Morning Meanderings….

a big improvementI think at this point I need to start documenting how far I have got on my lists to do before I leave Friday afternoon.  Coffee Cup and I have made lists (large post it notes stuck to the kitchen counter of lists to pack, to do, and to buy….

Lets see….

Suitcase packed:  2%

Malaria Prescription picked up:  0%

To do list before I go:  45%

I will get there… I work well under pressure 🙂

So… today briefly I want to talk about book covers – I just love them!  I f I could figure out a way to use the covers as framed prints in my reading room without destroying the books, I would.  I think that would be fun to have them all hanging up – my favorite covers.

As I blog hopped the other day I found a new (to me anyway) blog called Jacket Whys.  I somehow linked to this blog by finding the post on the Best Jacket Covers of 2008.  I loved the one they featured called Triskellion.  I had not heard of this book but I wont forget it now because of that cover!  If you have a minute click on over to Jacket Whys and see this blog.

Have you seen this one for Wild Things?  (yeah – it is fur covered…. I dont think I like this one…. )

wild thingsHow about this one for Shadowlands:  The Immortal?

aOr this one called Gateway?

When you think covers… what one comes to mind for you as a great cover?

Morning Meanderings….

I feel completely relaxed for a person who is about to venture into a pretty heavy office day.  We are switching data a big improvementmanagement software at Church and I am going to help review records and make sure everything transferred the way it was suppose to – all the names, info, etc… we have 24 hours to find any corrections that this new company will fix – after that we sign off on it tomorrow and anything beyond that is ours to fix.  I am hopeful that things look just lovely today and it wont be a large project.

Other than that, my day isn’t too bad.  I do no hopping around the blogesphere last night.  None.  Nada.  In fact I didnt turn my computer back on after 5 pm.  I was tired from the root canal thing and I am so deeply into this book The Help by Kathryn Stockett that I read it most of the evening.  There truly are days when I know I am too tired to look at a computer screen… heck, there are days I know my eyes are too tired to read.  Ever get that way?

Tonight I hope to catch up on the computer end – do some blog surfing (ahhhh… surfing would be great!) and write my posts for next week.  Leave me a note here and I will be sure to stop your way later today.  🙂

Have a great Tuesday everyone!

Morning Meanderings….

a big improvementI only have a short time this morning as I have a dentist appointment.  Ugh!  I know right?  I have to have it looked at before I head to Honduras on Friday as I really do not want to have any “tooth like” issues while in Honduras.  I am holding my breath here that Al (hubby) will still  be able to go.  The weather here has been rainy and miserable and that has put him behind on the jobs ( we have an excavating company).  I told him I had to know by this morning as I have to call in any changes to the lady we work wit on our trip planning.

When I am home today I am working on The Word Shaker on line Book Club review of The Help by Katherine Stockett.  As the responses have come in I have held off on reading them as I am still enjoying the book and will finish up with it today. This is going to be a review that you are not going to want to miss!

What book have you read lately that has been the “dont miss review” for you?

Morning Meandering…

a big improvementUp most the night with the Read A Thon and so not sure it really feels like morning.  🙂  The Read A Thon was a lot of fun and I had many visitors that were new who i will have to visit in the next couple of days and see their blogs as well.  I am tired…. and will probably go lay down and take fulla dvantage of the 30 minutes I can rest before I really need to be up and moving.

Thanks everyone who put work and effort into the Read A Thon… for my first one it was a blast and it fun to see how things were done.  I finished 4 books and am currently reading The Help which is where I had planned to end up.  I have receiws to write yet and a great one going live today so watch for it!

Have a great day everyone….. and g night to me for at least 30 minutes… maybe 45….

Morning Meanderings…

a big improvementI shouldn’t be here….

We have a huge project at work today and we were all going in early to get a jump start on it.  Yet here I am with Coffee Cup, still in PJ’s trying to get through emails this morning before I go in.

So what can I share today?  Well… I think I had some interesting spam overnight.  New stuff that actually were comments that almost made sense… but didn’t make sense you know what I mean?  I had a few of them that were actual sentences but they didn’t fit the post and that is how I caught them.  They were:

“So chickens have nothing to do with financial downturn”.    (On my Featured Book Club post of the Bookies)chicken

My thoughts:  “Uhhhh….. no.  I dont think chickens effect finances either way.  Have an egg.  relax”.

“I can remember being bored stiff until it was my turn to get behind the camera”  (On my guest post of Sold)

My Thoughts:  “Maybe you wouldnt be so bored if you had a hobby – or a pet.  Maybe a chicken”.

I don’t really get spam.  I mean, does it actually work?  All of mine go into a spam folder that I have to approve so they never actually touch my blog and they never make enough sense to fool me into thinking they are actually comments…. although these two above did have me looking at my posts and going “huh?”

Have a delightful spam free day everyone!

Morning Meanderings…

Ahhhh… the email.  It can be dangerous.  🙂

I am sure I have given my take on the Kindle in the past.  In fact.  I know I have.  I like a book…. I like the feel, the shape, and the smell.  I like to see them all pretty and colorful on book shelves.  I scoffed at poor Jodi in my book club who had went to a Kindle.  I would go down arguing pro books on this issue in a pile of beautiful hardcovers… but I would go down fighting.

Yup.  That’s my take.

Then in my email…. comes the nook.  What is this?  It is slim…. it actually kind of of looking…. if you go for sleek, easy to pull out in a moments notice, information at your fingertips day or night…

Its like the hot looking bad boy…

of books.

While I LOVE LnookOVE LOVE my reading room,  while I always know I will favor a “book book” over an e book….

I have to admit I am having visions of boarding planes without lugging 5 or 6 heavy books along.  Visions of being stuck in traffic and able to take this little baby out of my purse and read a bit without people freaking out because I am that crazy girl behind the wheel of a car reading a book… again.  I am also having visions of blow drying my hair without having to prop my book open with the squeeze bottle of hair product to hold my place….

Oh…. I think I may be crushing on the nook.

What are your thoughts on this topic?  To e read or not e read…. that is the question?

Morning Meanderings….

Some days… morning comes to soon.

This is one of those mornings. It was pitch black outside when I woke up this morning at 7 am.  Honestly I think the only think that made me move was knowing that Coffee Cup was waiting for me. 🙂  So I got up and tried to think of something witty for this mornings post.  And…

Nothing.

Nada.

I am coming up empty here….

Thank goodness for book topics!  I will never run out of things to talk about with books.  One of my first favorite authors… Oh, let me define what favorite author means to me:

Favorite Author (as defined in DeChantal’s Dictionary):  An author who’s books can not – will not, no way, no how, be missed…. having waited months for said book to come out it is quickly devoured and then mourned as it is over and now the reader is left hungry for more and chasing down tips on Google as to when the next book will be out and why oh why can they not write faster??????

Ok.  That said…. one of those authors for me started in my teen years and that was Dean Koontz.  The man – could write no wrong.  (Until he did – but that’s another story).  And today as I am picking my brain for a fun topic and at the same time knowing I am in an odd caffeine stimulated mood…. I find out Dean Koontz does have a book coming out soon, and here it is:

breathlessIsn’t it beautiful?  The thing is that even though Dean Koontz was one of my first favorites… as years have gone by and my reading palate has grown to crave the taste of so many different genres, so many different authors, that now I could not choose a favorite.  Of course… my hearts till skips a beat when I see a book such as Breathless and know that there is a pretty good chance that there is a spectacular story between the hard cover binding.

I looked at this book this morning and while it is not being released until November 24, it is currently marked at $9.00.  WHAT????  Needless to say I have preordered to lock in that price and I keep looking at it thinking I am missing something to explain this low price…

So how about you?  Do you have any favorite authors or once favorite authors that you never miss(ed) a book?

Morning Meanderings….

Yesterday was a relaxing day.  I am dealing with an abscessed tooth until I can get into the dentist (hopefully today!)  I a big improvementwas back from the Women of Faith Conference in ST Paul and wiped out from the weekend of tooth pain and the conference itself.  I am a person who recharges my batteries by being alone – events with lots of people and action exhausts me and alone time was just what I needed.

Other than a bit of laundry and some cooking, I pretty much just read a little bit and caught up on my blog hopping a lot.  So today I want to show you the links to the books I seen while traveling the blogesphere that I now want to add to my wish list….

Over at My Fluttering Heart, I was looking to see what Aimee received in her mailbox last week.  AT first I seen a Philippa Gregory book that she had posted about but then… below that was the book that stopped me.  Lady of The Butterflies by Fiona Mountain looks wonderful!  What a great cover! I have linked the post here so click your way over to Aimee’s blog and see this book for yourself.  It is going under the Wishes Tab for me!

ladyofthebutterflies

Then I was visiting over at Rebecca’s Blog, Everything To Do With Books and seen Libyrinth by Pearl North a fascinating sounding book and another gorgeous cover!.  But – that’s not all…. in this same In My Mailbox post Rebecca also had a book called The Crossing by Mandy Hager that I dont know if I would call cover love, but the cover certainly caused me pause and then reading about the book… well we can add two more books to my Wishes Tab.  Pop over and see Everything To Do With Books… you may just find something for your wish list as well!  🙂

Then as I hopped around the blogesphere I landed at Maw Books where Natasha shared a book that is drop dead gorgeous – inside and outside!  Climbing The Stairs by Padma Venkatraman caught my eye with the wonderful cover, but it was the story inside that Natasha touches on that sold me.   This is another one I encourage you to check out.  And yes, this too is heading on to my Wishes Tab.

So as Coffee Cup and I start our day today I am adding these books to the Wishes Tab and feeling pretty good (besides the tooth – but I am on codeine so even that is mild).  I swear I think it is the weather that makes me so book hungry.  Looking out my window it is another cold dreary morning here in Minnesota.  Overcast skies in that depressing grayish color that kind of hangs on throughout the next 5 months… yeah, I think that is why I crave to read and go the places the books take me – to hopefully sunny skies and warmer areas of the world with characters that warm my heart.

Morning Meanderings…

I returned late last night from the Women of Faith Conference.  We had a great time despite the fact that I was on 800 milligrams on Ibuprofen the entire weekend.  Seems that I have an abscessed tooth and it started hurting Thursday after we left from the conference and continued to get worse throughout the weekend.  Thank goodness my wonderful dentist was able to line up a prescription for me from where we are at until I can get into him  on Monday.

Once I was all medicated (ha ha) I could jam with the rest of them!  We had a blast listening to Marilyn Meberg, Patsy Clairmont, Anita Renfroe, Lisa Welcehell, (yes – Blair from the Facts of Life), Sheila Walsh, Lisa harper and yeah Steven Curtis Chapman and Nicole C Mullen rocked the house!

And oh yes, I did come home with three new books!  These I will share with you In My Mailbox post today.  I even was able to get a bit of reading done so my review of 9 Dragons will also go up today as well as a few others I need to catch up throughout this week.
