Good morning. I had a little time to read my Shelf Awareness mail this morning and that is always a good start to the day. If you do not subscribe, I encourage you to look into it. Shelf Awareness drops you an email newsletter of upcoming books, new releases, book store news, and more. The side picture you are seeing this morning of the book TRASH came from that e newsletter this morning and I am kind of fascinated about what it could be about. You can subscribe here for your own customized Shelf Awareness Daily News.
In other home front news it is Thursday and I think I have made it through most of the craziness. I still do dinner and prep the next two nights for my group we are serving with IHN, but I have no evening commitments. NO evening commitments. Man…. I like the sound of that. That translates into a little blog catching up time and reading! Yes!!! Reading. 😛
Yesterdays BBAW random.org winner for the $10 Amazon gift card is:
DARCYO!!!
Darcy’s comment had read: “I’d like to be friends with Goldy Schulz, the caterer from Diane Mott Davidson’s mysteries. She’s fun and makes great food (and treats)”!
Thanks Darcy – I will have that emailed to you today! 😀
So on to today’s giveaway… I have three books from a wonderful author – Kate Atkinson. The books are all new and the titles are: Not The End Of The World, One Good Turn, and Case Histories.

For today’s giveaway please leave me a comment here letting me know if you could really – LITERALLY, get into a book, which book (fiction or non fiction) would you like to be dropped into and play it out until the end. That’s right you can not escape until the last page where you will magically be transported back to your world.
For a bonus entry – let me know is a certain scene in the book where you would like to enter, or if you want to start as part of the book and follow it all the way through.
Ie…. Harry Potters friends could become Ron, Hermione, and Sheila.
I’m just saying… 😉
USA and Canada entrants on this one as I am shipping three books. The winner will be announced here tomorrow morning during the meanderings. Good luck everyone and have a fantastic day! 😀

I just don’t have the energy to be creative … maybe after another cup of coffee I’ll come back …
LOL Hannah. I hear you there….. 😀
Alas, I didn’t ever come up with a good idea. 😦
It was tough to pick just one book, but I’m going to say that I’d like to be dropped into Little Women right from the beginning. I just love the March family!
Kathy what a great pick!
there’s a bodice ripper called a pirate’s love by johanna lindsey….there was a lot of “hotness” in that book!
I hope you survive Diana! LOL
I too am curious as to Trash is about. Thanks for the heads up on Shelf Awareness.
You are killing me with these questions this week. Well, not killing me but they are completely coinciding with mood…you could see my post from yesterday for a clue to my mood. 😉
I have often thought about the question you have asked and I continue to come to the same conclusion.
I would love to leap into Clarie’s world from Outlander. I have read all the books in the series, what I would like to do is start from the beginning and go through the whole series. There is a caveat though, and that is, if I am not Claire then I must come to no harm and I must meet someone as fantastic as Jamie. 😉 Why this series? First, these books are my absolute favorites, I like history (mid-1700’s, especially when in America), and the adventure is pretty exciting as well.
Great response ibeeeg!
Yes, I cannot think of anything at the moment…I do love Kate Atkinson’s books, though, and have read two of the books in your treasure trove above…Not the End of the World is one I’ve missed….
Okay, I’m thinking of a Nancy Thayer novel, called Belonging…the character, Joanna Jones, is a sophisticated hostess of a TV show about fabulous homes…she has everything going for her until a car accident forces her to change her priorities.
Afterwards, she discovers an old Nantucket home and finds she truly belongs in her new world.
OOH I like the ending Laurel….. that would be a place I would like to be. 🙂
To Kill a Mockingbird has always been right up at the top as one of my all-time favorite books! The controversial time period and Boo Radley intrigue me. I would be in the book
from the start…
Thanks very much!
Cindi
Thats fun Cindi – I like the idea of hanging with Scout…a nd seeing what you find in the tree….
Since I could still be alive at the end, I’d go with Hunger Games!
Wow Jill! That is an intense pick! I loved the books but not sure I could handle the games. Good luck Team Jill! 😛
I would have to go with Nancy Drew, one of her early mysteries. Cheesy, I know, but I have great memories of reading Nancy Drew as a kid and I happen to love cozy mysteries. So there you have it!
Kate – I love it! Nancy Drew was a favorite of mine and I would love to find the hidden staircase! 😀
I choose Aurora in Joan Clark’s “Latitudes of Melt” because she’s quirky and also very plucky and independent. Here’s my review of the book, if you are interested:
http://bonniesbooks.blogspot.com/2007/07/latitudes-of-melt.html
Great pick Bonnie!
Well, knowing how it ends I would love to be dropped into Alice in Wonderland! It seems like it would be such a magical experience and would be fun to explore :).
Great pick and a magical experience Colleen.
I would love to be dropped off in the tea party scene of Alice in Wonderland. It is my favorite part!
Oh that would be fun Colleen! Enjoy your tea! 😀
I would choose In the First Circle by Aleksandr Solhenitsyn, so I could witness first hand what he and others experienced (since I did major in the USSR) I would have chosen The Gulag, but I am not that strong. 😉
knittingmomof3 (AT) gmail (DOT) com
That is a good pick Jennifer. You make me really think about which book (non fiction) I would like to experience first hand like that.
I would want to begin at the beginning, how else would I get to know the zeks who work in various departments and stake out a bed away from the blue light.
knittingmomof3 (AT) gmail (DOT) com
I would enjoy being dropped off in an Anne of Green Gables novel. The era, the setting and the characters are all appealing.
Wouldn’t that be a cool era to live in Pearl? I think I can feel myself relaxing just thinking about it. 🙂
An adventure which I would love to experience would be to live during the Italian Renaissance in the book The Glassblower of Murano.
Ellie I love the Renaissance period – what a good pick!
I would like to be dropped into Brenda Whiteside’s SLEEPING WITH THE LIGHTS ON and play it out until the end. I would love to be the heroine Sandra Holiday. After two failed marriages and countless relationships, Sandra thinks she’s met the man to end her years of less than perfect choices; choices that left her single and broke.
Carson Holiday, a Las Vegas country crooner with swoon-inducing good looks, spent his adult life pursuing a recording contract and love, never holding on to either. After eighteen years, Carson Holiday drops back into Sandra’s life, reigniting an attraction they can’t deny. When Carson reappears, Sandra must choose again.
There is a certain scene where I would,as Sandra, like to enter, and follow it all the way through to the end of the book. Here’s the scene:
Pulling me around, we stopped, facing each other. My head said run like hell, but my legs wouldn’t respond. Mushy from wine or Carson and moonlight. I couldn’t be sure which.
“Have lunch with me tomorrow, darlin’.” His fingers slipped from mine to gingerly brush along my forearm. The moonlight caught in his eyes. “Another hour of your time with a long lost friend?”
“Yes.” My voice went all husky and come-hither. I wanted to kick myself for being so easy.
“Good.” Grasping my hand again, he led me toward the door. “What’s the address of your office?”
I struggled to shake off the moon shadows and to remember where I worked. Once inside the building, I took a scrap of paper from my purse and wrote the address.
“I’ll walk you to your door and say goodnight,” he said, tucking the scrap of paper in his pocket. “Unless you want to have me in for a goodnight drink.”
I didn’t answer. If he’d only known the extent of my uncertainty at that moment, a little persistence might have made me cave.
“Okay, then—” His mouth gaped.
I followed his bewildered look to my apartment door.
Just one great scene of many that kept me spell-bound through out the Book.
LOL Rebecca – wasn’t sure where you were going there for a minute…. 😛
How funny – please tell me you typed that from the book and do not know it from memory…. 😀
Of course if you do, you have an amazing memory and I wish I could hold that much information when I am writing reviews! 😀
I did type that from the book, sure not from memory. I just enjoyed reading the book and wanted to let other people know how great the book was.
Thanks!
It sounds like a fun one Rebecca! Thanks for sharing about it! 😀
Congratulations, DARCYO.
I just read the blurbs on these three books. They sound wonderful. As a fan of Inspector Morris and the followup, Inspector Lewis, on Masterpiece Theater, I would really enjoy these books.
I almost said I would like to change places with Elizabeth in PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, but today I am in the mood for a bit more adventure than that. Julie Garwood wrote many good stories taking place in the Highlands of Scotland. I wouldn’t mind changing places with any of her heroines. My favorite, however, is RANSOM. It is the sequel to another good book, THE SECRET. Gillian, the heroine in RANSOM, has courage, compassion, and a sense of purpose and duty. Brodick, the kilted hero, embodies everything you would want in a man of courage, honor and duty. He also has a sense of humor and isn’t above a bit of trickery to get what he wants. I would want to trade places with Gillian for the whole book.
Pat I do like a good adventure read! 😀
What a difficult question. Since I can not say enough good things about The Outlander series I think that I would like to be Claire. I think the only caveat to that would be that I would like to jump in BEFORE the novel even starts. I think that it would be fascinating to live within her modern day marriage before the story begins. I think that if I had this perspective I may understand her desire to stay in the past so much more and would have a better understanding of her relationship and feelings towards Jamie, besides who wouldn’t want to be so close to such a manly hunk of a man, even if it is just in a make believe world. 🙂 This series is a must read! It has a little bit of something for everyone!
Sarah this is a great comment – I like how you said you would like to be in the era even before the novel begins. I am going to have to read these some day. 😀
TRASH looks interesting. I can imagine what it is about. When I was in the Peace Corps, we often discussed how wasteful Americans in general were. There were many families that virtually live at or near the dumps near US military bases. They were able to feed their families and make a living from what was thrown away. Many of them lived better that the poor farmers in the barrios.
I haven’t seen the trailer, so I am making a big guess based on the cover.
I watched the little trailer (45 seconds) this morning Pat. I am cautiously optimistic. While I would like to read a book about the children in the dump because I have been to the dump where people live in Honduras, there is a bit of apprehension that the book may not portray these kids as I see them and I am so protective of that. Hope that makes sense.
I get the Shelf Awareness newsletter as well, and i’ll have to say it’s very good. Lots of news from the publishing world.
If I were going to dropped in the middle of a book, I would have two choices. The first is, The Lord of Rings books. I want to go along with Frodo and Sam on their journey to cast the ring into the fires of Mt. Doone (not sure on the spelling)…
The second, I want to be the heroine in Laura Kinsale’s historical fiction with a magical twist, Uncertain Magic. The scene I envision the most is where they tricked the soldiers into thinking that the Sidhe were cavorting among the ruins of the old home on the hill. I’m of Scottish background and this one really appeals to me…
oh yeah… enter me in the giveaway LOL…
justpeachy36@yahoo.com
Great pick Deb – I wouldnt mind spending a little time in middle earth 😀
I would choose Kushiel’s Dart. I love the world that Carey’s created and think that’s the safest one for me to still thoroughly enjoy every moment of it. 😉
misusedinnocence@aol.com
I am not familiar with this one Emily. 🙂
I would love to be in Jane Porter’s newest She’s Gone Country and right at the start. Darcy, 39 yr. old former top model and just being dumped by dh she decides to move back to Texas.
yourstrulee(at)sasktel(dot)net
I havent read that one Robyn but I have seen good reviews on it.
I would love to be dropped into Summer at Tiffany. What fun to share the experiences with Marjorie and Marty. I would want to be there when they first arrive in New York and stay until their last day at Tiffany.
Happy reading tonight! Maybe you’ll post a picture of your face buried in a book. 🙂
Jill what a great thought! Being in Summer at Tiffanys would be wonderful and what apiece of history!
A pic of me reading would probably be more of a pic of me sleeping 😀
Ah, you hit a sore point for me…I, too, really like the Shelf Awareness newsletter, but they were just piling up in my Inbox and I never found the time to read them, so I finally had to admit defeat and unsubscribe. I just have so much trouble trying to keep up with so much stuff!
But I agree with you completely – it’s a great publication for book lovers!
Sue
I wonder Sue if there is away to set how often you receive the newsletter. I dont subscribe to many things so it is a treat for me to read because it is so well done. I don’t get to it every time it comes in my email box but when I have time for it I am usually pleased with what I read, 🙂
I LOVE Kate Atkinson, love, love, love her. Can’t resist this one since I don’t own hard copies of any of her book and haven’t yet read It’s Not the End of the World.
So, as for your question…
If I could be assured that I’d be home in the end, I’d love to be dropped into the world of Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, perhaps as an apprentice magician. There would be magic, faery, and history all at once!
This is a tough question, so I’m just going to go with the most recent book I’ve read. I’d like to be dropped into Sizzling Sixteen by Janet Evanovich from the beginning. And as for characters, I’d want to be Stephanie Plum when Ranger shows up in this novel.
Susan, meeting Ranger? You probably shouldnt go alone…. it could be dangerous. I will go with you. 😛
Wow, I won the Amazon gift card! Thanks, Sheila!
I’m not sure if you have my e-mail address so I’ll leave it for you here.
dlodden at frontiernet dot net
I do DarcyO, using wordpress I get all your email addresses…. spooky isnt it? 😀
Congrats – I just got home a little bit ago so I will get that out to you. Buy something fun!
Since Deanna and Sarah have already dropped into Outlander as Claire, I just stay home! LOL
No,no,no, Nise’! You must come along for the journey, friends in a strange world is always welcomed. But only remember that *I* am the one who gets the Jamie like man! LOL
I think I am going to have to come along too… as a chaperone for all of you…..LOL
Haven’t read the books but sounds liek I am missing out. 😀
I would love to be in the book series Women’s Murder Club by James Patterson. To be part of the group of women. From beginning to end. not in just the book, but the entire series. I wonder who would have played my character in the short lived tv series…hmmm
Elisha I have not read any of these series, are the women characters in the books the same or do they change?
Giving this some more thought, I’d also like to be dropped into the Betsy Devonshire needlework series by Monica Ferris. I love to do needlework and it would be great to be one of the stitchers who gather in the Crewel World shop to stitch.
Great plan Susan!
I don’t think I could pick just one book. I would have to go with The Hollows/Rachel Morgan series by Kim Harrison. It would be great since Rachel is so awesome and I am so in love with Ivy. lol Jenks would be a lot of fun too.
New books for me Rae but they sound interesting! 😀
I’d like to be in Italian for Beginners by by Kristen Harmel. I’d be transported to Italy with her main character, feel like it’s the sixties and fall in love with the country and the man.
bgcchs(at)yahoo(dot)com
Benita I like the scene you speak of here…. I can almost picture it with the scent of fresh bread in the air.
I’d like to follow from the time she lands in Italy. Her homelife before isn’t something I’d like to be part of.
bgcchs(at)yahoo(dot)com
I would like to be in the lord of the rings from the very beginning.
Cathie I think that would be an awesome book to enter!
Aw, you took mine! I was going to say Harry Potter. 🙂 Maybe Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? I do love chocolate.
Hogwarts is a big school Alyce, there is room for you too! 😛
Wow, that’s a fun one! I think I’d like to be in Rebecca by Daphne DuMaurier .I always wanted to visit Cornwall.
I’d like to enter the story when they hear the ship run aground in the fog.
Kaye – great pick – I can see the ship now! 😀
Harry Potter would be a great adventure!
Great question! This required some hard thinking.
I didn’t want to put myself in any danger. Finally, I have determined that I would jump into most of Anne Tyler’s books, but specifically I’d first choose Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant and second, Saint Maybe.
I’d want to be in Touching Darkness by Scott Westerfeld. I’d prefer to play through the whole book, as the entire thing sounds like a great deal of fun and adventure.
a(dot)long(at)tcu(dot)edu
A book I could jump into literally would be Romeo and Juliet. I could be juliet all day..haha.
