My Lost Daughter by Nancy Thayer Rosenberg – Hard Cover Giveaway!

Lily Forrester is a tough Ventura County judge who has overcome adversity and heartache to get to a place where she can help those who can’t help themselves. She’s put all of her passion and energy into this cause and has no regrets. That is, until she receives word that her daughter Shana, who is attending law school hundreds of miles away, seems to be having a nervous breakdown.

Feeling guilty at what she sees as a failure in her duty as a mother, Lily rushes to Shana’s side. With a major murder trial underway in her court, Lily faces an agonizing choice: stay with Shana — and possibly see a killer go free due to a mistrial — or return to work and possibly sacrifice her daughter’s sanity. In a desperate balancing act, Lily takes Shana to a supposedly prestigious treatment facility for help.

Unfortunately for the two women, the institution is far less interested in treating patients than it is in bilking insurance companies out of extravagant feesĶ and the staff is less than scrupulous about patients’ rights. After being stonewalled for weeks, Lilly discovers that Shana has been threatened by sadistic so-called caregivers, given mind-deadening drugs without consent, and held for hours in a tiny, bare cell without food or water. Lily will have to use all her knowledge of the law to find a way to free Shana. Lily does not know that Shana faces another danger — one that isn’t institutional. A sociopath is in hiding at the hospital, using the organization’s criminal activities for his own purposes. And Shana is his new obsession.

Immanuel’s Veins by Ted Dekker w/ a fun giveaway

THIS STORY IS FOR EVERYONE

BUT NOT EVERYONE IS FOR THIS STORY

It is a dangerous tale of times past. A torrid love story full of deep seduction. A story of terrible longing and bold sacrifice.

Then as now, evil begins its courtship cloaked in light. And the heart embraces what it should flee. Forgetting it once had a truer lover.

With a kiss, evil will ravage body, soul, and mind. Yet there remains hope, because the heart knows no bounds.

Love will prove greater than lust. Sacrifice will overcome seduction. And blood will flow.

Because the battle for the heart is always violently opposed. For those desperate to drink deep from this fountain of life, enter.

But remember, not everyone is for this story.

I have enjoyed Ted Dekker off and on through the years.  Some I have really enjoyed and others I have been left scratching my head (don’t even get me started on House).  If you watched the book trailer and got a little sense of “Twilight”, that would be accurate.  And before those of you who did not enjoy the Twilight series turn away from this review I am going to ask you to give me a minute…

or two.

Yes, while there is a “Twilightish” vibe in the background theme of this book, this book goes beyond to a darker book then Meyer’s wrote which is truly Ted Dekker’s signature style.  The character’s are on fire with life breathed into them by non other than the master of Christian Suspense writing, Ted Dekker.  The book will cause you to really think about sacrificial love and that is really what this book is about.

I am still processing all I read and I can safely say that this is one of the best books I have read by Ted Dekker in quite a while.  Ted tapped into a vein (yes, pun intended) that I think will entice readers of many genres to this book.

GIVEAWAY!

Check out this awesome t-shirt that came with the book!  Here is how you can win one for yourself!  Let me know here in a comment if you have ever read Ted Dekker and if so what book(s).  If you have not, please look at the books he has written and share with me in a comment which book you would consider reading.

Bonus Entry

For two bonus chances to win a shirt, subscribe to my posts through email (link is upper right sidebar) and let me know here that you did (or do) in a separate comment.

Blog, Facebook, or Tweet about this giveaway and let me know in a comment here and receive another chance

That’s it!  😀

Giveaway will end on September 25, 2010

Summer At Tiffany by Marjorie Hart- Hard Cover Signed Copy Giveaway

The lovely and delightful Marjorie Hart has offered one lucky Book Journey reader a signed copy of her wonderful book Summer At Tiffany.  You can read my review as well as see others who linked their reviews and see what an amazing read this is.

Although the country is still at war, Manhattan during the summer of 1945 is an intoxicating place, especially for two fresh-faced young coeds who step off a train from Iowa armed with little more than their youthful exuberance and the name of a very influential contact. The combination is enough to land Marjorie and her best friend, Marty, jobs as pages at the prestigious Tiffany & Co., making them the first female employees ever to work the sales floor. From this groundbreaking vantage point, the girls see and do it all, from assisting notorious gangsters and international playboys at the jewelry counters, to rubbing elbows with celebrities at the city’s legendary nightclubs, to glimpsing General Eisenhower during his triumphant victory parade, to kissing soldiers in Times Square on V-J Day

Here’s how to enter this giveaway!

Choose (and WIN!) The Next Book I Read

It is time for round four of “Choose The Next Book I Read!”   For those who are new to this occasional post, I will explain what this is.

I LOVE book sales and our local library has a spring and a fall one that are wonderfully priced books that I can not resist.  The books are beautiful and gently used.  The opportunity lies in the fact that once I bring these treasures home they tend to stay in the box I placed them in when I purchased them for months to come.  This is where you come in.

What I am posting here is the pictures of all the books I have picked up from the spring library sale as well as the new additions of the books I purchased last weekend at the Silver Bay Minnesota Library sale.

All you do is look over these titles and leave a comment here with the name of the book you would like to win.  On Sunday morning, August 15, I will use random.org to choose a winner.  Then that book will go with me this weekend to be read and once read I mail it on to the winner.  It is a win – win!  I actually read one of the treasures that I bought, and you get a book that you would like!  :D

So here my little beauties are – have fun picking!

** Note:  In the following pictures Between Friends is no longer available as that was last months win that is on its way to Elisha this week!

Note #2:  I will read the winning book at my earliest possibility and then send it on.

There’s the choices.  In your comment below please put which of these books you would like me to read and then pass on to you.

**USA and Canada only please unless the winner can give me an address to send it to in one of these areas.  Sorry but the cost to ship beyond that is frightening.
