Morning Meanderings…

Hi everyone.  I am having a blast in New York.  As promised here is a little picture “highlight reel” of what we have done so far.  There will be a full BEA recap when I get home, but for now… here is a sampler:

Me in Strand book store - 18 miles of book shelves "Heaven in a box"

Reagan and I went to Strand Book store on Monday afternoon to check out this book.  Literally wall to wall books.

Strand Book Store

… and floor to ceiling.

Then we went to the Teen Author Carnival (SO MUCH FUN!) and…..

Me and Laren Oliver (author of Before I Fall)

Squeeeee!!!!  She was so amazing!  I can not wait to read and review her book.

Simone Elkeles (author of Perfect Chemistry)

Squueee!!!  She is so down to earth and fun!

Sarah Ockler (author of Twenty Boy Summer)

Super Squeeee!!!   Sarah was so awesome and I bought her book and I got is signed 😀

Violet Haberdasher (author of Knightley Academy)

Violet was just fun to listen to her talk….. picture a younger JK Rowling.  She is very “Londony” and I fell in love with the idea of her book while listening to her passion about telling the story.  I now have a signed copy.  SQUEEE!!!!

And finally just a fun moment at the carnival….

Amy from My Friend Amy, Me, and Natasha from Maw Books

I met Amy and Natasha in person, two bloggers I truly admire.

So…. today – we are at BEA in the morning and tonight at 6 pm – Class of 2010 Debut authors event.  So excited about that one too.  Really I am just like a kid in a candy store.

Hope your day is super wonderful!  I will be back with a review in the afternoon.  🙂

  1. She didn’t mention, but she may have been more excited to see Natasha and Amy than anyone else! 🙂 Major SQUEE! Having a blast with you Sheila! Thanks for going on all these adventures with me!

  2. It sounds great!!! And it amazes me how you remember having your picture taken at the right moments – I’d probably just forget because of all the squee-ing!

  3. Sheila,

Thanks so much for sharing–big excitement in NYC! The miles of books in the bookstore you visited sounds like SO much fun…reminds me of City Lights Bookstore in San Francisco!

  4. Oh, so much excitement! It’s like a bookish carnival ride, don’t you think?

Enjoy! Looking forward to reading more.

Bet your coffee is from one of those NY coffee shops…or maybe they have coffee in the bookstores!

    1. Laurel – this is why you are a writer – GREAT description! I have been so busy I have just been on hotel coffee…. tonight however we are going to a debut author event so I may venture out into the NY coffee world! 😀

  5. Looks like a fun day to me, two things that would have been on the top of my list, if I was there (The Strand and meeting Amy and Natasha (and you))!!!

  6. Looking forward to meeting Lauren Oliver, as I loved Before I Fall!

So jealous you’ve already begun the fun, so will have to get into town asap and catch up! 😀

  7. I love your pictures, and hate them, all at once, if you know what I mean! But I’m glad you’re having such a great time! And I do love being able to go with you vicariously!

    1. Hi Jill – I know what you mean 🙂 I am hoping to bring some of the New York experience to this blog. I hope you can go next year – would love to meet you!

  8. Glad you are having a great time Sheila. That ‘Knightley academy’ looks tempting………keep up the SQUEES !

  9. Looks like you’re having the time of your life!! How exciting to not only meet those amazing authors, but to get to meet all those book bloggers!!!

Hope it just keeps getting better and better for you and you keep taking photos~

    18 MILES OF BOOKS??? WOW!!!

    1. Thanks Vicki – I am trying to “trim” the pics for the morning posts as I have taken so many already… 🙂 AT the end I will do a slide show I think 🙂

  10. Sheila,
Great Pictures and Post. Heaven In A Box, better than a candy store for me. Enjoy the rest of the conference.

  11. Sounds like you’re having a great time. I’m not sure how long I would last in Strand–usually you have to drag me kicking and screaming from bookstores but that looks a little claustrophobic to me.

    1. Lisa I was a bit surprised of the layout – it is a bit of an odd layout, very crowded. I was hoping for spaces to sit and chill with a book but there is nothing but books. And books. Oh, and books. 🙂

  12. So many books!! I could curl up and sleep like a baby among them. 🙂 My dream is to have book shelves like that!

  13. Glad to know that you are having an awesome time … You look so excited in the Strand book store and I can imagine why 🙂 Looking forward to your updates.

  14. I need to stay away from The Strand. My house is starting to look like The Strand. What a wonderful way to spend a few hours. The YA event should be great. There are so many wonderful YA books and authors out there right now.

Hmmmm... what do you think?
