In other home front news it is Thursday and I think I have made it through most of the craziness. I still do dinner and prep the next two nights for my group we are serving with IHN, but I have no evening commitments. NO evening commitments. Man…. I like the sound of that. That translates into a little blog catching up time and reading! Yes!!! Reading. 😛

You are killing me with these questions this week. Well, not killing me but they are completely coinciding with mood…you could see my post from yesterday for a clue to my mood. 😉
I have often thought about the question you have asked and I continue to come to the same conclusion.
I would love to leap into Clarie’s world from Outlander. I have read all the books in the series, what I would like to do is start from the beginning and go through the whole series. There is a caveat though, and that is, if I am not Claire then I must come to no harm and I must meet someone as fantastic as Jamie. 😉 Why this series? First, these books are my absolute favorites, I like history (mid-1700’s, especially when in America), and the adventure is pretty exciting as well.

Yes, I cannot think of anything at the moment…I do love Kate Atkinson’s books, though, and have read two of the books in your treasure trove above…Not the End of the World is one I’ve missed….
Okay, I’m thinking of a Nancy Thayer novel, called Belonging…the character, Joanna Jones, is a sophisticated hostess of a TV show about fabulous homes…she has everything going for her until a car accident forces her to change her priorities.
Afterwards, she discovers an old Nantucket home and finds she truly belongs in her new world.
OOH I like the ending Laurel….. that would be a place I would like to be. 🙂
To Kill a Mockingbird has always been right up at the top as one of my all-time favorite books! The controversial time period and Boo Radley intrigue me. I would be in the book
from the start…

I would have to go with Nancy Drew, one of her early mysteries. Cheesy, I know, but I have great memories of reading Nancy Drew as a kid and I happen to love cozy mysteries. So there you have it!

I would choose In the First Circle by Aleksandr Solhenitsyn, so I could witness first hand what he and others experienced (since I did major in the USSR) I would have chosen The Gulag, but I am not that strong. 😉

I would enjoy being dropped off in an Anne of Green Gables novel. The era, the setting and the characters are all appealing.
Wouldn’t that be a cool era to live in Pearl? I think I can feel myself relaxing just thinking about it. 🙂
An adventure which I would love to experience would be to live during the Italian Renaissance in the book The Glassblower of Murano.

I would like to be dropped into Brenda Whiteside’s SLEEPING WITH THE LIGHTS ON and play it out until the end. I would love to be the heroine Sandra Holiday. After two failed marriages and countless relationships, Sandra thinks she’s met the man to end her years of less than perfect choices; choices that left her single and broke.
Carson Holiday, a Las Vegas country crooner with swoon-inducing good looks, spent his adult life pursuing a recording contract and love, never holding on to either. There is a certain scene where I would,as Sandra, like to enter, and follow it all the way through to the end of the book. Here’s the scene:
Pulling me around, we stopped, facing each other. My head said run like hell, but my legs wouldn’t respond. Mushy from wine or Carson and moonlight. I couldn’t be sure which.
“Have lunch with me tomorrow, darlin’.” His fingers slipped from mine to gingerly brush along my forearm. The moonlight caught in his eyes. “Another hour of your time with a long lost friend?”
“Yes.” My voice went all husky and come-hither. I wanted to kick myself for being so easy.
“Good.” Grasping my hand again, he led me toward the door. “What’s the address of your office?”
I struggled to shake off the moon shadows and to remember where I worked. Once inside the building, I took a scrap of paper from my purse and wrote the address.
“I’ll walk you to your door and say goodnight,” he said, tucking the scrap of paper in his pocket. “Unless you want to have me in for a goodnight drink.”
I didn’t answer. If he’d only known the extent of my uncertainty at that moment, a little persistence might have made me cave.
“Okay, then—” His mouth gaped.
I followed his bewildered look to my apartment door.
Just one great scene of many that kept me spell-bound through out the Book.

I just read the blurbs on these three books. They sound wonderful. As a fan of Inspector Morris and the followup, Inspector Lewis, on Masterpiece Theater, I would really enjoy these books.
I almost said I would like to change places with Elizabeth in PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, but today I am in the mood for a bit more adventure than that. Julie Garwood wrote many good stories taking place in the Highlands of Scotland. I wouldn’t mind changing places with any of her heroines. My favorite, however, is RANSOM. It is the sequel to another good book, THE SECRET. Gillian, the heroine in RANSOM, has courage, compassion, and a sense of purpose and duty. Brodick, the kilted hero, embodies everything you would want in a man of courage, honor and duty. He also has a sense of humor and isn’t above a bit of trickery to get what he wants. I would want to trade places with Gillian for the whole book.

What a difficult question. Since I can not say enough good things about The Outlander series I think that I would like to be Claire. I think the only caveat to that would be that I would like to jump in BEFORE the novel even starts. I think that it would be fascinating to live within her modern day marriage before the story begins. I think that if I had this perspective I may understand her desire to stay in the past so much more and would have a better understanding of her relationship and feelings towards Jamie, besides who wouldn’t want to be so close to such a manly hunk of a man, even if it is just in a make believe world. 🙂 This series is a must read! It has a little bit of something for everyone!

TRASH looks interesting. I can imagine what it is about. When I was in the Peace Corps, we often discussed how wasteful Americans in general were. There were many families that virtually live at or near the dumps near US military bases. They were able to feed their families and make a living from what was thrown away. Many of them lived better that the poor farmers in the barrios.
I haven’t seen the trailer, so I am making a big guess based on the cover.
I watched the little trailer (45 seconds) this morning Pat. I am cautiously optimistic. While I would like to read a book about the children in the dump because I have been to the dump where people live in Honduras, there is a bit of apprehension that the book may not portray these kids as I see them and I am so protective of that. Hope that makes sense.
I get the Shelf Awareness newsletter as well, and i’ll have to say it’s very good. Lots of news from the publishing world.
If I were going to dropped in the middle of a book, I would have two choices. The first is, The Lord of Rings books. I want to go along with Frodo and Sam on their journey to cast the ring into the fires of Mt. Doone (not sure on the spelling)…
The second, I want to be the heroine in Laura Kinsale’s historical fiction with a magical twist, Uncertain Magic. The scene I envision the most is where they tricked the soldiers into thinking that the Sidhe were cavorting among the ruins of the old home on the hill. I’m of Scottish background and this one really appeals to me…

If I could be assured that I’d be home in the end, I’d love to be dropped into the world of Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, perhaps as an apprentice magician. There would be magic, faery, and history all at once!
This is a tough question, so I’m just going to go with the most recent book I’ve read. I’d like to be dropped into Sizzling Sixteen by Janet Evanovich from the beginning. And as for characters, I’d want to be Stephanie Plum when Ranger shows up in this novel.

Giving this some more thought, I’d also like to be dropped into the Betsy Devonshire needlework series by Monica Ferris. I love to do needlework and it would be great to be one of the stitchers who gather in the Crewel World shop to stitch.

I didn’t want to put myself in any danger. Finally, I have determined that I would jump into most of Anne Tyler’s books, but specifically I’d first choose Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant and second, Saint Maybe.
I’d want to be in Touching Darkness by Scott Westerfeld. I’d prefer to play through the whole book, as the entire thing sounds like a great deal of fun and adventure.
