Blogiversary! Year 4 – and Gifts Galore!!!

1a1a

Hi everyone!  Welcome to my 4 years of blogging blogiversary – this is the actual day, June 9th, when I officially became a blogger.

I never dreamed when I started writing reviews on line in 2009 that 4 years later I would still be doing it.  Blogging has really changed my life in positive ways that I would never have expected :

  • Writing reviews for a local magazine
  • being on a Twin Cities Panel
  • Going to the Book Expo for the past 4 years
  • Becoming President of The Friends Of The Library
  • Being on the city board for the library

Now you might think that some of these things I would have done without the blog but I dot think that is true.  Through this community of bloggers I have learned the value of reading and sharing what we read.  I have also read post after post of libraries and book stores closing, so I have become an even stronger advocate for the written word.  All that I owe to this little space on the internet that I call Book Journey.

For those of you who have come to my party the last few years, the basics are pretty much the same… to be entered for the great giveaways (pictured below), simply leave me a comment here telling me how you traveled to the party, and what virtual gift or food item you brought with you:  For example, you may have rollerbladed to the party and brought with you foot long licorice vines … (really be as crazy as you want… I love the fun imaginative comments!) For a little bonus if you would like to share how long we have known each other (blog or otherwise) and if you are brand new to the house of Book Journey – feel free to share that too!  I love new friends!  :D

My party will go for 24 hours so this post will go up at 12:01 am on June 9 (central time) and stay up until midnight.  Every comment will be entered into the random drawings and winners (using random.org)will be announced here on Monday morning on Its Monday What Are You Reading Post.

See last years party here

Your comment will go into a drawing (using random.org) for one of the following packages:

1
Package #1: 4 books, a sample chapter, swag and book bag

2
Package 2: YA pack – 3 books, swag items and book bag

3
Package #3: 4 books, swag and book bag

4
Package #4: 4 books, swag and book bag

Thank you readers, you make this blog a whole lot of fun!  I am so excited to celebrate with you.  I have cleaned the house and set out the “red solo cups” and have the punch on ice….  just waiting to see who will be knocking on my door…

wait!  There’s a knock!  Who could it be?

*opens door and looking surprised!*

PARTY TIME!!!

  1. Congrats on 4 awesome years! I have just started following your blog this year, but I have loved reading all of your posts. Such a fun blog and I love being able to read your reviews and recommendations.

    1. Lol forgot to tell you of my arrival via hot air balloon, bringing with me a chocolate fountain and all kinds of fresh fruits. Yum 🙂

  2. I hang glided to the party, and I’ve brought a big, overflowing basket of Russell Stover s’mores. Yum…Yum! Happy Blogiversary! Year 4! I’m fairly new to the house of Book Journey; I’ve known you for so many months, not really sure the number.

    1. Now Mystica…. I have to Google what that is…. LOL 😛 Thank you for coming!

A lamington is a dessert of Australian origin. It consists of squares of sponge cake coated first in a layer of traditionally chocolate icing, then in desiccated coconut. Lamingtons are sometimes served as two halves with a layer of cream or strawberry jam between…mmmmmmm

  3. Happy Blogiversary! My 4th was this year, too – but I forgot to celebrate. Whoops!! 🙂

Here’s to 4 more years and then 4 more and so on.

    1. Congratulations to you as well. It works out that it is right after BEA so I am usually still all hopped up on sugar…. errrr…. books and bloggers so I am always ready to celebrate 😀

  4. Four years already? Wow, congratulations! I’ve been blogging since 2009 too but I’m all online, I think the biggest thing is all the offline stuff you do!

I’ve got a really neat door at my house and I set it to CatTale’s books in downtown Brainerd. I brought a lasagne and a veggie platter with red onion dip from Knott’s Berry Farm and Hidden Valley ranch dressing.

Not sure how long I’ve known you. . . I came last year year so at least that long!

  5. Congratulations, Sheila, you’re doing a wonderful job! I arrive at your part from the Netherlands, of course I’ll arrive on a ship just like my 17th century ancestors and I’l bring with me a huge bunch of tulips, some Dutch biscuits like stroopwafels and for everyone who does not like sweets; Dutch gin (jenever)

    Have a great party!
    Kind regards,

  6. I’ve been blogging since January 2007, about 6-1/2 years now. I’ve been coming here for two or three years, but not since you first began. I arrived at this party on my flying carpet, managing to land without banging into the side of your house. Quite proud of myself for learning to drive this thing, actually. I’ve brought homemade Oreo cookie balls covered in almond bark made with white chocolate, and I’ve been eyeing that package #1 that you put together: 4 books, a sample chapter, swag, and book bag. Looks like your party is going full steam ahead! Great party, Sheila!

    1. HI Bonnie! I am so glad you made it – you have been my partner in crime… err banned books for a few years now. 😀 And the carpet you arrived on is beautiful… better roll it up and put it in the corner or people will be walking all over it. 😀

      1. Humpf, if people walk on it, the magic carpet will shiver and shrug, making folks decide to walk around it. But there it is, nicely rolled up over in that corner. Oh, you’re surprised I’m still here? Yeah, I’m one of those partiers who stays and stays and stays, especially when I’m having fun.

  7. *knocks on door…a catchy little tune*
    -door opens-
Hi! Wow you look fabulous! Not a day over 2 years of blogging beauty….=) Looks like I arrived fashionably on time.. You wouldn’ believe the traffic! Almost had to take the private jet!. Here you go… -hands flower centerpiece promised- … Oh and I couldn’t not bring snacks! Here, the hot wings you always wanted to try! What’s that? Oh, the sauce… No worries! I’ve got these fashionable little bibs that we can pass out/tie on that make you look like a character from your favorite books. Cool, right?
    Happy blogoversary my friend!
Hard to believe it’s been four years… Just celebrated my own four year milestone as well. Here’s to the coming year! * hugs*

  8. I will arrive on my brand new Spyder ST Three-Wheeled motorcycle (I saw one of these on the road yesterday and I’m petrified of riding a regular motorcycle, but I really think I could ride one of these 😉 ). I will be bringing you a cake that I learned to make in my new cake decorating class. It is a cake decorated with all your favorite literary characters and authors. I call it the Bookish Dinner Party cake. I think we will be sad to cut into it, but it must be done. 🙂

I started blogging just a couple of months after you and then I think we met within the first couple of months of my starting. It’s hard to believe I’ve been visiting your blog for almost four years now. I don’t get by as often as I used to, but I always enjoy your posts. You are a fun and sweet person, Sheila. Here’s wishing you a happy four years and many more to come!

    1. Thanks you for coming, I do not get to visiting others as much as I used to either. I am going to try to break that habit a bit 😀 Love the cake and your sweet ride – we may need to go for a spin!

  9. Wow! Congrats on running such a successful blog for four years now! I’m relatively new to the blogging world and your blog (I think I started reading it back in Jan of this year) but I absoutely love hearing about all the things you get up to bookwise and I love some of your reviews! It’s because of some of your audiobook reviews that I listened to my first audiobook this past week and loved it. It adds an extra special element to the book, so I’m looking forward to experience a heap more 🙂

AS to your party, being from the Land Down Under, I felt it only necessary to ride my pet Kangaroo to your party 🙂 I left last week because it was a long journey… and he had to learn to swim sometime too! As for the food, I’m bringing some of my friends amazing oreo cupcakes…you haven’t lived till you’ve tried them!

    1. YAY a kangaroo! How very down under of you! You probably have them like we have deer around here 😀
I am so excited that you are listening to audio and glad I could help! I am only about three years into audio myself but feel I have really been missing out on something incredible – plus my book count is much higher due to audio 😀

  10. Congrats! I think you’ve achieved a lot in your community at home and online in four years. 🙂 *Happy Dance* As a fairly new friend I’m bringing a chocolate and red berries lasagna cake, layered with hand whipped Jersey cream and I’m floating through the patio doors on an umbrella like Mary Poppins because chances are it was raining in the UK when I left. Any other requests? I have no free hands but I could totally fit something in my sparkly handbag….

  11. Congrats on your blogiversary …. I’m planning to arrive by private jet bringing with me all manner of sumptuous rawlisciuos fruit creations!

    1. I have a large yard so just park the jet over there… yes, yes.. there. Perfect! And mmmmmm rawlicious? That sounds marvelous! Come on in and don;t step on Bonnie’s magic carpet 😀

  12. Congratulations, Sheila….LOVE your blog.
I’m coming to your party on my banana bike (it’s gold) and bringing an apple pie.

  13. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

You must have so very many special memories. Wishing you many more years to come.

    1. Thanks you Mary, it truly has been a blast – new online and offline friendships, books I never thought I would read… actually adding a library in our house… it has been an adventure 😀

  14. Celebrate Good Times, Come On. Theres a party going on right here, a celebration…. Okay enough of my singing. CONGRATULATIONS! What a great milestone! I’ve brought some wonderful cream cheese filled pastry bagels. Yummo! And some steaming hot Hazelnut coffee with whipped cream.

    Party on!
    Smiles & Blessings,
    Cindy W.

  15. Hi Sheila, congrats on 4 years! I think I’ve followed you for the whole time. Love your blog so much I brought a kringle with me – you’ll love it!

    1. Hi Mary! Yes, I think you have been with me all the way too. A kringle…. another one I have to look up but I know it is fabulous! 😀 Ok, I just looked that up. Are you kidding me? It looks fantastic!

Kringle is a Scandinavian pastry, a Nordic variety of pretzel, which arrived with Roman Catholic monks in the 13th century, especially in Denmark. It developed further into several kinds of sweet, salty or filled pastries.

  16. I started following you when looking for a review of gone girls ending. I have hung around ever since I paddle boarded over with a bag of pistachios.

    1. Oh yeah…. that Gone Girl spoiler page has been quite a hit. 😀 Paddle boarding is awesome and I adore pistachio’s! You can park the paddle boat next to the ship Bettina arrived in 😀

  17. I have discovered many new books to read because of your reviews. Thanks for all you review to expand what I read.

  18. Congratulations on 4 years – a wonderful achievement. Being an Aussie, I hopped my way here in my kangaroo’s pouch & am bringing Tim Tams and Hugh Jackman. I have followed you using WordPress for some time.

    1. Nice! Two kangaroos now and I think an elephant. I have a special place in the yard for you to park and with all the rain there is plenty of water for the animals to drink.

I love that I am learning what some of these fun treats are:

Tim Tam is a brand of chocolate biscuit made by the Australian food company Arnott’s. A Tim Tam is composed of two layers of chocolate malted biscuit, separated by a light chocolate cream filling, and coated in a thin layer of textured chocolate. MMMMM

  19. Well Happy 4th Anniversary to you!!! I have been stopping by your beautiful blog on and off for the past few years. I especially love your BEA posts as that way I can go vicariously through you! I am especially covetting the 1st and 3rd prize packets so I will keep my fingers crossed for one of those :)!

Ok so my car doesn’t seem to want to start, so I’m going to hop on the back of my neighbor’s ginormous dog and catch a ride with him to your house. He ate the cream filled cupcakes I made you (who can blame him, it’s a long way to haul me!) so I stopped off at a bakery and got these new donut/croissant things I saw on television the other day…oh my they smell so good!!! Ok so I’m walking up to the door now so see ya inside :)!

    1. I am glad you could make – large dog and all! (I adore dogs!) I like your back up goodies – they sound wonderful! Come on in, your bog dog can play with my three.. .they will get along wonderfully. 😀

  20. Happy blogoversary!! I will definitely come to your party, and sinceyou are so very far away from me, I think I shall have to ride a thestral to get there. I hope you cannot see it, and if you can’t, don’t be alarmed at what looks like me streaming through the air unaided. I assure you, invisible or not, I do have a sturdy seat beneath me. 😀

No need to enter me in the contest – just wanted to join you at your party! 🙂

    1. Hi Amanda! Thanks for coming, it would not have been a party without you. How funny that I am sitting here thinking, can I see a thestral? I believe although almost, I can not see the thestral but LOVE that that is what you chose to arrive on.

  21. Wishing you a happy 4h Anniversary, it’s amazing how the simple act of blogging can change our lives for the better. Only this year I discovered your blog and what a happy happening that was, I’ve been introduced to so many wonderful new blogs and books through your meme’s and needless to say my tbr pile has grown considerably. I’ve pogo stick hopped my way here and in my knapsack is the most delicious chocolate cake for the party.

  22. Happy Blog Birthday! Four years is quite an accomplishment and I love how much it has changed your life. Loved seeing you at BEA!

  23. Well I know how you love Twilight, so when I glimpsed Edward darting down the street today I asked him to carry me and race directly to your party, and amazingly he agreed! I tried to convince him to stay, but alas – he dashed away before I could even knock on your door. At least I brought chocolate, right?

    Happy Blog Birthday!

    1. YAY Alyce 😀 I am so glad you came! And you had Edward bring you!!! I am laughing now, that is so brilliant! In my three years of posting my blogiversary this way, no one has ever caught a ride with Edward! 😀 Its just as well that he left… imagine if he became hungry? Oh the massacre….
      😀
But hey…. you brought chocolate 😀 Come on in friend!

  24. Happy blogoversary! We “met” right after you started blogging, so I’ve been a regular visitor ever since. Shortly afterwards, I created my first Word Press blog, An Interior Journey, and turned to you for various pointers about that platform.

I have come today (from California) via a handpainted VW bus, like the flower child I am; and, of course, I’m bringing flowers!

    1. Yes Laurel, you were one of my first blog connections. You and Ryan. And you have been a wonderful consistent commenter to the point that if you are not around commenting I think you are sick 😀
Love the VW bus! Are you playing 70’s music? Lets hook up some speakers and allow the party to flow outside… 😀

  25. Hi Sheila, I’ve known you for years and years (we won’t really go into how many!) and I am arriving by kayak with campfire cooked dutch oven rhubarb upside down cake. That darn rhubarb just doesn’t quit!

  26. Whew!!! I finally made it!! I started my journey to the party this morning on a bicycle built for two. I was hoping to find some company along the way. It’s early and you have a long day of celebrating ahead of you so I brought a hearty breakfast complete with eggs, homemade toast, sausage, hash browns and a lovely fruit salad. Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. Congratulations on another year in the blogging world! I look forward to seeing what is going on in your world every single day. Enjoy the party!!

  27. Hi Sheila! Happy Blogiversary! i love reading your blog and always look forward to your posts. I’ve been following you for about a year now. I will be riding my pet dragon to your party bringing Hot Spinach and Artichoke Dip, from Skinnytaste.com. See you soon.

  28. Happy 4th Blogoversary Sheila! I love reading your blog. I’ve found good books to read and inspiration for my book discussion groups and your posts are just fun to read! I arrived at the party on my pegasus and I’ve brought some Turkish Delight with me.

  29. Congrats on your 4th Blogiversary!!! I enjoy your posts but just reading about your life exhausts me 😀 I will be arriving to the party in a golden flying chariot bearing BIRYANI and SHAHI TUKDE, my two favorite foods.

Thanks for the generous giveaway 🙂

    1. I exhaust me too Mona 😀

Biryani: is a rice-based dish made with spices, rice (usually basmati) and chicken, mutton, fish, eggs or vegetables.

Shahi Tudke: is a bread pudding dessert of fried bread slices soaked in hot milk with spices, including saffron and cardamom

I think this is the first year that so many yummy dishes are coming that I have never heard of!

  30. Happy 4th Blogiversary! I’m fairly new at blogging (2 months today actually) and recently started following your awesome blog.

I’m arriving by speedboat and bringing with me some Bakewell tarts a childhood favorite of mine!

    1. Welcome to blogging! How exciting! A speedboat! YAY! Park that baby next to the ship and kayak in the front yard. Your tarts are welcome to join the other goodies on the serving tables.

  31. I have traveled here by moose from the far reaches of northern Ontario and have brought with me maple sugar candy (as a Canadian I’m obligated to bring maple syrup of some kind ha ha). Congrats on four years of blogging! I’ve been following you for two years or so, I remember last years celebration. It’s amazing how time flies. Keep up the amazing work and I look forward to more blogging from you in the future.

    1. MMMMMM Maple sugar candy! Thank you for being Canadian – LOL 😀 I love that you came by Moose, we have a cabin on the North shore and have seen fewer and fewer moose each year. He is welcome to hang out outside with the kangaroos and elephant or if you wish, he may go in the spare bedroom. 😀

  32. Happy Anniversary! I have been reading your blog for a couple of years and very much enjoy your reviews, as well as reading about your other activities. Thanks for being here!
I believe I will arrive at the party on a pogo stick and I am bringing guacamole!

  33. Happy Blogiversary. It is great you achieved so many great things with your love for books and your blog.

I was introduced to your great blog by following the source links on the It’s Monday posts from other people. I joined the ride the first Monday of this year and love to visit other blogs every week. Thank you for organizing such a great weekly.

I love to be invited to the party. I decided I would take a poffertjes bakery on my freight bicycle. I think it looks very festive and who does not like poffertjes (http://www.arnhemsmeisje.nl/wp-content/uploads/poffenier.jpg)

  34. Happy Blogoversary!!!! Just flew over from Wisconsin and are my arms tired!!! Let me unpack the Wisconsin wine and cheese and this cool side table I found to match your funky deck chair!!!

My week starts out perfectly each week because of you! Thanks! for hosting the fabulous party and my favorite meme!!!

  35. WOW! That 4 years went really really fast! I have been following you for 3 years now and I’ve known you for almost 10 years (Bookies) I arrived to this awesome party by parachute which thankfully did deploy 😉 I have brought Chocolate fudge cake with chocolate icing! Yum!

  36. Congratulations on four years! I think I’ve been reading here since close to the very beginning. 🙂 Let’s see – I arrived in my limo, driven by my personal chauffeur, Richard Armitage. I am bringing creme brulee and really good coffee. 🙂

  37. There’s no need to enter me but I’m going to play along anyway so I can celebrate your 4 years! I’m glad you’re blogging because you add so much to the community with your enthusiasm! I’m walking to the party with my new fitbit clipped to my waistband and I’m bringing beer!

  38. Happy Blogiversary! I am new to your blog and recently starting following you in the last month or so. I rode my burro, Pepe, across the very hot desert Southwest and across the rest of the USA and have finally reached your house. I have brought with me Margaritas made with the finest tequila ever know to woman! Also brought the salsa and chips! So let the party begin!

  39. I came to the party on my 4-wheeler from Wisconsin, (it was too wet to drive)brought cheese curds, cherry cobbler from Door county, some cranberries and for the hostess a t-shirt that says, Cheesehead and proud! I found your blog by accident two years ago and I LOVE it. Especially while in the process of moving from California to Wisconsin and I felt like you were a constant wen all the craziness was happening!!! I don’t really need to be in the drawings but I just wanted you to know that you’re awesome and thank you for your blog!!!!

    1. Love the t shirt! Putting it on now…LOL! It is wet here too…. the rain that will not stop! Oh well, plenty of room inside and plenty of room for the goodies you brought! Just park the 4 wheeler next to Lori’s parachute. 😀

  40. Congratulations! So glad to be here. I’ve left my bike around back, and will pop a couple of cans of Strongbow in the fridge.

    1. Awesoem Janet – glad to have you! Angie has started a scrabble tournament at the kitchen table, and Laurel is championing water polo in the back yard – or feel free to hang out by the food and drinks and mingle with other guests. 😀

  41. Hm, I just stepped off my private lear jet, and I’m balancing a platter of tiramisu as I ring your door bell. Happy blogiversary, Sheila! I think I’ve been following you since pretty near your beginning.

  42. Hi There! I just hopped off of my very PINK beach bike…(this is a dream as i want one and would probably die from over exercise after the first block) and I am carrying a big plate of PINK peanut butter cookies! Can I please see your book room!?! I have been following you for quite a while but I think that this is the first time i have attended your party:) I am very excited!

    1. Ahhhh! I love that the bike is pink! And the cookies too! 🙂 Yes, you can absolutely see the book room… hang out there if you like – read away – I would never deny anyone the book room! You will find a few others in there as well and I think they have set up a wine and cheese bar.

  43. Happy Blog -a-versary!! I had no idea you’ve been at this long. Four dozen roses and a big bag of baby carrots are my contributions. SO glad I have gotten to know you through Friends of the Brainerd Library, although we’ve probably crossed paths hundreds of times without knowing each other! 🙂 Hope the sun comes out to brighten your special day! See you tomorrow!!

  44. Congratulations! Enjoy this lovely celebration. Your prizes are simply wonderful. I will be bringing chocolate mousse and arriving in my vintage nash.

    1. Thank you Anne – it has been a lovely celebration. I adore these posts and love the creativity of the comments. This post will bring me smiles for weeks to come 🙂 Thank you for the chocolate mousse, I will keep it away from the real moose so no one gets confused. 😛

  45. HI Sheila, we’ve known each other for at least 3 years, since you reviewed my book Daughter of Mine. I’m coming over from Montreal on a motorcycle trying to balance little cups of tiramisu dessert. Hope I don’t lose any on the way!

    1. Hi Laura, that’s right! We have known each other a while now! Thank you Laura for coming and love that it is on a motorcycle! I have one in the garage, park next to it. Great to have an author in the house! 😀

  46. I just started running recently in an attempt to make this over 40 body shape up at least a little bit! so I ran over (can I shower quick?) I brought diet coke (as coffee is to you..diet coke is to me) and I brought chocolate cookies..homemade of course
I have no clue how I found your blog but I think I have followed you since the beginning because I remember when you won the trip to new York the first time…you are extremelyentertaining and I look forward to your meanderings in the am!
I listened to my very first audio book because of a win on your blog!

    1. Hi Diana! Yes the New York trip win (LOVE Sarah Pekkanen!!!) was the spring of 2010. So glad you hung with me on this bumpy ride! Kudos on running and yes use the shower, as far as I know that is one space that is still unoccupied by fellow books lovers. 😀 I enjoy a diet coke now and then and today is sounds perfect! I am so happy to hear that you have listened to audio because of me… it is a goal of mine to make new audio listeners! 😀

  47. I’m going to have some of my bird friends fly me up to Minnesota this year. So watch the skies, I’m not sure how to land! I’ll be bringing coffee and brownies for dessert.

I’m an old reader… you can take that any way you like! lol I’ve been blogging books for almost four years and know I’ve been reading Book Journey for most of them.

    1. Leslie you have lots of bird friends so I have a feeling they will plant you right on the grund – gently of course 🙂 Coffee and brownies are perfect – later tonight I think we will have a camp fire and sing book to movie theme songs 😀

      1. I forgot to mention that the birds were staying for the party so they could bring me back home. They don’t eat much and bird poop is good fertilizer! If we’re going to sing you’ll have to toss some Amaretto in my coffee… I’m a horrible singer and will need a little encouragement.

  48. Since I live in Minnesota, I will speed walk to the party carrying Swedish crackers I made with my mother’s recipe. A new winery just opened up near me, so I will be bringing Ballet, one of their wines.

I discovered your blog during the last year. I have read so many of the older books you have suggested. Right now I have the three books from the ladies of Little House on the Prairie out from the library. Thanks so much.

    1. Nice! A fellow Minnesota blogger! I like the sound of that wine! Perfect! I laughed that I have you on the Little House kick too. A friend of mine is going to borrow me the Melissa Gilbert book. 😀 I am currently watching Little House season one. 🙂

  49. Woohoo! Happy Blogiversary 🙂 Congrats Sheila!

What a party! Sorry I just arrived on my magic carpet (borrowed from someone who works with Thursday Next) and I brought along a whole carpetload of ice-cream (in exotic flavours like mango, ube, green tea, cardamom etc.) … let’s start a’lickin’ 🙂

    1. YAY! A second magic carpet. I really must look into getting one for myself…they look like such fun! And ice cream – what a perfect accompaniment to the goodies already here. I am especially interested in the green tea one…. mmmmmm 😀

  50. Happy Blogiversary!!! CONGRATS!!

I am flying in on my well-used typewriter, you know typing/business teachers can’t go anywhere without some type of keyboard. 🙂

A sheet of paper with a list of wonderful books for 2013 is blowing in the wind above the keyboard and the list is ready for perusal.

I am bringing an artichoke, spinach dip with sea salt crackers for everyone to enjoy.

Looking forward to the party. ASDFJKL:

    Elizabeth

      1. I was going to come on a horse called Silver, but the typewriter was much more appropriate for me. 🙂

Oh, the sea salt crackers are delish. I get them at Aldi’s. Yummy. The dip is good too. 🙂

Looks like you are having a GREAT party!! 🙂

  51. Congrats on your Blogiversary! I have come to the party in a covered wagon (I am slow today), and I have brought some chocolate chip cookies and iced tea. Let’s party!

    1. A covered wagon! You know I am watching old Little House On The Prairie episodes so the wagon speaks to me. Go ahead and park by the kangaroos so the horses (I assume it is drawn by horses but it could be monkeys or bluebirds…) can get some water. 😀

  52. Happy Anniversary! 🙂

I have been so busy living life and getting ready for Kili that I hardly have time these days. I miss my book blog friends. I just read your BEA posts and added several books to my TBR list.

    Keep it up Sheila!
ps: I remember when you didn’t have a library card!!!!

  53. Happy blogiversary!! 4 years is quite an accomplishment and I hope you continue to have an awesome blogging experience. I’m skydiving to your party with a homemade chocolate mousse pie, though I don’t know how well it’ll stand up to the rapid descent from above.

  54. I traveled by sled dogs from Canada, bearing gifts of Beaver Tails just to congratulate you and wish you a happy blogoversary! I have been a follower for quite some time, and value your fabulous reviews. I’ll never forget you sending me a book after commenting on a review. I still thank you for that!! Funny, can’t recall now which book though… lol… but thank you all the same! You’re awesome Sheila! Here’s to many more blogoversaries to come!

  55. Congrats on your Blogiversary! I’ll be right over, I’m strapping on my roller blades now. I have a warn Rhubarb crisp and my husbands famous German pretzels to share!

    1. Door is open and ready for you Jenni, I even had a skateboard ramp built in the front yard for the occasion – feel free to blade right up to it – the ramp is set so you should (should) fly in the air, do a flip and land on the front deck. We have only tested it on crash dummies but we are semi confident that it will work 😀 And I will be standing out there to catch the rhubarb crisp in the event of any mishaps 😀

  56. Howdy from the Great State of Texas, and Happy Happy Anniversary, Sheila! I rode my pony here with a big pot of Texas 5-Alarm Red Hot Chili and a pan of cornbread for the party! I think that’s I’ve “known” you since almost the beginning of your blog! Have a wonderful day, dear friend! And here’s to many more years of loving books!

  57. Wow has it been 4 years already? Where does the time go? So let’s see I Traveled from the green forests of Oregon by way of Giraffe and since I’m trying to eat better, I am bringing trays of grapes and strawberries with some sugar snap peas to add a little green flavor to the mix.

  58. Congratulations on the anniversary! How awesome! I’d love to come to the party in a personal airplane. With a box of fancy chocolates.

    1. Hi Heidi! I think our number one form of transportation this year is by personal planes – I think there are 4 of them here now with yours. The neighbors I bet are all abuzz with curiosity! 😛

  59. HI Sheila, and congrats on 4 awesome years of blogging. You have made so many people happy by writing this blog, so keep it up! By the way, I had to come by camel and bearing an ice cream cake, to boot! It’s kind of melting after the long trip over the dunes, so please feel free to dig in right away! Cake for everyone! Enjoy 🙂

  60. Happy Blogaversary Sheila!! I found your blog in February, thanks to your It’s Monday! What are you Reading? posts – I love participating in this awesome meme to organize my reading a little bit, even if I don’t always stick to my plan 🙂 It’s really amazing what blogging helps us to in other parts of our lives as well, isn’t it?

I am arriving to your party on my shiny, sparkly electrical bike! I have pedaled for quite a while, even crossing the Atlantic 😉 I have brought you my homemade chocolate fondant cake, with home-made vanilla sauce, as well as some Swiss wine to celebrate your four years of blogging! May there be many more.

    1. OOH look at your pretty bike! I love bikes! I am so glad Lexie that you found the meme… I don’t always stick to the reading plan either :D.

I just passed around spoon and bowls for Rita’s cake so we can quickly refill them with your delicious fondant cake with the vanilla sauce… wow… I am going to hve to work out for a week straight after today! 😀

  61. Wishing you a very happy 4th blogoversary Sheila. It feels like I have known you forever and not just four years. I know I don’t comment as often as I should (bad bloggy friend I am) but I do stop by to read your daily posts. It makes my day. Wishing you all the best and many many many more years of blog posting 🙂

    1. Roomy! I am so glad you made it! I have seen a couple others from Canada here as well! It has been 4 years… I remember we both used to comment on a blog that I think the guy was Michael? I cant remember the blog name but I think he helped me find you. He made me my first blog button back when I had no idea how to create one. 😀

      1. Isn’t it fun to reminisce? I remember I had NO clue about anything. Kathy of Bermudaonion encouraged me to keep at it, and I sure am glad I did. It will be three years for me in July.

I wouldn’t know what to do without my blogger friends or my blog. It has become a passion and an obsession. I LOVE IT.

  62. Hi, Sheila! Congratulations on your 4-year blogoversary! That’s terrific, and I love the idea of throwing a virtual party to celebrate.

I’m a brand-new attendee; I just discovered your blog (and thoroughly enjoyed your BEA wrap-up post with all the book goodies!) I’ll be hanging around more in the future. I’m arriving at the party via dragonback, and I’m bringing English trifle (provided it survives going between.)

    1. Thanks for coming! The virtual party was an idea I had year two and it was so much fun and everyone got into it (love readers – we are soooo imaginative!) that it became a thing. 😀

Welcome and I hope you do stop by often. I havent been the best blogger lately and I have many reviews to catch up on but I am hoping I am ready to start!

You have the second dragon here so lets put him (him?) out back with the other one. They can help light the campfire tonight. 😀

  63. Congratulations, Sheila!
I have been following your book journey for over 2 years now. I found you soon after I began book blogging. I know how busy i am and it just amazes me the energy you have both blogging and with your charity events,.
I love keeping up with your news, even if I dont always comment.

Wishing you a very happy blogoversary!

  64. Hi Sheila.

I think I have followed you at least a year.

As I live in Greenland I am of course arriving on a dogsledge travelling across the Inland Ice sheet bringing some Mattak. As that is an equired taste I also bring some Danish Pastry.

    1. What a great dog sled! They look thirsty lets get them over to the water trough I have sat up in the yard. Come on in, things are just starting to get a little crazy as we hit later afternoon here – someone has started playing 80’s music and I am not sure who that is break dancing in the living room but they have moves! 😛

    1. Well hey there Millie! Welcome to the party! Rain gear is quite appropriate! Thanks for the cake – we will add it to the goodie tables where people are starting to mill around as they are getting the late afternoon munchies… I may need to call Domino’s…

  65. Wow, how time flies? I can’t believe it’s been so long, I’ve been jumping around blogs for 3 & a half years, and since your one of the 1st ones I started visiting often, wow!

So, congratulations, Sheila, and happy blogoversary!

  66. Congrats on you blogoversary! I’m so glad you stopped by to remind me! I think I’m going to go out and cut down some fresh rhubarb and make a yummy rhubarb crisp. Then I will hop on the helicopter so I can buzz over to you quickly so you can have it while it’s still warm! Take care Sheila!

    1. Hi Joanne! So glad you could make it. It was fun commenting today – it has been a while since I have done it. Fresh rhubarb – yum!!!! I like the helicopter, as you land the propellers are blowing and drying out my yard, just in time for the conga line! 😀 Hurry and join in!

  67. I teleported here (straight from your comment on my blog – thanks, btw) and brought some toasted ravioli. Happy blogaversary!

    1. Ok now that… is an awesome comment. I have always wanted the gift of teleporting and you have just told me that I do already have that gift. 😀 Thank you! The ravioli is perfect for this damp and dreary Minnesota afternoon!

  68. Happy blohoversary Sheila. I’ve been around since your first blogoversary i.e. 3 years. I’m at the Canary Islands at the moment, West of the African continent.

So i thought I’ll arrive in a hollowed tree trunk rowing all the way to Minnesota. I’ll be bringing cooked potatoes and mojo sauce, a speciality of the Islands. And another speciality. … banana liquor!

    Happy partying!

    1. Ahhh… coming by tree….. lol that is new and creative! I expect nothing less from you 😀 Thank you Judith for making it, and I am excited to try this specialty potato dish! (It kind of makes me feel like my chicken soup supper is lacking…. ha! ) 😀

  69. I rode my bike all 270 miles and am quite tired……I stopped and picked up a watermelon boat and some salmon for the grill, complete with a side cucumber sauce. Oh and a drinky winky for all!

I have known you since the seventh grade I believe. Happy bloaversary!

  70. Happy Blogiversary, Sheila! You have certainly done a lot in the time since you started. I can barely find time to blog let alone do anything else. I guess you are my new blog hero!
I am sure the party is in full swing by now and sorry to be so late. I will be coming via good thoughts since I am watching my 3 year old grandson while his mom is getting better since a car accident earlier this week. It scared us all but she will be just fine, thank goodness. If I were to come, I would be bringing the vanilla/chocolate half-and-half cookies we made today. They are yummy if not that neat to look at. Have a great party and many more great blog years ahead!

    1. It comes and goes Karen, I do not have as much time as I used to that’s for sure. I am just happy you were able to attend. There is plenty of food!

So glad everything is ok with that car accident. WOW! Thanks for the cookies 😀

  71. I’m running up North to your house because I’ve been all about running lately. What I’m bringing needs to fit in my pockets because I don’t like to run with stuff in my hands. Therefore, I’m bringing pop rocks. Do you remember those? They were all the rage when I was in 4th grade.

    1. Good for you with the running – you are my hero… I want to be a runner. 😀 Pop Rocks! How run! I love those! They are great with diet Pepsi, we can all look like we are foaming at the mouth 😛

  72. I’ve just boated up (surely there are rivers I could travel from Omaha to Brainerd?) to drop off orangesicle mini-cupcakes and to wish you a happy blogiversary! I think I must have started visiting not long after you started blogging – I’ve been coming around long enough to see a lot of incarnations for Book Journey. No need to enter me in the drawing – I’m working like a demon to reduce the number of books I have in my house but I did want to stop by to say hello!

  73. Happy day, Shelia! I’ve been reading with you since that first summer! And this year, I’ve obviously been hard at work on my ark to head up your way! Always enjoy the BEA posts, this year is no exception–thanks for letting us share in your adventure.

  74. Hi, Sheila. I stumbled onto your blog maybe a year ago and stayed for the party. I grin every time there’s a post from you…and I loved reading about your breakfast with Adriana Triggiani… One of my favorite authors. I felt like i was right there with you! Since I am coming all the way from Montana, I am flying in on a Turkey Vulture and am bringing magical dark chocolate s’mores and tall, frothy, ice cold very dark lattes. I ‘ll try not to spill as I soar over your beautiful trees and lakes.

    1. Oh thanks Linda – if I can make someone smile I have done my job 😀 Turkey vulture? Very very cool. I like the idea of these magical smores too and lattes – just the thing as we en barque upon evening here and people are starting to gather around the camp fire! Please join us!

  75. Happy Blogiversary Sheila! So happy for you!! I found your blog right after you started it, so I’ve been popping in and out for the last 4 years. Your reviews, humor and biking posts keep me coming back.

How am I getting to your party? Well, on my walk the other day, I found a really strange looking watch. After playing around with it a few minutes, I discovered that it can freeze time…for everyone but me of course. How cool is that? (Can you say “Me Time”?) Since I haven’t had a vacation for a long time, I decided to travel by motor home and bring my boat and bike so that I can see the country and stop at all the bike trails and lakes and spend some time relaxing and getting some exercise. Thanks to my watch, I can take my time and still won’t be late to your party.

I decided to make a fruit and yogurt trifle that I found on Pinterest. It’s very yummy!! I hope you like it as much as I do!

    1. OOH I like that you brought a motor home and toys to go with it – you can bike and boat here – Minnesota had plenty of ways to do both 😀
Love the fruit and yogurt idea! So glad you could come!

  76. Happy blogiversary! I guess we now share a blogiversary, because I just launched my own book blog today. I would love if you would check it out at http://www.smilingshelves.com. There’s not much there yet, but it’s coming! I’ve been following your blog for about six months now, and I enjoy reading your posts and reviews.

Let’s see…I arrived at your party by walking on the Northern Lights. I brought a plate full of double chocolate brownies and some glasses of milk (every good brownie needs a glass of milk).

Congrats on four years of blogging!

    1. Wow! That is cool Julie! I hope you really enjoy it! Walking on the Northern Lights? Very cool! Brownies and milk sound fantastic! Thanks so much for coming and I am excited to see what you do with your blog!

  77. Happy four years and to many more! I opted to avoid traffic, and traveled in Gelinda, the good witch’s, bubble equipped with a couch, The Middlesteins on audio tape, and with a plethora of homemade chocolate frogs, with cards to boot!

Met you at BEA this year, in the shipping area. Hope to see you next year!

  78. Woo hoo, it’s a party!! Congrats on four years of blogging. To many, many more.

I decided to avoid conventions, called up my friend the good witch, and hitched a ride with her in her bubble. Hope you don’t mind I brought a guest! And, plenty of homemade chocolate frogs, with cards to boot.

  79. Wow, it’s amazing that it’s been four years!!! Congratulations 🙂

I don’t think I realized they were giving away ARCs of Written in My Own Heart’s Blood…I’m extremely jealous!

  80. Happy Happy Blogoversary Sheila! It seems like you have been around for more than four years. You have done sooo much! I have traveled from Florida in a motorcoach so I can visit a bit on the way home. 🙂 I have brought a mango cheesecake to share with the party-goers.
Thanks so much for all you do and for inviting us to celebrate with you!

  81. Congratulations and Happy Blogoversary! And thank you for bringing so many of us together each week with It’s Monday.
I came to your fabulous party on a unicorn (because that is how one should always travel to a party) and I brought all of the fixings for ice cream sundaes because I am enjoying some ice cream right now! 🙂

  82. Happy Blogoversary! I arrived via submarine and bring you precious jewels from Atlantis. 😉 I’m a new reader but I’ve quickly fallen in love with your blog!!

  83. Congratulations and Happy Blogiversary! My FIRST blogging anniversary is almost here, and I agree that blogging brings all kinds of good things into your life! I loved discovering your It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? meme and participating it! I rode the Knight Bus to the party and am bringing butterbeer!

  84. Happy Blogiversary Sheila!! I don’t have a blog, but I do enjoy reading them, and finding more books to read ( not that I need any help).
I came on my bicycle and brought M & M’s!
I once had a beagle, so I enjoy your pictures of Mater!!!

  85. I am so sorry I’m late, but things have been crazy for the last few weeks around here.

It was so crazy, that it took me forever to find the proper transportation to your glorious party. After what seemed hours of searching in vain, I finally found someone willing to give me a lift.

Just as I was about to give up all hope, this group of teenagers in a green and yellow van stopped and offered me a ride. I would have been able to use their help the entire way there, but there dog kept begging for some kind of snack, and some shaggy haired guy kept giggling the entire way. It sort of creeped me out a bit. It didn’t help that they kept talking about haunted houses the entire time I spent with them.

So we got to Omaha, and I just had to bale on them. I couldn’t take the giggling any more. So I took off on foot, not something I would do for just anyone mind you, when a family of three stopped and offered me a ride. They seemed nice a first, if a bit primative in their dress. The father looked as if he were wearing a dress with a necktie, and the mother wore what appeared to be a white fur dress. They had a lovely young daugter with them, cute as a buttong, but she kept talking about small rocks for some reason. I’m not sure what kind of pet was in the backseat with me, I don’t think it was a dog, but it behaved as if it were one. I swear the entire time I was in their car, I thought I smelled burning flesh as if the car was running on foot power, instead of horse power. They were only able to get me to St. Paul, and I know it wasn’t a long trip from there, so once again I set out on foot.

Luckily for me, a lovely young blond woman pulled over and offered to bring me to your front door. I wasn’t sure what to make of her at first. She looked as if she was a race car driver, but she was dressed all in pink and used a parasol for shade as she drove. The car’s grill looked like oversized lips, and it appeared to have eyelashes coming out of it’s headlights. Despite my misgivings, I got into her car, and away she took off. She kept muttering something about a guy in a green trenchcoat chasing her, but she never voiced her fears out loud. But as soon as she dropped me off, she was off like pink lightning.

So after all that, her I am, wishing you a wonderful blogoversary and I can’t belive it’s been four years since I first stumbled upon you and your blog. You were one of the first blogges who showed me kindness and welcomed me with open arms, so for that, I owe you my thanks and lots of gifts.

So to celebrate your blogoversary I have come ladened with such gifts that will blow your mind. First off, is a $1,000,000 gift card to Cafe Book. When I told Mia Devlin where I was coming she felt so bad that she couldn’t come that she graciously offered the gift card, and is more that willing to welcome you with a big cup of coffee when you come to redeem it.

To follow that up, I have brought along Pierre, an adorable baby giraffe who is more than willing to make his new home with you and your family. He has been endowed with the gift of human speech by Mother Nature herself, so I’m sure you guys are going to get along just fine.

I aslo wanted present you with a lifetime pass that gives you full access to The Library of Congress as well as a magically programmed Kindle. With this special Kindle, you can download any book ever written, even if it’s not available in electronic form. There is no space limit and every book will be free of charge.

Your final gift for this year, is the one I’m the most jealous of. It’s a 4 week, all expense paid vacation to Hogsmeade. You will be allowed full access to Hogwarts and will be able to sit in on any class you so desire. I’m really hoping you have a great time with this one.

Now just in case you though I was forgetting refrehments for those still at this wild party, don’t fret, such a thing is not something I would ever do. So here is the menu, that I had the Swedish Chef and Bobby Flay collaborate on.

    1. Chili & lime seasoned calamari
    2. Paella with Italian charizo, chicken, and giant prawns
    3. Italian suage, flat bread pizza with pineapple pesto
    4. Roasted sweet potatos with a honey and blasamic reduction
    5. Pit roasted suckling pig with a raspberry and lemon sauce
    6. Rhubarb pie from Betty’s Pies
    7. Chewy pecan cookies
    8. Blueberry sorbet
    9. 30 bottles of an Australian Riesling
    10. 30 bottles of a Columbia River Valley Merlot

    1. Ryan! Oh my gosh! I laughed and cried! What a perfect ending to the party! I am so glad you made it and overwhelmed with your generosity! Thank you so much – your generous snacks are just in time as everyone has eaten me out of house and home… they ate everything that people brought and them started in on my cupboards!

Seriously thought friend, Thank you – for your awesome comment, your presence on the blogesphere… you truly are an awesome person! I am thankful for meeting up with you 4 years ago!

  86. First Congratulations and thank you for your encouragement to me this past year ( even though you don’t know me! ). I am in my first year of blogging and reading you has helped me along the way.

I took a flying book to get to you – I don’t go anywhere without a book! I brought finger friendly snacked, so we can continue to read!!

Thank you for another year! The first set of books are what I am drooling over!!
