It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

Welcome to It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading!  This is a great way to plan out your reading week and see what others are currently reading as well… you never know where that next “must read” book will come from!

I love being a part of this and I hope you do too!  As part of this weekly meme I love to encourage you all to go and visit the others participating in this meme.  I offer a weekly contest for those who visit 10 or more of the Monday Meme participants and leave a comment telling me how many you visited.  **You do not have to have a blog to participate! You receive one entry for every 10 comments, just come back here and tell me how many in the comment area.

Under the new and hopefully improved 2013 guidelines, the winner each week will receive a $5 Amazon gift card.  This past weeks winner is:

Moms Small Victories !!!!

I have not been around much this week… work and evening activities have kept me busy which is good, but have also kept me away from writing reviews.  Here is what little I put up this week:

Devastation On The Delaware by Mary Shafer – SO GOOD!!!

Wow.  That is it.  😯  I have reviews to write and I have been listening to a  lot of audio so there is that.  😀

For this next week I have started a few new things:

1

Christa Parravani and her identical twin, Cara, were linked by a bond that went beyond siblinghood, beyond sisterhood, beyond friendship. Raised up from poverty by a determined single mother, the gifted and beautiful twins were able to create a private haven of splendor and merriment between themselves and then earn their way to a prestigious college and to careers as artists (a photographer and a writer, respectively) and to young marriages. But, haunted by childhood experiences with father figures and further damaged by being raped as a young adult, Cara veered off the path to robust work and life and in to depression, drugs and a shocking early death.

A few years after Cara was gone, Christa read that when an identical twin dies, regardless of the cause, 50 percent of the time the surviving twin dies within two years; and this shocking statistic rang true to her. “Flip a coin,” she thought,” those were my chances of survival.” First, Christa fought to stop her sister’s downward spiral; suddenly, she was struggling to keep herself alive.

Beautifully written, mesmerizingly rich and true, Christa Parravani’s account of being left, one half of a whole, and of her desperate, ultimately triumphant struggle for survival is informative, heart-wrenching and unforgettably beautiful.

There were no surprises in Gatlin County.
We were pretty much the epicenter of the middle of nowhere.

At least, that’s what I thought.
Turns out, I couldn’t have been more wrong.
There was a curse.
There was a girl.
And in the end, there was a grave.

Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she’s struggling to conceal her power, and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.

Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town’s oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.

That’s about it.  Lots of books to catch up on.  What are you reading this week?  Please add you link below where it says click here.  I would love to see your posts!

  1. I haven’t come by to say hi for a while, so I got my butt in gear and came to do so. I’m trying to figure out if I’ll see Beautiful Creatures, eventhough I know I don’t want to read the book. I seem to be a snob when it comes to not liking YA for some reason. I need to get over it.

  2. I loved Beautiful Creatures and I’m off to see an advanced screening of the movie tonight! Hope you get caught up on everything. Must check out your review of Devastation on the Delaware, I want to read it 🙂

  3. Her sounds very interesting and intense. I hope we get your thoughts on it.
I hope you enjoy all your reads this week and manage to catch up on your reviews 🙂

  4. Hey,
Can anyone part take in this meme? I just think its a fantastic Idea and wanted to use it on my own blog – with your permission, and links and acknowledgement listed as you of course.

  5. Sometimes you just can’t help it – you can only read one or two books. I guess I’m starting to consider myself lucky if I get one novel finished a week. LOL, I used to be a fast reader, tearing through books….but of course, that was before I got the internet, or cable t.v. Life changes. 😉

  6. WOW! Thanks so much! What a nice surprise for a cold Monday morning! I’m linking up again and enjoy visiting these great book bloggers and getting ideas for new recommendations to read. Thanks again Sheila, let me know what you need from me.

  7. For the next two weeks I have a forced life of living on the couch I am able to do major blog hopping. So far I have been to 60 of the blogs on the link. It is a very neat thing to be able to do. There are lots of readers reading the same books, and many books that I have never heard of. Thank you I am enjoying the hopping very much.

  8. I’ve visited and commented on 12 blogs today. Lots of Beautiful Creatures readers and Oleander Girl seems to be a popular choice as well. I should’ve ordered Beautiful Creatures when series was on sale at Amazon for $2.99 each yesterday.

  9. When I went for a haircut yesterday everyone was talking about Beautiful Creatures and Safe Haven. I was completely in the as I have not read either book or sen either movie but now I have to figure out a way to accomplish all because they really piqued my interest.

Visited 10 so far. Grandma duty has kept me hopping today.

    1. I hit REPLY to a comment because my browser won’t let me enter the comments area any other way.

I just finished DIE FOR YOU, a 2009 book by Lisa Unger. I’ve never read this author before so picked up one of her older books at a used book sale to try her out. She’s fantastic!

I think I might read FAITHFUL PLACE by Tana French next.

  10. I visited ten blogs on the list, and hopefully will find time to look at more! Beautiful creatures sounds like the latest greatest thing! I’m reading Anna Karenina before I see the movie – cant wait to see it! xx

  11. I just finished reading “Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe” and it’s probably my newest favorite book. Have a great reading week!
