Morning Meandering…

It feels like fall here in Central Minnesota this morning.  Last night was so warm I was popping a big improvementwindows open just to sleep but this morning the air has turned crisp and I woke up chilled, running around closing those same windows.

Ahhhh…. Minnesota.

I let the dogs out and the chill came in from the deck.  Yesterday started a drastic drop of the acorns.  We have a large oak tree built into our deck.  We actually built the deck around the tree as I love trees and could not see sacrificing it just because we wanted a bigger deck.  All day yesterday I could hear the acorns thumping as they bounced off the wood and this morning the deck is covered.  Al tells me that is a sign of a cold winter.  Oh man… I hope not.

Fall means things should (I hope) slow down a bit.  The evenings will be cooler and while I haven’t had much time for hanging outside this year anyway, I will be drawn to my cozy reading chair more often… visions of the Challenges that I need to work on – Random reading, Jane Austen, Harry Potter…. dance in my head.

I guess I am saying that this morning I meandered…. to my deck.

Later today I am posting my 100th book review.  100!  Watch for that because if you know me – moments like this do not go by uncelebrated… oh yeah – there will be a giveaway!

CSN Bookshelf Review

The CSN Bookshelf that was offered to me for review arrived last Thursday.  This afternoon I finally had time to put it together and try it out!

I have put together many bookshelves in my life and had interesting results after sometimes hours of figuring out the directions.  I was thrilled to see that this shelf was not in too many pieces and I easily put it together in 15 minutes.  Love the color and it looks wonderful in the reading room!  Check out CSN Office Furniture for your furniture needs!  They have free shipping on almost everything.

It’s Monday… What Are You Reading?

Monday what are you readingThis is the fun meme from J Kaye’s Book Blog.  I am currently finishing up Stray Affections by Charlene Ann Baumbich.  I am on tour with this book later this week.

I have a busy week with book club tomorrow evening (BONFIRE  POTLUCK – OH YEAH!) as we review the wonderful Pope Joan by Donna Woolfolk Cross.  I work all week and this weekend is the 150 mile 2 day bike ride I am doing with my cousin.  With all this, I am keeping my reading plans for the week a little low as I am not sure when I am going to fit a lot of reading in.

Here is my tiny TBR for the week.

  • NORTH!  Or Be Eaten is a book I have held off reading as I have waited for the tour to come up and like a book to be fresh in my mind.  I have a giveaway coming with this review as well!
  • Dreaming Anastasia is also a blog tour coming up
  • The Sister Pact I received from the author and that is my bonus book this week that I hope I get to!  I am anxious to read this one as well!

Over the weekend when Al and I traveled NORTH!  (Not to be eaten – but to go to our cabin….LOL) we started listening to the book on CD of Green by Ted Decker, his newest which while it is a prequel to The Circle Trilogy, (which I have two of the three of these books and have not read them – Black, red, White) I was told that this one was actually encouraged to be read first if you had not read the others yet as it is the begining and the end.  Hmmmm….. interesting.

However riding in the jeep is loud and it was a struggle to follow this deep book on audio and as it switches between worlds by the end of CD two, Al and I had switched it up for James Patterson’s Swimsuit which I have to admit, is much better than I thought it was going to be and I am actually anjoying it!

There it is.  The plan for the week.  If you would like to be a part of this weekly meme, create your own post of what you are reading and be sure to link it back to J Kaye’s Book Blog.

I arrived back home this afternoon and then had a 50th wedding anniversary for my aunt and uncle, followed by a bonfire with friends.  I am exhausted – but excited to share with you the great reads I completed this weekend and what arrived in my mailbox this past week.

All of this will have to wait until Monday as I am so tired out!  Lots of info coming your way – this should be a great week!  Come back often!  🙂

Morning Meandering….

Coffee cup and I are always up for a good read.  Recently I was visiting several of my blogging friends and was stopped short at My Book Buddies when I seen this book that is on my wish list.  Rooftops of Tehran appeals to me.  I love the cover. the title makes me envision starry nights and people seeking the roof tops for a variety of reasons…

Don’t take my word for it – stop over to My Book Buddies and see this book for yourself.  This is one I really can not wait to have a change to read.

I am out of town until late on Sunday… I am “Sheila unplugged” for the weekend at our cabin, however this leaves a great opportunity for reading time!  🙂  I will catch up with responding to comments upon my return!

Weekend to Cabin…

** This is a sticky post – meaning this post will stay on top for weekend but new posts will be below!  🙂

We are finally catching  a little break and Al and I are heading to our cabin on the North Shore for the weekend.  While I will be taking my lap top (I am like Linus and the lap top is my security blanket) I do not believe I will have access to the internet unless I actively seek it out!  That being said, you can see here that I am reading ready – even though I have a book case full of unread books at the cabin.

What I am taking with amounts to two blog tour reads for next week, a book on Minnesota, and a couple bonus books!  🙂

While I am away I still have posts prepped to come out throughout the weekend so stop by!  I have a book review, morning meanderings and more!

I will be home later Sunday to post In My Mailbox and on Monday we will tackle the CNN bookshelf!  Yeah!

What are your plans for the weekend?

♥Have a safe and happy weekend everyone! ♥

Word Verification Balderdash (the Thursday Thing)

balderdashThis is the weekly meme where I encourage anyone who wishes to play along to take those crazy word verifications they have had over the past week and create a fake definition for them (much like how you play the board game Balderdash).  This is all in fun and makes commenting on blogs a bit more interesting when the verification may just give you the best definition of the week!  See original post here.

So here is what I have:

seend: When you hit the send button on an email and it takes forever (forever being 5 seconds as opposed to the 1 second we are used to)

“I am so sorry Mrs. Johnson that you have not received that email… it is still in seend mode.”

Mythman: Much like Super Man but this dude creates Myths… and he has a better tan.  🙂

“A long long time ago up in the mountains of Alaska there lives a creature, at least according to Mythman….”

Catera:  Equal rights for cats.

Mittens now eats off china dishes and always gets first pick of the fish dinner because of  the Catera.

relicat:  a cat that you know darn well has used up more than its nine lives yet haggard looking, and missing one eye, it still keeps on going!

(And my personal fav of the week)

Purexeo:  A spell used used by Harry Potter to get his shirts their whitest!

I would love to see what you come up with!  To do your own, simply grab the picture meme and add it to your own post.  Link back to this post and leave a comment here letting my know you have and I will add your blog post to this one so people may see other participants.  Let the fun begin!  :)

Awards to post…

I have done what I said I wouldn’t do… I have again received a few awards that I have let sit in the corner and gather dust.  So tonight I am trying to do a bit of blog catch up (all the things I have wanted to, needed to, catch up on but just have not had the time.

I am posting these awards tonight and will add who I will pass these on to in the upcoming week.

superior_scribbler_awardLook what Melissa from My World send my way!

The Superior Scribbler Award is a Scholastic Scribe Original!

How sweet is she?  Have you seen her blog?  She has some great books that she has reviewed – I recommend you check them out!

proxaward

That wonderful Ryan over at Wordsmithonia has sent me this wonderful award.

Being a recipient of this award affirms that this blog invests and believes in the Proximity – nearness in space, time and relationships. This blog receives this great award as a further way to reiterate that it is exceedingly charming, and aims to find and be friends. They are not interested in prizes or self-aggrandizement! Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers!

Ryans blog always has something wonderful on it and watch for his post tomorrow morning (Thursday) for word verification Balderdash.  He really cracks me up!

top commentorThis new to me award came from the amazing Rachel of Bookworm Wannabe.

This award goes out to those who you can count on for a comment.  They not only visit often but they comment often and make your blog exciting with great points of interest!

Rachel has a good variety of book reviews and a fun blog!  Stop over and see what she is all about!

The “Me To You” award was also passed on to me from Rachel at Bookworm Wannabe.

This award is a friendly thank you to those who make my blog feel warm and fuzzy like a teddy bear.  I am so thankful for the contributions of these people!

What a super cool chick Rachel is!  🙂

I plan to pass these on after the weekend.  I have a crazy busy day tomorrow and the Super Hero (hubby) is anxious for us to get on the road and go to our cabin.  He wants to leave tomorrow evening and I was hoping for Friday at noon so I would have time to finish up on some stuff…. I guess we will see.  🙂

Question to Bloggers…

I was just having a conversation on Twitter about how we as bloggers keep track of our books as theyBook question come in, blog tours…. what we sign up for, etc…

As I have become more involved in blogging these past few months I have realized that I really need to keep track of the books and where they come from (they don’t always come with paper work!) as well as blog tours, giveaways, etc…

Currently I am using an agenda book where I record all book related things…. but chatting with Jamie, from Revenge of the Book Nerds on Twitter, she is using Google calendar and I bet that works pretty slick.

What do you use to keep track of your book happenings?

Its Monday – What are you Reading?

Well… this morning I am still on Alvor…. loving it but with busy commitments I just havent had the time to really sit Monday what are you readingdown and read it through…. hopefully today is the day and I have a bit of time blocked off this afternoon for just this book!

I have a few others waiting for me that I can not wait to dig into!  The Sign For Drowning is one I have been looking forward to…

When she was a child, Anna stood at the water’s edge beside her mother, both of them helplessly frozen as they watched an ocean wave capsize the boat carrying Anna’s younger sister, Megan. In that singular, life-changing instant, Anna envisioned Megan fighting off “monsoon rains with every turn of her neck. Earthquakes broke fault lines with each kick of her leg. Every thrashing of her arms brought forest fires somewhere. Opening her mouth caused volcanoes to erupt. In this way, she left us.”

Sounds great huh?

When The Sun Goes Down came in quite a while ago and I really need to get this one read.  This book is a bit different and is actually about planning your funeral – and no, I am not in a  hurry that I know of -LOL.  I believe I have many good years left.  I think I chose this in my early book blog days when I was still at that “let me review all books!” stage!  Well -we will see… it may surprise me.

Stray Affections is on for a blog tour next week that I would love to get read this week.

The last thing that Cassand002ra Higgins expects out of her Sunday is to be mesmerized at a collectors convention by a snowglobe. Shes enjoying some mommy time, with husband Ken at home tending their brood of four young boys, when shes utterly charmed by the one-of-a kind globe containing figures of three dogs and a little girl with hair the color of her own. She cant resist taking the unique globe home even if means wrestling another shopper for it!

We (Al and I) are on track this weekend to head to our cabin up North and I will be taking Bran Hambric with me for the drive.  I have no internet reception there and a weekend “unplugged” means more reading time! 🙂

It’s Monday, What Are You Reading?  (This meme comes from J Kayes Blog – be sure to pop over and see what she is reading as well as what many others are reading this week.  You can add your list to her Mr Linky!)
