Not going to lie… I am kind of excited ๐
Our Library offers an occasional opportunity to City Board Members and Friends Board Members to get a real taste of what it is like to work at the library.ย These LUCKY people will work behind the circulation desk assisting in checking out books, answering questions about library cards, and talking books.ย AND if they choose, they will also have an opportunity to work at the reference desk, researching questions that come up about books.
EGADS, does that not sound like fun?ย ๐
My shift starts today at 2 pm.ย Do you have any idea how long I have wanted to be behind that counter?ย I mean…. ummmm…. yeah, it might be great.
๐ณ
If you are in the area stop in and see me ๐
As for the rest of my day – I am home tonight, starting my running training program late afternoon and then moving on to a book this evening.ย Should be a wonderful day. ๐
Does your local library offer opportunities for you to work or volunteer there?

Lol i love your reaction to being behind the counter. I secretly felt that way when I had the honor of filling in for our librarian for a few hours recently. It was so much fun. It was fun to use the scanner, but I really wanted to stamp a book. Lol
I love trying new things and I learned quite a bit – how to check in a new book to the system, looking up books for others, how to save a binding on paperbacks…
I would so be there with some inane question if I lived near you. Have fun today!
LOL – that would have been great! ๐
It sounds as though you are fulfilling a long time dream? Have fun!
Next time.. I am so dressing the part… ๐
Have fun, though some day it can be almost hellish.
I bet – I only had an hour shift but I would have liked to have stayed longer. ๐
I worked in a library the year after high school and before college. It was definitely interesting. I liked reading the new books when they came in.
Oh how fun! ๐
Brilliant, always wanted to do that too. Unfortunately our library is far too small to need volunteers.
They like to give those that really support the library a chance to know what it is like behind the scenes.
sounds like a fantastic day! enjoy yourself ๐ {but not too much – wink, wink!}
LOL! I behaved myself Stacy ๐
As a librarian in my past life I just had to smile at your excitement, hope you enjoyed the experience. ๐
I did! I knew I would – I love trying new things and learning.
I love your excitement. We have a few volunteers at the library, but they do the jobs we don’t want to do, like trying to find missing books, making new labels for books, and pulling books to be weeded.
I’m also going to say, any of you that want to come sit at the reference desk for me please feel free! I don’t get asked nearly enough about books, all my reference questions are about computer problems (how to print, how to send an email, ect.)
LOL – I would love to…. I think I will write about the experience tomorrow – it is different than I had thought it would be ๐
I don’t know. I should check!
Oh I hope you do and I hope they do ๐
I work at my college’s library and I love it. There is definently a certain level of geekiness attached to it that some people just don’t understand. ๐
I am sooooooo about the geakiness. I fed right into it, I had a lot of questions ๐
That sounds like a blast! The closest I’ve ever come to being a librarian is interviewing for a summer position (which I didn’t get…). I can’t wait to hear about how it went!
