First Book Of The Year 2016

1st a

Every year I get excited about what will be that first book I will be chatting about going into the new year.  I make a big deal out of picking the book.  It is usually a book I have wanted to read for a while and for whatever reason, I just have not been able to find the time to read it.

This is the third year I am hosting this event and this year, it is all the more important to me.  It was a year ago today that I put out last years request. I would love for you to join me in this tradition of picking the book that you will be reading into the new year.  It can be a coveted book that you have been waiting to read, a guilty pleasure book, a re-read of a favorite that you want to explore once again… whatever you want.

Our posts of what we are reading will go live on January 1st.  You do not need to be done with the book on January 1st, just reading it on January 1st and yes, you can start on the 31st and be reading into the New Year.  I would like to link up all your posts here on the 1st as well so others can visit you and cheer you on!  If you are interested, please fill out the short form below.

Here are the fun collages I did with last year’s participants:

I have not had the best blog presence the past 7+ months.  Please help me spread the word of this event by chatting it up on your blogs, Twitter (link under post to do this easily), Facebook, and wherever else you like to chat. 🙂  I would love for this to be another great year of reading into the New Year.

  1. So excited that you are getting back into your book life. You have been in my thoughts and prayers constantly, dear friend! I’m excited about the upcoming year – now to pick a book… hmmm, what shall I read, what shall I read! Much love and Merry Christmas!!!

  2. Hi Shelia. I don’t know if my submission went through? I tried the first time and when clicking the button, nothing happened. Tried another. Sorry for the multiples.
I can’t believe this is coming around again! Last year I really knew what I wanted to read on the first of January. This year I need to ponder a bit. It will be fun.

  3. Awesome, I love this post and have really enjoyed it both years. Will put a note about it in the It’s Monday meme too. Excited to make the big decision about what I’ll choose to read!

  4. I suspect I will be reading one of the Ferrante books – the number will depend on how much I read between Christmas & NYE!

So glad you’re hosting this again. This meme has a lovely community spirit 🙂

  5. Oh, my! It’s that time of year again? Already? lol…I must now give this some thought as to which one. For months I’ve been having trouble picking “which book is next” each time I finish one. This may be a struggle, but I’ll be “in,” Sheila!

  6. Happy to be participating for the first time 🙂 and now facing the impossible situation of choosing ONE book to be THE ONE BOOK. Oh boy.

  7. oh yay, so glad you’re doing it again Sheila, such fun. I’ll share next week and try and decide what book I’ll be reading 🙂

  8. I am exited to be a part of this ,Sheila. The book I chose I have been trying to read to the end for years. It’s a good book and I will start AGAIN at page 1 on 1/1/16. Now I ace to dig though my books and find it and send you the picture!!! And I will finish it this time- it’s my New Years resolution!!

  9. Sounds great ! Last year was my first time joining in and I loved having a post all set up and ready to go for New Year’s Day! I received the Neapolitan Quartet for my birthday, so I’ll be diving into the second book on January 1. Thank you!

  10. I just love this! Thanks for hosting this great event once more! It is so much fun thinking about that first book of the year and I love finding out what other people have picked out too!

  11. Great idea, Sheila! I should be done with the book I’m reading now by New Year’s Eve so it will be a perfect time to start my next book (and see what other great books readers have chosen!)

  12. Hi Sheila! This will be my first year doing this! Hopefully I will get back to reading in the new year. I’ve missed it!

  13. Went through my book shelves today… not in the mood for any of those TBR. Maybe I will hit the library tomorrow, see what they have. I’m not really in the mood for anything specific right now, it will be a lucky find, maybe something fun.

  14. I was reading Best Boy by Eli Gottlieb. Sorry I did not leave comment yesterday. Was holding off putting up post hoping to get a picture but my picture taker is the same device as my reader: Nexus 7 and my sister with her cell was unavailable

Hmmmm... what do you think?
