Good morning! As for the title of this post… not me, I am not tired. I am pretty good…. rested, good quiet low-key week so far 😀 However, you may know I have pretty much started a dog rescue site in my home since April…
Bailey, 14 years old now, lost his best friend (and one of mine as well), Elmo last October. One of the hardest days of my life. I suddenly understood how people said they could never own a dog again after doing something like that… too painful. I agree. It took my breath away for days.
Then in April, a friend of mine finds a stray dog by her home. After searching desperately for its owner, calling all the area vets, humane society, etc, she calls me to see if I can give him a home.
No, is my response. Can’t do it no way no how….
but I did let her bring him over…. and I did let him stay over night while she looked for a home… and uh….. Sam, is still here and not going anywhere.

Then, my Navy son comes home a couple of weeks ago. He is sitting on the deck one sunny Monday afternoon and he shares with me this story about this abused dog his friend has that was rescued by the Pequot Vet. No home, major surgery from the beer (you read that right) they were feeding it, pins in his shoulder from a recent surgery from being tossed out the back of a truck. He is 16 weeks old. Enter, Mater into our life.

So yeah…. I think I am done now. Three dogs… all great, but yeah. My quiet house… not so quiet anymore with the addition of Mater. I know he will settle down… but currently I feel a bit like “that crazy dog lady”. 😛

So that’s what is happening here… I am finishing up Gone Girl today and holy smokes… so good. My friend Heidi is coming over tonight to pick it up and I am just loving it but at the rate I am going, I may have to wait to give it to her on Friday…. I still have a ways to go 😀
Have you read anything lately that was sooooo awesome it was hard to put down? I need a few more of those. 😀

I read a Walk Across The Sun by Corban Addison, awesome story that stays with you long after you have finished the book. I would say it is the best book of 2012 that I have read so far.
Wow Joan! Those fighting words….LOL 😀 I think I may be reading the best of the year so far as well 🙂
LOL, I would be in the same position. I’m a total bleeding heart when it comes to animals in need!
Yeah… now I have filled my home… they are wonderful, and Bailey… well Bailey is pretty much furniture… he lays here or there.. thats about it 😉
I downloaded Gone Girl yesterday for Sparky…I’ve been drooling over it for months. I now have to decide if I can jump over several other books and start right in on this one…or make it wait its turn! Dilemma.
I have a friend who has adopted several dogs from shelters. Some of them were in pretty bad shape, but eventually she turns them into healthy, happy dogs. A worthy cause. Good luck with your “animal adoption service.”
Jump into it Laurel… I will need people to talk to about it… spoiler page will be activated!
I once adopted a dog that had been abused and she was such a good dog. All she wanted was love. Your three dogs sure look worn out. Very cute.
Sam always wants my love as soon as I get home- he is so sweet waiting to be petted. Mater is mellowing.
You are good people, Sheila!
Thanks Mary, I have a very soft heart for abused animals.
I’m right there with you, Sheila. I can’t turn away a furbaby. Your photos made me smile and smile!
Me too Beth… my home… is full 😀
Summerpeople by Elin Hildebrand…
You are awesome to rescue both of them!
I have to get to that one Patty! 😀
I’m reading Craved by Stephanie Nelson right now. I can’t wait to finish it so I can start Deceived.
Ashley @ Dr. Pepper Diva
Those sounds good Ashley!
I just can’t wrap my head around the cruel way some people treat animals. I’m so glad Mater found you.
I cant either Kathy – I couldn’t do it… I couldn’t hurt a thing – well, maybe an animal abuser… I suspect I could work up anger then.
Oh … how could you NOT keep these cuties? It just astounds me how poorly people treat animals. They are so tired because they know they are finally in a safe place where they can let their guard down. Bless you for doing this!! (And I LOVE the name Mater by the way.)
And Gone Girl … holy smokes that was a great read. I burned through it in a day. It will mess up your brain!
I am burning through the book Jenners… will finish yet tonight 😀 And thank you Jenners, this is why I can not go into the humane society…. I would bring them all home.
Mater and Sam will keep Bailey young! lol
I think so Leslie…. Bailey will come in on the action but soon walks away realizing he doesnt want that much play time any more…LOL
Mater is so darn cute! I’m so glad you took him in. My husband and I took in a rescue years ago. He had been badly abused (cigarette burns on his tail was one thing) and he was only about 8-12 weeks old. It was heartbreaking. How people can be so terrible to helpless and sweet animals is beyond me. Not to leave him out…Sam is a cutie too. 🙂
I ‘m just going to have to get my hands on Gone Girl. I will definitely be checking out your review.
Michelle, cigarette burns? That makes me so angry… I think it really gets to me because animals, like children, come with unconditional love… and when people betray that love it is heart breaking… the animal or child is left wondering… what did I do wrong? Why dont you love me? And animals… do not have a voice to tell anyone. 😦
Glad you rescued him! 🙂
Mater looks adorable. I used to have a dog that wouldn’t let go of his bone no matter what. It was his, and you’d have to fight him for it! 🙂
Okay Mater is darling!! Definitely could come and live at my house if needed 🙂 Excited to see your review of Gone Girl. I’ve read mixed reviews. Thanks!
