Morning Meanderings: Librarian For A Day

2a1

Not going to lie… I am kind of excited πŸ˜€

Our Library offers an occasional opportunity to City Board Members and Friends Board Members to get a real taste of what it is like to work at the library.Β  These LUCKY people will work behind the circulation desk assisting in checking out books, answering questions about library cards, and talking books.Β  AND if they choose, they will also have an opportunity to work at the reference desk, researching questions that come up about books.

EGADS, does that not sound like fun?Β  πŸ˜›

My shift starts today at 2 pm.Β  Do you have any idea how long I have wanted to be behind that counter?Β  I mean…. ummmm…. yeah, it might be great.

😳

If you are in the area stop in and see me πŸ™‚

As for the rest of my day – I am home tonight, starting my running training program late afternoon and then moving on to a book this evening.Β  Should be a wonderful day. πŸ˜€

Does your local library offer opportunities for you to work or volunteer there?

  1. Lol i love your reaction to being behind the counter. I secretly felt that way when I had the honor of filling in for our librarian for a few hours recently. It was so much fun. It was fun to use the scanner, but I really wanted to stamp a book. Lol

    • I love trying new things and I learned quite a bit – how to check in a new book to the system, looking up books for others, how to save a binding on paperbacks…

  2. It sounds as though you are fulfilling a long time dream? Have fun!

  3. I worked in a library the year after high school and before college. It was definitely interesting. I liked reading the new books when they came in.

  4. Brilliant, always wanted to do that too. Unfortunately our library is far too small to need volunteers.

  5. As a librarian in my past life I just had to smile at your excitement, hope you enjoyed the experience. πŸ™‚

  6. I love your excitement. We have a few volunteers at the library, but they do the jobs we don’t want to do, like trying to find missing books, making new labels for books, and pulling books to be weeded.

I’m also going to say, any of you that want to come sit at the reference desk for me please feel free! I don’t get asked nearly enough about books, all my reference questions are about computer problems (how to print, how to send an email, ect.)

  7. I work at my college’s library and I love it. There is definently a certain level of geekiness attached to it that some people just don’t understand. πŸ™‚

  8. That sounds like a blast! The closest I’ve ever come to being a librarian is interviewing for a summer position (which I didn’t get…). I can’t wait to hear about how it went!
