Morning Meanderings…

Poor Jennifer.  Jennifer is my early morning workout friend.  We have been meeting at the gym at 6:30 am several times a week.  Over the weekend on my way to the gym I was thinking how every morning we meet our conversation always turns to books.  Mainly because I turn it there.  Sure we will discuss whats going on in our lives, and work, and then inevitably I will bring up something I just read or am currently reading.  Jennifer is a reader, but not at the capacity that I do and not all the genre’s I do.

I was thinking how funny it was that I will chat away about books while we are on the treadmills.  Really…. she cant get away from me… it is like having a captive audience.  I think also with the level of passion that I talk about the books it is hard to shut me off and turn the direction around.  I told her I was going to write about her this morning and she thought that was pretty funny.

Do you tend to turn conversations to books when you are hanging out with others?  Do you have friends who share your passion for books?

Morning Meanderings…

Morning!  Tonight is my first book club meeting of the year,  We will be reviewing The Heretics Daughter and unveiling our best book club read of 2009.  I will reveal that information tomorrow to all of you as well as who they chose for their favorite male and female characters from our 2009 reads and yes, even the book they voted the worst book club read of 2009.  I cant wait to share the winning book….but I can’t reveal to all of you… before I share it with all of them.

I have tons to do yet today to get ready so I will be in the office early.  I have a report to prepare as well as the layout for 2010… and yeah… I have procrastinated on getting this done so this is my own bad.  🙂

Are you in a book club?  If so, do you have any fun things that you do that you could share?  If not, why not?

Morning Meanderings…

What a really good weekend.  I put my best time management forward and was able to not only accomplish household opportunities (laundry, dishes, dusting, sweeping…. ) and a housewarming party Saturday evening, but I was able to put in a lot of effort into the Bloggiesta.  The result is a cleaner and updated blog that stands before you today.

A moment of silence please….

Ok!  One of my favorite things to do during the Bloggiesta is to visit all the participants.  This is not a requirement or even a suggestion… this is just my own personal thing.  Like an unofficial cheerleader who donned the outfit from someone’s unattended locker and off I went!  I just love to see the blog layouts and what every one else is working on for the challenge.  Granted it added to my own list… but that’s ok.

So as I leave you this morning while Coffee Cup and I head off to the gym (groan!) I ask how your weekend went.  Anything fun?  Were you part of the Bloggiesta?

Morning Meanderings

It is currently 19 below zero here.  As I type, I am warming up my Durango because I am due at the gym in 30 minutes to workout with a friend.  Did I mention it was 19 below?  I am wondering if I need this friend…..  LOL..  (just kidding)  (I think)

Day 2 of the Bloggiesta.  Yesterday for me went pretty well.  I was able to visit a lot of blogs which I always enjoy.  It amazes me that even after the 7 months that I have been doing this and meeting others… I have not even scratched the surface of all the blogs that are out there.  And that’s just book blogs! After my return from the gym, I will get back into my to do list for the Bloggiesta.  Now I will spending time today on the housekeeping of my blog as well as well as looking into the mini challenges that I have not visited yet.

Later today I have my author chat with Becca Fitzpatrick – author of hush hush.  I am so excited to have her here at One Persons Journey Through A World of Books!  There will also be a giveaway or two posted so really should be an active blog day!

Stay warm everyone….. any big fun Saturday plans?

Morning Meanderings…

It has been three days since my last book review.  The start to the new year was going so well and then I just got busy.  Busy busy.  Last night I finally had a chance to cozy up with Coffee Cup and  finish a wonderful book that I will be sharing with you later today.

I am hopeful things will slow down a bit as tomorrow starts the Blogiesta and I am so ready to be involved in that again!  Also tomorrow I am thrilled to announce that I will be having an authors chat with the wonderful author of hush hush, Becca Fitzpatrick!  That’s right, Becca is going to swing on by One Persons Journey Through A World Of Books!

AND this weekend just promises to be fun…. and I really like fun!  Lots to come and a hint of a few giveaways coming up in the next few days that are just fun~  Did I mention I like fun?

Morning Meanderings

Good Morning!  I finally did it!  yesterday I went into our Library and I picked up a Library Card!  It was on my list of things to do this week and I needed one if I was going to do the Support your Library Challenge!  I was looking for a few other books for one of the challenges and they had to pull them in from other libraries.  I couldn’t leave empty handed so I did pick out one book:

Smoking cover right?  I agree.  And yes… it wasn’t until I came home that I discovered it was a sequel.  That’s ok… I reserved that one too.  🙂

Do you use your local library?  If so, what do you use it for (all your reading, certain genres…)

And if you do not… why not?

Morning Meanderings…

Good morning!  Another week is upon us … (I will pause here with my Coffee Cup to hear the universal groan of a Monday throughout the blogesphere)…. and the few optimists that are saying “yippy”!   Hello friends  🙂

This weekend I had the opportunity to see two movies at the theater.  Yes.  Two.  What an over achiever am I…LOL.  It was Friday afternoon when my hubby decided we should go and see Avatar.  I wasn’t sure it was a movie I wanted to see… the length was a down point for me, but Al is always so busy a chance to spend time together is very rarely turned down… so off we went.  Turns out – I really enjoyed the movie.  It was not at all “alienish” like I thought it was going to be… in fact I was really impressed with where the story went and it didn’t seen long at all.  (Sherlock Holmes on the other hand from Christmas Day seemed loooooonnnnnggggg…. but that’s a different story).

On Saturday afternoon my friend Wendy and I went to see Blind Side and this movie was beyond even my hopes.  It was fantastic.  I will probably go to it again if I can rope someone to go with me.  I will definitely own this one.   If you haven’t seen it I recommend that you take time to do so.  I cried no less than three times…. I think the first time was about 15 minutes into the movie.  SO GOOD.  Highly recommended.  I would say best movie I have seen this year (which is true) but since this is only January 4 that probably doesn’t hold much water.  😉

Seen any good movies lately or planning to see any of them that are coming out soon?

Morning Meanderings…

Happy New Year!

This morning I am enjoying a cup of Raspberry Creme Coffee (Cameron’s).  It really is good and a perfect way to start this day!  But actually – this is not the start of my day.  My day started about an hour ago when I stayed a little longer in bed this morning and finished the book that I wanted to be the first read of 2010…. really, time with an old friend… (more on that in the next post)

I am excited as this will be my first year of full blogging!  I have plans yet today to do some minor changes to my layout here… oh and please bear with me – in the excitement I will have two if not three book reviews posted today.  I also have the December comment winners to post as well as Blog Awards that I hope to also give out yet today.  I had several books I have been finishing up on and  today is mostly going to be dedicated to doing just that.  It is currently -7 below zero here in central Minnesota and while I need to make one run in little while here to Wal-Mart…. that will be it for my outdoor adventures today.

So share with me… whats your plans on this first day of the new year?  Are you seeing a movie?  Reading a book?  Doing something fun?

Morning Meanderings…

SO here we are … another year down.  For me this is a great time to look over the last 6 months of my blogging journey.  I started blogging (seriously book blogging) the first week of June 2009.  From that date on it has been a wonderful whirlwind of:

  • I have connected with people from all over the world.

  • been introduced to books I may not have ever encountered

  • Spoke with publishers and authors

  • fed my passion for writing

I have given a lot of thought how I would wrap up my year.  Do I post my favorite reads over the past year?  Make resolutions for 2010?  How about a bit of both…. walk with me down memory lane:

Dragon House will always hold special memories for me.  Not only was this a fantastic read, this was my first book sent directly from the author.

Pope Joan was another read that really was incredible.  Author Donna Woolfolk Cross is fantastic and she and I communicated back and forth for a few months while they were filming the movie for this book.   This was all new to me…. chatting with authors?

The Cinderella Society by Kay Cassidy was such a fun read.  It was great to participate on Kay’s 2.0 Blog and chat with ehr on Twitter as well.  This book is not available to the public yet but I have pom poms ready to go to cheer like crazy when it does.  YA look out in 2010!

The Help by Katherine Stockett is a great example of the power of book bloggers.  As I watched this book gather steam through the blogs I purchased it and never looked back from page one to the very end.  This book holds a high place in my 2009 reading favorites.

Jantsen’s Gift touched me deeply and author Pam Cope and I talked for over an hour on the phone as I interviewed her and shared our common interest in helping children all over the world.

Hunger Games and Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins were books I would have never dreamed I would have enjoyed…. I mean seriously…. fighting to the death?  Yet… I read them because of the wonderful bloggers I had come to trust and I LOVED these books.  I cant wait for book three!

The Book Thief caused me to really put a new author on my radar that was reason for applause.   A book told from the perspective of death….  if you havent read this – read it.

And this list is not by any means inclusive to everything I have read and loved this past year – just some that stick out in my mind as what I would say to someone who asked what book I would recommend.

As for resolutions for this blog…

  • I am excited to really take a close look at the challenges I will be doing this year and keep way better track then I did this past year.

  • There will be more author interviews

  • Word Shakers will get the kinks worked out and we will move ahead
  • I want to better at keeping track of the challenges I am in…. (I still have clean up to do on the ones I am completing – so behind!  (My challenge post should be up later today)

  • Pondering Moments will be a mid week meme that will stem from book related questions and/or topics….  I am hoping to get more involved in a weekly discussion as I really enjoy talking all things bookish.

Finally I want to thank all of you that stop in and read my thoughts on books, crazy life moments that I share over a cup of coffee, and the day to day support.  I so appreciate all of you.  This past 6 months for many of you I have went from knowing you by a blog name – to a first name….  and that is pretty awesome.

May you all have a wonderful and safe New Years Eve!

Morning Meanderings…

Good Morning!  It took two days but I am thrilled to say that I have my house back in order and I have book shelves!  YES!   I said it out loud and there was a happy dance.  Here they are the finished product and I am so glad to be clutter free!  🙂

(Seriously… this will be the last babbling about these shelves… after this post I will return to my regular scheduled Morning Meanderings)

Oh wow!  These are the first books I put up there…. congratulations to author Randy Alcorn who took up this corner!

Here is the other side of the room.  I love it…. its better than I even pictured it!

I still have space !  Yes!  The step in this picture belonged to my Great Grandmother.  I have had it in the basement for years but now I think I am going to paint it and maybe put some cool book quotes on the steps to use in this room.

One close up of the shelf in action.  🙂

Ok enough about the shelves….  what are you reading today?
