Morning Meanderings…. Feeling Pretty Darn Good

MM1

Good morning Muggles and Magical folk!  Happy Tuesday to you all!  I feel really good.  The pain in my back is gone, I don’t feel sick any more and I have a BIG agenda today filled with good things!

This morning I have an exciting meeting for a possible (more than likely) venue change for Wine and Words 2015.  This is a big stinkin’ deal as it will take our event from a Brainerd Minnesota event to a Lakes Area event.  (If you are unfamiliar with Wine and Words this is the project our Friends Of The Library started 2 years ago and it has been very successful even winning best new Friends Project in Minnesota this year!)  If we successfully make this connection it will be huge for us – more room to grow!

Then I am preparing a meal this afternoon for a family that has a loved one in the hospital.

Then…. *drum roll*…

Bookies Book Club has their Christmas Party tonight at 6:00 pm!  We will be discussing Big Little Lies, eating goodies that we all bring, doing our annual gift exchange, and deciding what book to purchase for our library’s book in the bag program.  It is going to be so much fun!!!

I think… this calls for a little Black Eyed Pea’s combined with a Flash Mob (Flash Mob – on the bucket list… we really should plan one for BEA this coming year!)

Morning Meanderings… The Books and Book Club

MM1

Good morning and happy happy Sunday!  I am happy to be snug in a blanket this morning with COFFEE CUP close by.  It is cool outside this morning but we have had little snow in Central Minnesota and in most areas of our yard I can still see grass.  For the record – that’s ok by me.  🙂

On the book front what came in for me this week was minimal:

King Dork is in audio and I am excited to get to it hopefully this week!

Book Club is also this week.  It is our annual Christmas Party and I am so excited for it!  We are reading Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty (LOVED IT!) and our books came in from Harper Collins Book Club Girls Group:

1dd

Belong To Me is our pick we will be reading first and then Walking The Bible will be for January, we will figure out the details at book club.

Last night was the Twitter Party for the Harry Potter Readalong.  Those who joined in watched Chamber Of Secrets together.  It was fun to watch the movie while I have recently been reading the book as well.. they were spot on for their lines from the book to the movie!

That is what is new.  My day should be fairly quiet.  Some cleaning and some reading and my cousins baby shower.

Anything happening with your Sunday?

Morning Meanderings… Last One. Really. I mean it.

MM1

Good morning.  It has been quite the week.  I woke up Wednesday morning and the pain that I have had in my right arm and fingers had moved into my upper back, shoulder and neck.  Super annoying and has thrown off my week.  It hurts to sit and rest my back on anything.  It hurts to roll over in bed.  Lets just say it hurts.  I have been taking Advil like they are candy and seeing a chiropractor.  I am not used to things like this not fixing themselves quickly so still being in pain on Saturday is yup…. annoying.  I am trying to do everything I have planned for this week and keep up on appearances but once I am home I am sooooo glad.  🙂

Anyhoo… that is not what I meant to write about.

I did mention that I would be hosting three challenges for 2015.  Two of them I have posted…  The 2015 Library Challenge (so much interest in this one – I am soooo excited!) and The First Book Of The Year Challenge (not really a 2015 challenge, it is only a one day commitment but a fun one!).  Now, the one I have hosted for many years now…

Where Are You Reading

The 2015 WHERE Are You Reading Challenge.  I just love this years meme pic!  So it is ready to go and the basics of this one are to keep track of where your books are set at… if the book is about a family in Idaho, then that is an Idaho book.  If it is non fiction and about the lakes of Minnesota it is a Minnesota book.. if you can not find anywhere the book connects too, I use where the author is living… anyhoo… check it out.  It is a fun one to see at the end of the year all the places you have traveled through books.

A couple quick reminders – Today is the day that we should start talking about our Harry Potter readalong book, The Chamber Of Secrets.  Those participating can hook up their posts here.  Interested in signing up, do that here

AND tonight on Twitter, 8 pm central time, Tanya from Dogeared Copy is hosting the movie Twitter party where we all hunker down with our popcorn and Every Flavored Beans and enjoy the movie together.  I have a Christmas party to attend but hope to be home in time to participate in the movie as well.

Morning Meanderings… Chatting It Up With David Baldacci

MM1

SO last night, myself as well as a handful of other reviewers had the awesome opportunity of chatting with David Baldacci, author of MANY books such as Wish You Well, Absolute Power (his first), The Camel Club and most recently – The Finisher (his first ya) and The Escape.

I don’t want to say too much as I will be writing up a bigger post on the details of the discussion but had to share the SSQQQUUEEEE fan girl moment.  🙂

In other news…. two challenges are up for 2015 (one more to post soon)  Use the links below to read up and learn about them and please feel free to join in the fun!

Morning Meanderings… Challenge Accepted

MM1

I couldn’t sleep.

I tossed and turned… 3:20 a.m., 3:30 a.m., 3:33 a.m., 3:38 a.m…. 3:58 a.m. I got up.  Cleaned my kitchen counter.  Made a cup of coffee… played on line Scrabble.  For now.. I am AWAKE.

7a

Yesterday I posted a 2015 Challenge for using your local Libraries.  I posted it as much for me as for anyone else who wants to join me by spending a little more time there in 2015 and walking out with good books or audio or even movies.

2aaaaaaa2015

Fair warning – two more challenges for 2015 are being posted this week.  The one, an easy one, and a favorite of mine is not even really a challenge… it is the First Book Of The Year Meme/Challenge/ What have you.  It is a one day commitment on January 1st to post about the book that is bringing you into the new year.  I do love this one, it is something I have done long before I blogged – picking out the book that would kick off the New Year.  Be sure to check that one out.  I will post it today.

Where Are You Reading

The other, is the one I have hosted for years – WHERE Are You Reading Challenge… the challenge where you capture where your books are set at and keep a running list or use Google Maps or both.  It really is fun to see where you have read in a years time.  This past year that one got away from me but I will try again.  Watch for that one to be posted in the next few days.

SO that’s me…. I have a bit of shopping to do, you know.. when it is REAL morning, and I am into a really good read, Finding Jake, so hope to finish that today as well.

How is your Wednesday shaping up for you?  Any books or fun happenings to discuss?

Morning Meanderings: I Remember When Our Coffee Pot Was Just For Company.

MM1

Coffee.

This morning as I was getting my brew on I had a recollection of when I was first married.  Al and I had a coffee pot (probably was a gift…) but we never used it.  I remember it would sit on the counter and I would make coffee only if my parents were coming over or some other form of adult.  That was it, we were too young and too hip for coffee.

It makes me wonder….  did we drink anything in the morning?

I don’t recall when I crossed over.  Perhaps some chilly day when I was out of cocoa… who knows…  but now, it gets me out of bed just thinking about it.  I will be lying there wondering if I should get up and then recall that getting up means coffee so I pop right up.  Al is the same way.

1a

It’s funny to think that today’s generation will more than likely not have this coffee recollection as I am.  For them, growing up with coffee is a staple. Some have probably started their coffee habits before they could drive. With coffee shops and drinks that represent shakes more than coffee, they are all lining up to get their caffeine on.

Ok… so no idea where that all came from other than the fact I am up.  It is Tuesday.  I have my coffee and I am about to go write.

Caffeine on people.  Carpe cup.

Morning Meanderings… It Got Me.

MM1

So annoying.

Yesterday later afternoon I started to feel that tingle that goes through your body and up the back of my neck.  I started to feel chilled and my arms felt weak…

yup.  Apparently I am sick. 😦

I do not get sick often but when I do it tends to knock me on my butt.  Thankfully I am running a fever and have chills but no throwing up or the other horrible things at this time.  I did however decide it was better to stay home this morning than do church and run the errands I had planned afterwards.  Things will have to wait.

On a happier note – I did receive a few exciting books in the mail this week:

2

Dark Rooms by Lili Anolik  (ooh this looks like a good spooky read!)

Finding Jake by Bryan Reardon (I have been wanting to read this one since I first seen it!)

The Kind Worth Killing by Peter Swanson (ooh another dark one!)

FOXCATCHER by Mark Schultz (I am so interested in reading this!)

4 books I am excited about!

SO today I think will be bed rest and reading or audio if my eyes are tired.  I have some things to prep yet for tomorrows open house at the Library – nothing crazy but if I am there or not it is stuff that needs to be ready.

What are you doing with your Sunday?

Morning Meanderings… Library Happenings

MM1

Good morning!  Post Thanksgiving and 2 days.  I suppose some of you are still entertaining family or out-of-town yourself for the weekend.  I am at home, Justin left for the cities yesterday afternoon and all has been put away.  Life is back to normal.

Today for Saturday Snapshot I wanted to post what has been happening at our library lately.  Last Sunday we went in and decorated for the holidays:

PicMonkey Collage

On Wednesday I went in and changed out the window to Christmas or Winter reading:

16

Today I am going in to make the book tree for our open house.  The Open House is Monday.  This is an annual event where we invite in the public for refreshments and to see the decorations for the library.  We will have Friends Of The Library information set up, cookies and punch, as well as a drawing for Christmas turkeys.

It should be a good time. 🙂

Does your library have a Friends Group?  Are you a part of it?  It is a lot of fun and connects you to other book lovers.

Morning Meanderings…. Recovery

MM1

Good morning!  How ya all doing?  Any turkey hangovers out there?  Shopping hangovers?

I am good, I did not eat a lot of turkey and for the first time since I can remember we decided to vote “NO” on the going out and battling the crowds for a few reasons:

1.  It is Minnesota and it is COLD

2.  We were not in the mindset to deal with pushy people and long lines

3.  There was really nothing any of thought we had to have.

I am so glad we did not go.  The looking through the sale ads and planning our attack takes so much time out of our just hanging together.  It is usually Justin and I who are crazy enough to go, leaving Brad who goes home and Al who watches a little tv and then goes to bed.

This year, we hung out, played board games, watched movies, and stayed warm.

The one game we played that I LOVE is Book Lovers Scrabble.

http%3A%2F%2Fir.4sqi.net%2Fimg%2Fgeneral%2F240x240%2F15628241_9zQvOZWmL8hDOxEZ6g_Pirp9u54mfol5jmPGYc3kVj0

My friend Gail found me this little treasure and it is a lot of fun.  It is basically Scrabble but you can earn bonus points for literary words (you know like “novel, writing, book) and you can earn extra points for using words in a book title and even an author’s name as long as you can recite the full title of the book you are referring to or the author’s name.

http%3A%2F%2Fir.4sqi.net%2Fimg%2Fgeneral%2F1000x540%2F6krLZDEDZi1cKPZbsAuRQMLWQm4fmnZllWiU6Tafcjg

Another fun part of this game are the cards called Plot Twists.  Each player has three at all time and they can be played one per turn.  As you can see they are super fun and game changing. I had one that said that all players must put their current titles in the middle and we all re-pick from those.  My son had one that said you could ask the other players if they had a letter you needed (such as an “A”) and if we had it we had to give it to them.

In the end…  Justin won.

PicMonkey Collage

Justin (far right) looks like he is too good for us “losers”… Brad (far left) was about 100 points behind him and I was more than that.  He smoked us!  🙂

After board games we watched, Blended, 22 Jump Street, Maleficent, and just because I like to throw a little educational movie into our holidays (ask Justin – one year we watched The Boy In The Striped Pajamas for Easter); we watched And The Band Played On.

Today, Justin and I will be making Pumpkin Rolls before he needs to head back home to St. Paul.  Al and Brad are working.  Once the house is quiet today I will be back into a good read.  It is starting to snow and I have no where I need to go.  A perfect plan.

As for now… my home is quiet.  Al is already gone… Justin is still sleeping.  COFFEE CUP and I are at the kitchen table, plotting and planning what this weekend will look like.  🙂

What do the next few days look like for you?  Are they crazy busy?  Or nice and mellow?

Happy Thanksgiving From a Bookish Home In Minnesota

MM1

Good morning!  Anyone else up at a crazy hour prepping food?  I really did not have a lot to do.  The turkey will go in about 30 minutes from now to be ready around noon and the rest of it I staged…. black olives by their bowl, stuffing by the pan, beans by the crock pot…  pies in the garage staying nice and cool.

Today my two sons will come over and we will spend the day munching on good food, playing board games and watching movies.  Our day usually goes something like a nice big dinner at noonish with all the fixings…  then Al and Brad will usually find the football game on or some sport and Justin and I will play board games (we are the household gamers), occasionally the other two will join in.  At some point we will all wind up in the family room watching movies…  Al will fall asleep in the recliner.  I make a second turkey for the boys to share and they each get half as well as pie and whatever else they wish to take.  Into the evening Brad will go home as he works early tomorrow.  Al will go to bed around 8 pm.  Justin and I will gather snacks and settle in for movies… some how we usually wind up watching at least one Harry Potter movie.  I will start to pass out on the couch but will not want t let Justin know I am tired so I fake that I am keeping up with the movie.  It doesn’t fool him.  Eventually I will give up and go to bed.

In the past years we have done the crazy Thursday evening and even Friday shopping but I have decided not to do that this year.  There is nothing I need and going out in the cold and battling long lines and pushy people just does not appeal to me this year. 🙂

On Friday – I think we will make pumpkin rolls in the morning and maybe take in a movie in the afternoon.

It’s an easy holiday with the four of us and I love our crazy simple traditions.

I am thankful for way more than I can ever mention but I will try….  I am thankful for my husband Al, a hardworking guy who amazes me with all he accomplishes.  I am thankful for Brad being back in Brainerd for over a year now that he is out of the Navy and working for our company.  It is awesome having him close by.  I am thankful for Justin and his willingness to be just as crazy as I am.  Now that he has graduated from College I am excited to see what he does next.  I am thankful for my friends and my family… 2014 has not been the year I had hoped it would be and I am still figuring it out but I feel loved and supported.  I am thankful for God’s blessing in my life. I am thankful for my health and the ability to do the crazy things I choose to do.  I am thankful for our home, our business, our employees. I am thankful for Sammy and Bailey and Mater… crazy dogs that keep me hopping.  I am thankful for connections I have made on line and in person through this strange little corner of the web called Book Journey… writing here for the past 5 years has blessed me in ways I would have never imagined!

Update:  As Angie (first comment below) mentioned – I forgot our book club…lol.  I knew I would forget important stuff! Bookies now on its 14th year is a huge part of me.  This group of girls have become great friends and through our book discussions we have talked about so many things that honestly – a lot of people never talk about.  I am so thankful for each and every one of them.

Also – my experience this year working with the bees has been really cool.  I have learned so much and love that I know these crazy things about bees now!

I hope wherever you are and if you celebrate Thanksgiving you have a wonderful day!  Stay safe… stay warm!
