Morning Meanderings… I Fell Off The Blog Wagon

Whoa!  Where did I go?

That was an unplanned lapse in blog time this week.  On Monday I took out little dog Bailey to the vet to have a growth looked at.  It was pretty nasty and growing rapidly.  They scheduled surgery for him for Wednesday.  Then Tuesday I had the best of intentions of putting a review post up and just never got there.  A busy work day, then cooking and cleaning for my book club and finally crashing to bed around 10 pm.

When I woke up Wednesday morning it was already after 7 am, and I had to be to work at 8 am – and get the dog to the vet for his surgery.  I did not even open my laptop as I ran for the door.

After a ten-hour work day, followed immediately by 3 hours of volunteer time, I came home at 8:30 pm… wiped out again.  I knew this would be a crazy week … but wowza, I didn’t know it would take such a tole on me.

Bailey’s surgery went well and hubby brought him home around 4:30 pm.  I did not see him until I came home late, and then seen his “cone head” that he has to wear for the next two weeks while he heals.

Tonight after work Navy son (SSSQQQUUUEEE!!!!) and his best friend Andy are joining us for dinner.  We are having what I call “Honduras hotdish” as that is where I got the recipe.  It will be nice to hang out with them both – and I sooooo look forward to it.

This also puts me one day closer to the end of this busy week.  😀

Be sure to come by later today for my Bookies book club review of Henry’s Sisters.  Hint:  we had a little fire and burned something in honor of this book.  Funny thing is, this is not our first fire.  😛

Morning Meanderings… Todays Post Is Brought To You By The Letter “P”

Good morning and UGH – really???  How can one person feel so behind?  I had all of last week off you think I would be a rock star in reviews and posts… but no…. what happened?

Girls weekend Thursday – Saturday.  I was home on Sunday – I posted quite a bit actually but then Monday came….

I ran all day Monday from work to the vet to the printer to the gym to pick up pizza for a group meeting to home at 8 pm.  Then I worked on year in review papers for our Book Club meeting tonight and I did that until alomst 1:00 am.

SO here I am – watching the clock…. wishing I had written the review I wanted to last night (Ugh… why did I not write that review???) and needing to get to work early today as I have a huge week there too.

Good grief.

Today I work until 3, run to the grocery store to purchase items for Book Club tonight (my house) and to the bank.  Then home – clean, cook, prep notes…. Bookies here at 6:30 pm.

Basically I will not be back on line until 8:30 pm or so tonight.

GAH.  Did I say that yet?

GAH.  “P” is for pathetic.

I am looking forward to tonight… just wish I wasnt suddenly so bogged down with activity.

I did my check in this morning over at Team Kickin it – stop over… and say hi to I think… a saner version of me.

Morning Meanderings… Home! and Winners! Oh and more Giveaways!

Good morning!!! 😀

I am home from a crafting weekend with girlfriends up North… yes, farther North than I live.  It was a wonderful time!  We left Thursday afternoon, ate out Thursday night, then planted ourselves at the cabin and had wonderful food, watched movies, and worked with the Cricut.

While I did not make as many things as I did the last time we did this, I did have fun experimenting with etching cream.  You use the outline of the vinyl pieces, put it on glass… put the cream over it and it etched the glass… kind of cool.  I made these 4 glasses:

We celebrated Thanksgiving together as friends – so the wine was a perfect companion to our dinner.

I also made this:

We really had a great time.  😀

Now that I am home… I have a lot to catch up on!  I have reviews to write and hope to get caught up today.  I need to finish our year in review for book club on Tuesday.  AND last week I promised a week of giveaways and missed several days!  SO more giveaways coming up… AND winners to announce!

My winner of this book goes to #53:  Cindi!  Congrats Cindi  – I am sending you an email this morning to get your address to mail this book to you.  😀

My winner of this book goes to #7  Shannon of Extreme Reading And Writing! Shannon, I have emailed you for your address. Congrats!
Thanks everyone for entering and expect more giveaways this week – including one I think that will go up today with my review. 😀

How was everyones weekend?

Morning Meanderings… AND…. I’m Off!!!

Good Morning!

I am sitting here this morning surrounded by “to do’s”.  I took Bailey in already this morning to get a hair cut.  I pick him up about noon.

I have some groceries to get, a stop at the local craft store, phone calls to make, dinner to prep, movies to pick out, packing to do….

Why?

Girl’s weekend at our cabin!

We leave this afternoon… me +4 more.  We had such a great time in October with our Cricut weekend that we planned another one and now here it is.  Yes, I probably could have got some of this done earlier this week…. no, I did not really prep at all until this moment.  😛

And that’s all ok… it will come together fast… I don’t mess around when I am shopping.  It is not something I really enjoy so I am more of this in and out girl.

Asus (laptop) will not be joining me.

We have no internet there, and the girls tend to frown on me when I bring it…. so….. here it will stay.  I am however bringing along The Future Of Us by Jay Asher, and possibly Snookie (Nook) and for sure Milton Podricker (IPOD).  A girl cant leave everything behind…. 😀

I worked out twice yesterday, once with my friend Wendy for Group Power (weight lifting) and later with my friend Heidi (elliptical).  I had double work outs the last two days – but now I will not have any until Sunday.

Morning Meanderings… Book Cravings

Good morning!

*Takes a big drink of COFFEE*

Day three of my vacation is here and it feels like it is going so FAST!  I guess it is, considering tomorrow afternoon I leave for the cabin with 4 of my friends for a Cricut weekend and will be back Saturday evening and then Sunday Navy son will be home for a couple weeks!

Each week as I travel the blogesphere I am bound to stumble across some books and reviews that really speak to me and put a book on my radar. This week has certainly been no exception.

Have you seen this book around?  I have a couple of times and it draws me in and then I lose track of it, but Shan from Curled Up With A Good Book and Cup Of Tea wrote a review that made me pop this one on to the wish list!

Lauren Oliver is an incredible writer and this is another book I hear low and positive murmurs about – yet this week I read a review of Liesl and Po at April Good Books and Wine and knew I had to get my hands on a copy!

I can always count on Nise at Under The Boardwalk to give out good audio recommendations.  She does that here with Iron House.  This is a book I have considered for a while now but never really committed one way or the other.  Nise’s description of the narration of Scott Sowers becoming a favorite of hers sealed this deal!  😀

Yesterday I had a wonderful day of writing, a great work out (see below) and ended my day finishing up our book club book for next week, Henry’s Sisters by Cathy Lamb.  This is going to be an incredible review!

Work out update… Monday I had went into the YMCA and used the treadmill and elliptical for 661 calories.  Yesterday I went in again and as I was finishing up, a friend came in and I stayed while she worked out too..another 1,500 calories. 2161 now for the week/year!

Also – Mari, at Bookwork with a View challenged me to a push up challenge… 100 a day.  I agreed and managed 40 yesterday.  LOL… I meant to finish them, but honestly forgot… 😛  Stop over to the new Team Kickin It blog to see todays post… Wednesdays are going to be healthy recipe days and I have a yummy one for you!  😀

Morning Meanderings… an exciting Blog Unveiling!

Good morning!  Day two of vacation!  I drank nothing but tea for the past few days…no idea why – but the coffee is back on today. 😀

Yesterday I spent much of my time writing and prepping my notes.  It was a productive day.  When I took a break in the afternoon I spent my time on a little project I have been tossing around in my head….

Because I want to work out more intentionally going into (and throughout) 2012 and BECAUSE there are a group of you who feel the same way I present…

Team Kickin It

(Insert SQQQUUUEEEEEE here) I am actually a little excited about the above adventure so please allow me a little gushing here. 😛  Team Kickin It will be a blog for the work out side of those who care to venture in.  I hope to create a space where we can share tips, ideas, healthy recipes, goals, etc… your input and ideas are welcome.

No matter what is going on in my life I want to create a healthy balance between that and taking care of me.  Feel free to join me by going to Team Kickin It and clicking on the follow by email button.  This will ensure you receive an email every time the site is updated.

Oh and currently… there are no comments as this is the big unveiling, so I hope a few of you can pop in over there and help me welcome in new habits to 2012!!!  😀

In bookish news… I have a review coming later of Folly Beach by Dorothea Benton Frank.  I am working in a bakery within the pages on Henry’s Sisters…. I am enjoying an awkward invite to Thanksgiving dinner in Boo, arguing with Patch in Crescendo, and searching the train compartment by compartment in the delightful audio of Murder On The Orient Express.

I hope your day starts off wonderfully and continues to gain momentum from there 😀

Morning Meanderings… Welcome to 2012 with a Giveaway!

Good morning and Happy New Year!!!

I hope everyone had a happy eve.  Hubby and I went out to dinner and then hung out with some friends for awhile.  We were home way before the clock struck midnight.  Next year maybe I will plan something here at our house, board games and movies…. 😀

I have so been looking forward to this day…. I dont remember being this excited for a new year in a long time, but I am ready to start 2012 goals, 2012 books….. 2012.  😀

I have some blog changes I plan to make in the next few weeks here, I am bringing back the commenter contest now through May (maybe longer – we will see) that was for the top commenter of each month received a $20 Amazon gift card – and two random commenters receive books.

The big announcement for today is what book is going to be the one I am reading first for 2012…. well, my review will hopefully be up today as per tradition….

the book is:

I seen this book on many best of the best lists for 2011 so here it is.  I am currently reading and enjoying it.  I am on page 81 this morning so I have a LOT of reading to do 😀  YAY for New Years Day!  Nothing in the plan today except reading and relaxing 🙂

To celebrate this first week of 2012 I am going to be reading several books I have been waiting to read… wishing to read.  I will also be having a giveaway a day to celebrate because I am in that kind of mood :)Stop in each morning to see what it will be…. 😀  You will have all week to sign up for each giveaway – On Sunday the 7th I will announce all seven days of winners.  😀

This morning the giveaway is for a copy of:

When Nina Revskaya puts her remarkable jewelry collection up for auction, the former Bolshoi Ballet star finds herself overwhelmed by memories of her homeland, and of the events, both glorious and heartbreaking, that changed her life half a century earlier. It was in Russia that she discovered the magic of dance and fell in love, and where, faced with Stalinist aggression, a terrible discovery incited a deadly act of betrayal—and an ingenious escape to the West.

Nina has kept her secrets for half a lifetime. But now Drew Brooks, an inquisitive associate at a Boston auction house, and Grigori Solodin, a professor who believes Nina’s jewels hold the key to unlocking his past, begin to unravel her story—setting in motion a series of revelations that will have life-altering consequences for them all.

For a chance to win this book – leave a comment here letting me know what your first book of 2012 is going to be.  😀

Have an awesome day everyone!

Morning Meanderings.. The Countdown is ON!

Good Morning!  How is everyone doing this last day of 2011?

I stayed up WAY too late… I think I went to bed about 1:30 a.m.  I have been reading our January book club pick, Henry’s Sisters… and honestly – I can’t seem to put it down!  I am really excited for this review!

BUT – put it down I must because it is tradition around here that the first book of the year is a big deal – and every January 1 I finish a book I have been planning and hope it is wonderful to kick off the New Year!  (That book will be revealed tomorrow)

In the meantime, I thought I would post a few of our pics from last weekend for Alyce’s Saturday Snapshot meme.

One of my gifts - this sign says FRIENDS. I love it!

Al (hubby) opening up the boots I picked out for him

Justin opening his "large" gift. The boys always get several smaller priced gifts and then one larger one.

Justin (College Son) loves his new KINDLE!

Brad, (Navy Son) will be here this next weekend (WWWOOOOO HOOOOO!!!) for a couple of weeks.  Our little Christmas tree will remain up so we can do Christmas with him once he gets here… we are thinking maybe next Sunday and hopefully Justin can come back for this too 🙂

One more picture…

Yesterday was our first real snow accumulation of the season. When I was leaving our driveway I thought the tracks looked like two hearts. I like that.

I will probably have three posts today… I need to put up my WHERE Are You Reading map finals for 2011 and I have so many reviews piling up due to my posting about other things… like challenges, and recaps, and “best of’s”…. 😛

Morning Meanderings… Its Time For The Challenges

Good morning!  😀

Sipping Earl Grey this morning… not sure why, but craved it over the sharpness of coffee today. 😀

I am staring at the bottom right corner of Asus (Laptop) at the date.  12/30/11.

Really?  😯

I had such big plans for finishing out the year… books to complete, reviews to write, challenge recaps, plans for 2012, book and audio counts, wrap up of 2011 challenges and enter the new…. and here I am… December 30th… and so much to do.  😀

On the bright side, I have all of next week off which will be a great catch up time in many life things.  That will be helpful 😀

This morning I am going to share what Challenges I will be participating in for 2012.  Why do challenges?  They are fun and stretch you in your reading experience.  They are also a great way to connect with other challenge participants and meet like minded readers.

Like I could pass on this one!  😛  There are four levels to this challenge:

  • Flirting-Listen to 6 Audio Books
  • Going Steady- Listen to 12 Audio Books
  • Lover- Listen to 25 Audio Books
  • Married-Listen to +++  Audio Books

I will be going for Married level.  It sounds like there will be occasional audio giveaways (SSSQQUUUEEE!!!)

The WHERE Are You Reading Challenge was so much fun last year that I will be hosting it again.  I loved watching my map fill up – reading in all the states… well, not all of them… 😀

YAY!  I need this one.  My hubby bought me the NOOK E Reader last Christmas… as in a year ago Christmas.  I had read one book on it… which, he pointed out.  😯  SO I am trying to intentionally put more time in on the NOOK.

Levels:

  1. Floppy disk – 5 ebooks
  2. CD – 10 ebooks
  3. DVD – 25 ebooks
  4. Memory stick – 50 ebooks
  5. Hard drive – 75 ebooks
  6. Server – 100 ebooks
  7. Human brain – 150 ebooks

I am aiming for the CD level.

They are creepy and they’re spooky…. oh, ok.. not all of them!  This is a fairly new genre for me and I am LOVING it!  I am hosting this challenge hoping it will get others to dabble in it as well. 😀

Levels:

1-3 Dytstopia Books read in 2012:  beginner

4-6 Dystopia Books read in 2012:  Intermediate Post World Trainee

7-10 Dystopia Books read in 2012:  Leader of Your District

11+ Dystopia Books read in 2012:  SURVIVOR!

I am going for SURVIVOR!

I am super excited about this one!  I was just thinking of how cool a challenge would be on blogger favorite reads and then…. I found one!  Reading with Tequila has this AMAZING list of book which will be great motivation for me to read some of the greats!

The Levels:

Level II – Read 10 books
Level III – Read 15 books

All of these books are in house except #6 and #7.

This one is more of a personal challenge that I am creating that anyone can hop on board with…. I am still working out the details on this but have an idea brewing… if you are interested in knowing more – click on the challenge pic and leave a comment on the original post.  I will make sure you are notified when I reveal the idea.  😀

That’s it… the only other one I would like to be a part of is a Library Challenge but have not seen one yet although I have been told there is one out there.

How about you… up to any bookish challenges for 2012?

Morning Meanderings… CONFESS IT! Where Are They???

Good morning!

*YAWN!*

Had a pretty full day yesterday, but a good one too… work, hanging out a bit with College son before he heads back to Mankato, went to the gym, had a missions meeting, and dragged myself home to read a bit.  Today I have a full work day as I am off from work after today until the 9th of January.  I rarely take time off just for the sake of doing it, but I need to get some writing done, and then mid January I will go to full-time while our office manager has her baby.

As I was flipping through my year in review recap, I seen a couple posts I had early 2011 that were kind of fun and I think worth repeating.  One was the “Where are they post?”

last year i did a post where you had to say where your books were and how many… this was for us to share the number of books that are lying around our homes in places other than boxes or shelves… for instance here is what I seem to have going on as I do a quick count:

kitchen table:  8 books

kitchen counters:  2 books

upstairs living room recliner:  4 books

front room by rocking chair:  1 book

downstairs family room recliner:  3 books

bedside table:  2 books

decorative hall table:  1 book

Antique buffet table in living room:  12 books

GAH!  I think that about does it.  That is all the books I have that are not in the reading room on the shelves, or in boxes from book sales.

How about you?  Does your home show you are a reader?  😀
