Dewey’s Read-A-Thon (late entry) Participant For Charity

Happy Dewey’s Read A Thon!

I did not decide until last night that I was doing this so hang on while I catch up. 🙂  I had a conflict today – a run actually that was going to keep me from this, however poor weather in the area stunted my training for this one, and it was supposed to be cold and rainy today so my friend and I had made the decision not to do the run.

And of course… it is sunny and not a cloud in the sky.

But no matter!  Once I wrapped my head around the idea of doing the read-a-thon, I became really excited.  I usually participate with helping with the mini challenges, or hosting, or cheer leading or a combo of all I just mentioned… and due to my lack of commitment… I get to just participate.

YIPPY!

I kind of feel like Katniss today.

Anyhoo…

I did mention I was reading today for Charity.  There are a few charities I connect with through the year and this time of year I am usually raising funds for the MS 150 mile bike ride I participate in this June.  I ride with a group that raises money for MS.  If you look at my support page you can read more about it.

My personal contribution I will make to this cause today is:

$1.00 for every 10 pages read

$1.00 for every 10 minutes of audio listened to

A bonus $5 per each book finished

Every comment on a Dewey post today (here) I will add 25 cents to the total.

I would LOVE your support on this reading day for MS.  If you feel called to contribute to this cause, please go to this page and click on donate.  I appreciate your consideration, and each person who donates to me through this read-a-thon will go into a drawing for one of the following books (your choice):

1

I will announce final totals for reading and for contribution to MS through this read-a-thon in the morning.

Here are the official kick off questions.  All other updates and mini challenges I participate in will be in the post below this one for the rest of the day.

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?

Brainerd Minnesota!

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?

Hmmmm….. since I just made the decision last night to participate, I relaly do not have a stack… I do hope to tackle today the end of Jane Eyre which is a book I started over a year ago and have not returned to yet.

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?

Again, I am a poor preparer so at some point today I will have to run to the store, while listening to audio of course. 🙂

4) Tell us a little something about yourself!

I have blogged about books here at Book Journey since June of 2009.  I am an avid reader, biker, rollerblader, and want to be runner. I LOVE hanging out with family and friends and being a part of whatever is new exciting and a little bit crazy.

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?

I am hoping to get in some good reading time!  I usually get distracted my the mini challenges and all the fun and I like to visit other participants too but I am going to try to stay in the books today…

Carpe book people.  Carpe book.

All other updates and mini challenges I participate in will be in the post below this one for the rest of the day.

  1. Yay for a surprise chance to join the Readathon after all! I’m not reading in an official capacity today, but I’m looking forward to getting in some good cheerleading, what with none of this silly reading to distract me. Did I say “silly reading”? I mean AWESOME reading, of course. Read a book for me and have a great Readathon day!! #teamrogue (because I’m a late joiner, too, LOL!)

    1. I have yet to read – I have been listening to audio all morning while I made breakfast, cleaned the book room (and chose my books) and participated in challenges 🙂 Soon though I am putting the laptop down and digging into my first read 🙂

  2. I am not participating because Saturdays are kid sports days in my world, but I am enjoying checking in with people this morning while I have a few minutes of free time. I had a different book blog back in 2008 when Dewey was still with us, and I remember her fondly. Happy reading!!

  3. Hi hi! How are you enjoying the readthon? It’s kind that you’re doing this for charity, I hope many people comment on your blog and you get loads of reading done! 🙂 I’ll be sure to share your post on tumblr. I can’t read this year, I’ve got finals but so far I’ve been quite distracted with cheering and commenting. It’s kind of liberating to just focus on visiting sites though I do miss talking about books I’m reading. I hope you have a lot of fun. #TeamMarquez

  4. I volunteer as readathon tribute! The MS charity bike ride sounds like a great cause- hope you raise mucho bucks today! And happy readathoning 🙂

  5. Good luck to you!! I’ve read for charity in the past, but I just wasn’t on top of things enough this year. But what a great cause – I’ve done a number of Bike MS rides and I’m happy to support the effort.

  6. I wish I could participate but alas I am working today and then I have our Friends of the Library fundraiser tonight so no time for reading. Maybe I’ll be able to participate in the next one.

I hope you have a great read-a-thon and meet your goals!

Hmmmm... what do you think?
