Morning Meanderings…

Here is my text conversation with my son last night:  (True Story)

Son:  There is a message on the bathroom wall(where he goes to college)that says The Chamber Of Secrets is open.

Me:  Sweet.  I am watching the first movie right now.

Son:  I think I am going to re-read all the books.  I am such a nerd.

Me:  I am going to watch all the movies again.  I am such a nerd.

Son:  We are so cool.

Me:  So cool….. we need a secret Potter handshake.

Son:  We’ll work on that soon.

Yes, I know… I really need to get a life.  *sigh*

Minnesota (central Minnesota anyway) is gloomy and rainy today.  Looking out the window this morning I can really say the weather has its “gloom on”.  I have plenty to do without that affecting me.  I am off to the gym this morning for Group Power and then taking a  massive amount of Library books back to the library.  Many of them, sadly – unread.  I will have to try again at a later date.

I have books to mail today for recent winners.  Laundry.  Basic house stuff.

As this is the last day of April (wow right???) I want to remind you that this is the last day to be entered in the April comment contest (every comment left on this blog on non giveaway osts is counted as an entry).  I also have several giveaways ending over the next few days so check them out as well.

Tonight I am doing dinner and a movie with my husband and hoping date Night is still here because I really want to see that with him.  With the rain supposedly lasting through Sunday looks like I will have some indoor reading time 🙂

How about you – any plans tonight or for the weekend?

  1. I so hope you are going to let us other nerds in on that hand shake, a great way to identify each other, don’t you think?

  2. I can’t believe it’s Friday already! I wanted to accomplish so much more this week.

I do believe I will finish the challenge successfully…the one I’m doing on my Creative Moments blog. 50,000 Words in 50 Days. I ended yesterday 1,500 words short of the goal, but the day is young and I am confident.

Then…celebrating some way. I’m going to see what movies are playing. For a couple of weeks, I’ve been wanting to see the new movie with Demi Moore (The Joneses), but the first weekend it was playing, I had my grandson all weekend, and it’s not a movie that’s appropriate for him!

The next weekend, the movie was no longer playing in my neighborhood theater, so I found it a little ways away, but didn’t go. I just love my neighborhood theater best! I’m thinking…wait for the DVD and see something else. So I’ll be searching Fandango today.

I do have two new DVDs to watch…It’s Complicated and Crazy Heart. Saw both movies in the theater and loved them enough to buy the DVDs.

    • Laurel i want to see its complicated. That one looks fun. I am not familiar with the new movie with Demi Moore. I will have to look for that one.

Kick but on the 50,000 word challenge! I know you can (and will) do it! 😀

  3. I’m a nerd too then, since I’m reading all the books right now. LOL!

Have a great day, Sheila! I’m not sure what my weekend will look like, but books will definitely have a lot to do with it! 🙂

    • I agree Aths – books are the word of the weekend. I am home from my first round up town but heading out again shortly to finish errands. After that a little cleaning of the kitchen and then BOOK TIME! Woo hoo! 🙂

      Enjoy your weekend Aths!

  4. It’s so cool that you and your son are so over the moon for Harry Potter. So am I! I hope my sons will adore the books as much as I do when they get old enough to read them…just a couple more years. Who would have thought being a nerd would be so fun, right?!

Enjoy your dinner and movie tonight!

    • Oh Michelle wont it be interesting to see what the next generation thinks of the Harry Potter books? Truly they are the new classics!

I just have to pick where to eat tonight….. 🙂

      Have a good one Michelle!

  5. Sheila, you’re not a nerd. Every Potter lover has to revisit all Potter books or movies on a regular basis. Or they should! I listened to Book #7 again on audio earlier this spring. Loved it.

    • Thanks Kay 🙂

I am looking at my library today for book 3 on audio – otherwise I will read the book 🙂

  6. So cool that you and your son love the same books! While there are several readers in my family, none of us read the same genres so can’t come up with our own secret nerd handshake. 😦

Planning on some Spring Cleaning this weekend, along with some yardwork as the weather is supposed to improve. Going to try listening to an audio book while cleaning, hopefully without stopping in my tracks to just sit and listen. *L*

    Have a great weekend!

    • We dont always agree on genres Alexia – but on the Potter books we do. 🙂

I had yard work plans but looks like rain all weekend so that will have to wait.

Good luck with the audio plan – thats what I do while cooking dinner 🙂

  7. We’re spending the weekend in our new house! We don’t officially move until next week, but we’re going to be doing some touch-up painting and other minor things. Also, my nieces turn 1 so we’re going to their birthday party!

I think it’s hilarious that someone wrote that in the bathroom at your son’s school!

    • Oh fun Amy! Getting a new house ready has to be exciting!

About the bathroom wall – I know right??? And it was so weird because when Justin sent the text he had no idea that I was watching a Harry Potter movie…. it was just funny. 🙂

  8. I love that you and your son relate like that. My son and I are both into sports, which is nice.

I forgot to tell you I commented on 10 blogs for this past Monday’s meme.

I just hate when I have to take library books back without reading them…aaghh!!

    • Hi Lynne 🙂 I know – I do that with movies too…. return them unwatched then rent them again. I think the people working there must think I am a little insane.

I am going to have borrow some of the books again now too…. Gah! 🙂

  9. Texting is one of the best things ever for me as a mom. I text my oldest all the time and vice versa, a simple yet effective way to stay in contact, quick convos, give information, what’s up? stuff, etc. It makes it seem less daunting to me that he is away at college. Almost as if he is still around, in a way. So glad that I have texting, email, skype, and cell phones for my turn in sending off a child to college.

Great convo with your son, love it! These are the type of quick convos I am talking about above.

My weekend always equals work! I work 2-12 hour shifts every weekend, fun stuff! 🙂

    Have a great weekend Sheila.

    • Texting works that way for me too Ibeeeg. Both my boys are out of the house now but I can text any time – and often text a random – I love you just so they know I am thinking of them 🙂

  10. It has finally warmed up again and we’ll have sun until late tomorrow so I’m headed outside. Thanks to the rain I can almost hear the grass growing – and then there are all the weeds in my flower garden, and the trimming I didn’t get to the last time it was nice out, etc., etc. Then I’ll be so tired that I’ll have to sit down and read, won’t I?

    • Barbara my grass is mowing length now. That was on my weekend agenda but now not so sure about that 🙂

I like to mow while listening to audio.

Oh and yes, breaks with a book are a must 😀

  11. At least you like the same nerd things your son likes! My boys are totally into computer gaming and all the offshoots of that. Not at all my cup of tea. We’ve got the same dreary weather here which means that once again the weekend may pass without me getting the outdoor work done that I want done before a graduation party.

    • Oh Lisa that is a bummer about the weather. That sucks when you need to get out there. I have really no sense of urgency here other than the fact that my grass is LONG!

Hope the sun comes out for you!

  12. LOL!!! Love the conversation with your son!!! Are you going to let us in on your secret handshake?!?! 🙂

No big plans this weekend. I need to get caught up on things around the house and I hope to read a LOT!! I need a reading weekend horribly bad!!

    Have a great weekend!!

    • Tif I would love a reading weekend! 🙂 Seems like life gets in the way. 🙂

If all goes well this afternoon I will be able to get in an hour or two on a book I want to read.

      Enjoy your weekend too Tif!

      • Well, I hope you got some good reading time in today and will get more this weekend! Have fun!! 🙂

  13. Your text conversation with your son warmed my heart!! Sounds like something Marc (my youngest) and I would do too!!! It’s currently raining in Michigan. I anticipate lots of quality reading and snoozing!

    • I read a lot and snoozed it yesterday Staci. 🙂 Justin (the College Son) and I have always got along pretty well and have enjoyed sharing a few book titles as well. His older brother Brad and my husband are not readers at all.

Hope you get some good reading in 😀

  14. Had plans, but they have changed as usual. We will be going out to a friend’s house to do some repair work. Her husband died this past winter after a long, and expensive, fight with cancer. Their dog and peacock pens took some damage and there are several dead trees that need to come down before they fall and do damage. Will go out again today to work on the peacock pen for a quick fix and to start making the big repairs. One of the males got out through a hole in the wire yesterday. He flew off into the woods and we never did find him. There is so much that needs to be done and his illness took what little money they had.

    • Pat – how nice you are able to help your friend. I bet she really appreciates it. Enjoy your weekend!

  15. I’m so nerdy I dream of having a text conversation like this with my son someday.
