What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.
I love being a part of this and I hope you do too! As part of this weekly meme I love to encourage you all to go and visit the others participating in this meme. I offer a weekly contest for those who visit 10 or more of the Monday Meme participants and leave a comment. This week went by so fast! On the bright side I did finish up a few reads I had going and have a couple more on the brink of being finished too!
Normally this is where I would recap post by post what went on here last week, but I am not going to do that tonight. Instead, as I am putting this post together from my hotel room in New York, I am going to recap my first day here:
- Reagan (Miss Remmers Reviews) and I arrived in New York at 10:45 am after catching our 6 am flight out of Minneapolis (up at 3 am….. GROGGY)
- Upon arriving at our hotel we discovered we could not check in until around 3 pm, they allowed up to leave our luggage and we took the streets.
- First lesson: If you need to use a restroom – do not wait until the last minute. We went into three different Star Bucks that all has a suspiciously familiar sign – “Sorry Temporarily out of order.”. Yes three different Star Bucks! We tried a market place, Right Aid, two Subways, Walgreens…. they were either out of order or they said they did not have one. By this time – we are having a code orange level restroom emergency. Finally, FINALLY – we hound a Star busks that had a working restroom.
- Second Lesson: When cruising by foot down the streets of New York, occasionally look up and see what street you are on. You know… just once in a while. After walking for many blocks we found Central Park which was AMAZING. After exploring it a bit, we could not find the road we had came down to get to the park and wound up walking 40 blocks out of our way. No exaggeration. Cardio for the day? Check.
- Aha moment. New York hotels are not like Minnesota hotels. I was so excited for this hotel room and once inside and seeing the tiny lobby I became a bit nervous. The small elevator added to my level of anxiety and once to our floor and seeing the narrow hallways, I was nervous to put my key into the door…… yep. One double room – tiny. Space in New York is a premium.
- After a nap and a bit of reading I felt myself again and we walked around Times Square taking in the sights (watch for pictures popping up all week on the Morning Meanderings posts!)
- Joining us at 8:30 this evening was Esme from Chocolates and Croissants who will be a roomy for the week. We all went out to dinner at Ruby Tuesday – and had amazing salads, YUM!
- Now we are all having a Norman Rockwell meets Jane Austen moment as we are all in our room jammy blogging.
What’s The Special Brew Of The Week?
So glad you asked! I am only going to list a couple going on here this week because – well, I am at BEA and who knows how much reading (or lack there of) I will get done! However – there will be reviews each day. I have many to catch up on.
Currently reading: The Opposite of Me by Sarah Pekkanen (and LOVING IT!!!)
Just finished : Kite Runner on audio and prep yourself for an emotionally charged review! 🙂
Next Up: Annie Freeman’s Fabulous Traveling Funeral by Kris Radish This is our book club read for June.
I am excited to see what you are reading this week and plan on popping in as I can. Please link to the Linky:
Have a great time in NYC!!
Can’t wait for the 411 and pictures!!
Thanks Vicki – a day of exploring is the plan 🙂
Sounds wonderful out there! And by the way if you have not seen the movie The Kite Runner, it is worth it even after reading the book. And it is very emotionally charged!
Jill, I have the movie but was waiting until I was done witht he book. I am going to watch it when I get home 🙂
So exciting! I love it…make sure to look at street signs or end up walking like 40 blocks, yikes! Good thing you had great shoes for BEA. Neat too that you get to hang out with Miss Remmers!
I can’t wait to see all your fun pics and reports on the exciting news from BEA, it should be great!
LOL The1stdaughter, thats what makes the trip right? The fun stories! 😀
Oh, I am jazzed for you! Hey, that restroom situation sounds crazy! In California coastal towns, like Santa Cruz, most stores won’t let you use the restrooms because of the homeless population. They’re afraid of having “campers.”
I’ll be looking forward to your photos.
Laurel – no coffee before I go exploring I guess… LOL
I thought the bathrooms might be about all the people who (like me) just needed them and not necessarily a patron of their business. Although towards the end I was ready to make a deal! 😀
So jealous. Sigh. Safe exploits WITH sign reading!
Thanks Reading Contess!
What an exciting time you’re having ! Maybe more fun reading about it than suffering the sore feet and lack of restrooms. 🙂
LOL Cat, it made for a story anyway 🙂
Looks like you are having quite the adventure in New York. I hope you enjoy BEA!
I look forward to hearing all about your experience at the conference. Have a great time!
Thanks Christina – the adventures begin later this afternoon at Strand bookstore 🙂
I agree with you on the space is a premium in NYC bit. I’m trying to book an apt for my bro who is coming to NY for his Masters, and I’m already tired of hunting!
Have FUN! Looking forward to your updates!
Aths, I was really surprised….. tiniest hotel room – ever! Oh well, this is all a learning experience!
I too have had my share of restroom woes!

Share the story gautami tripathy! 🙂
Ooooh, how exciting that you’ll be at BEA! I wanted to go, I just wish I lived closer! Have a great time 🙂
My week:

It was about 5 hours of travel Crystal but we are here – I slept well 🙂
Enjoy your time ate BEA and BCC, I wish I was there. I am thrilled to have won and I did send an email.
Yay Jennifer! I hope someday you can come – it would be wonderful to meet you!
Congrats on the win 🙂
Sounds like your trip is starting out well. Have Fun!
Thanks Zia! So far it has been an adventure! 😀
Have fun at the BEA!
Thanks you amcatoir!
Last week of school made it impossible for me to come to the New York for this great event. I know you will have a great time.
Thanks Jan! I hope to have an amazing time 🙂
Oh poor you, how desperate you must have when you couldn’t find a restroom. In the Netherlands, we have them at every cafe and restaurant and hardly ever out of order, but you do have to sit down and order something before you can go! 🙂
The hotel, reminds me of London: we were quite central, but it was such a crappy room and the breakfast was lousy! But still: we were in LONDON!!!! (this was years ago, as a student).
Enjoy your days in NY!!
leeswammes I would have gladly ordered! 🙂 I was dancing in the streets – literally! LOL
Enjoy your trip! I don’t know how any review of The Kite Runner could avoid being emotionally charged. Have you read A Thousand Splendid Suns?
Jen it was so amazing. I am coming at the audio angle of this read and by the time I am done I am hopeful that everyone will plan on listening to this amazing book – even if you have read it.
Yup. Enjoy your days in NY !!
Book Reviews
Thanks Booklover!
You’ve only been there a day and already adventures abound!! Enjoy and I can’t wait to see the photos and read the stories!!
Yup Staci – I am always finding my way to adventures – LOL
Have fun at BEA!
It’s Monday! What I am reading is ere and my 300 Follower Giveaway is here.
Happy reading!
xx,

Thanks E J – I will pop over and congrats on the 300!!!
ooo Thanks for the tip. I will remember that Wednesday. When I have to go, I have to go, lol. I am looking so forward to seeing all of your pics and hearing about your experiences. Have a great time and BE SAFE!
Yes Bobbie – take my advice – may I save someone else the pain…LOL 🙂
Have a fantastic time!
Thanks Nise – we really are 🙂
Hope you are having a wonderful time at BEA.

Thanks Pixie 🙂
Sheila,
I love McLinky. It makes me want to visit more blogs. I’m not leaving my link. Because my name is on Mclinky. Is that the right way????
Yup Tea – you got it! 😀 Linky does rock!!!
NYC sounds like fun…enjoy yourself!!
My reading for last week wasn’t that great 😦 it is posted here
CMash
Thanks Cheryl 🙂
Have a wonderful time at BEA! I just left NYC last night – darn timing! My husband hasn’t been home in weeks so it’s hard to say I want to attend BEA while you are home for the last time. HA
Oh bummer Mari! Maybe next year 🙂
Sounds like so much fun, Sheila! I love NY and would love to go to BEA some day. And hanging out with other bloggers would be awesome!
But promise me one thing…no more eating at chain restaurants! You’re in one of the greatest restaurant cities in the whole world! So much amazing food there. Try Rosa Mexicano for Mexican (several locations and they custom-make homemade guacamole at your table) or Victor’s Cafe (W. 57th St) for amazing Cuban food. My Mom and I go to NYC to see a Broadway show each year and we often find amazing meals in little restaurants we just stumble onto – never had a bad meal there! Two of our favorite finds: Blue Chili on W. 51st St (across from the theater where Wicked is playing) – Thai and sushi – and Tout Va Bien, also on W 51st St, a tiny little French bistro with delicious food.
Have fun!!! Can’t wait to hear all about it –
Sue
Your comment cracked me up Sue. I am blaming Reagan – she picked the restaurant – LOL
We will do better 🙂
The salad bar was amazing!
Right now I am reading Burned by P.C. Cast and Kristen Cast from the House of Night Series.
Suzi this is an author I look forward to trying. Enjoy!
I should have warned you about the lack of restrooms in NYC. Despite that problem, though, I really miss the city. There’s no other place quite like it. The lesson is: when you see a restroom, promptly take advantage of it because it may be the last one you ever see! (Eerie laugh fades in the distance.)
Thanks Barb – noted. 🙂 I will go every chance I get 😀
I hope you have a great time at BEA and I hope to hear about your experience!
Hi Heidi I really did!
Oh your so LUCKY! Sounds like your already having fun and I can’t wait until next year! I hope everything works out well for me to make it to BEA. Look forward to pictures!
Candace I hope you get a chance to go too – I cant put into words how great it was!
I can’t wait to hear more about what you’re getting up to at BEA!! I’m sure you’re going to have a fab time 🙂
HI Sarah – so fun 🙂
Started PREDATORY GAME by Christine Feehan.
Will finish IMPATIENT WITH DESIRE by Gabrielle Burton this week. A really good book. But since it is history, I know how it ends. She has done an excellent job of making these characters real to me. Crazy, but if I don’t finish the book, they will live a little longer.
Enjoy the BEA and NYC experience. The bathroom problem is a common one in large cities. We had a serious problem in San Francisco when we took my elderly aunt there for a visit. We had ended up in a mostly business area and there were no places to even ask. I felt so guilty and bad for her. Don’t think she even spoke to me for the next day or two.
I think I will write a BEA for Beginners post next year Pat and warm people of the bathrooms 🙂
Well, I’m back with my report…I visited all of the sites listed so far! Wow! Just crazy, but I was goal minded today and got it done. How do you do this every week? You seem to get so much done! So, a total of 70 visits for me this time…wow!
Have a blast in NY, again!
Nice job The1stdaughter! 😀
Enjoy your trip in NYC. I have never been but have always wanted to (doesn’t anyone who has watched Sex in the City?). I’m off to visit some sites now. Again, have a fantastic time!!!
Thanks Stephanie!
Oh, sorry about the hard lessons. It’s always hard to find a clean working bathroom in the cities. And the room, sorry, they are tight. I think they are really short on space in the big cities. 🙂 But I hope the rest of the trip is a blast for you.
Melissa – just good learning experiences 🙂 Now I know!
I’m up and I hit about 11 so far.

Great Andrea! 😀
Enjoy BEA — I hope to get there one day.
The Kite Runner is one of my favorite books — I can’t wait to see your review of the audiobook.
HI Suzanne – I am excited to review it!
I’m late posting this week just like last week and I want to apologize for not leaving a comment after entering on the Linky and even after your visit to me. I was waiting until I’d made those ten visits but I never completed them soo…
It’s been a topsy-turvey week. Yet nothing like yours!! Yi! Hope you are having fun though.
One thing our week did have in common was those pesky bathroom adventures tho mine weren’t in town.
Lesson: contractors time estimates don’t factor in Murphy’s Law so contingency plans are a MUST when the bathroom is being remodeled. And don’t return home 4 hours before he estimates having the water back on ’cause it is more likely to be 4 hours past his estimate if not more.
Read with joy.
Hi Joy – I had a blast! Sorry your week was a challenge- hope it got better!
I know I’m a day late, but it was so blessed hot here yesterday and today isn’t much better but had to make my rounds.
I hope you are having a great time!! Grandson is sick so my computer day is over and I only visited 11. I don’t know how you do it every week!!!
LORI
HAPPY READING!!
