Morning Meanderings… Bloggiesta KICK OFF!!!!

Good morning!  Happy Bloggiesta!!! Doesn’t that make you just think of great things like nachos and taco’s and enchiladas…. hmmmmm.. maybe it is too early to think of those things.

Bloggiesta is an event that was started by Natasha from Maw Books in 2009.  It was designed as a time that we as bloggers can learn more about our blogs, how to make them look appealing, how to drive traffic, HTML, side bar links, post writing, social networking, embedding pictures and video, search engines, how does your blog rate… and more!

Bloggiesta holds a special place in my heart as it was June 2009 when I started blogging and well… I knew nothing…. NOTHING about blogging.  A week after I started book blogging, the first Bloggiesta was happening and I jumped at the chance to participate.  Bloggiesta really saved me.  I signed and participated in every mini challenge.  I learned so much that weekend, and from the start of Bloggiesta to the end, my blog looked completely different. I was thrilled.  😛

Now here we are in 2012 and I am so excited to not only be participating in Bloggiesta, but I am also a Mini Challenge host.  This year Bloggiesta is being hosted by It’s All About Books and There’s A Book, and you can see all the mini challenges here – and there are giveaways!  😀

For the kick off, I am posting my weekend to do list :  (which I will cross off when I complete them):

1.  A new blog header

2.  New blog widget

3.  prep posts for upcoming reviews

4.  Write posts for movie/book reviews that I have completed  (as of noon on Friday three written and drafted!)

5.  Participate in mini challenges  (two started)

6.  Clean up/update side bars

7.  Send out author chat questions to 3 authors

8.  Prep a blog survey to use in April

9.  Draft some fun discussion posts (as of noon on Friday one drafted… two more ideas formed….)

Hope to see you on the blogosphere this weekend – and stay tune, not only am I offering the giveaway involved with the mini challenge, but I also am planning giveaways all weekend long as part of the Bloggiesta Fiesta!!!  OLE!!!  Find me on Twitter at:  bookjourney

Are you participating?  Let me know and I will be sure to stop by and cheer you on!  😀

  1. I knew I had too much to do this weekend so I didn’t sign up. I’ll follow those who did though. Will you blog about how you do the things on your list? I’m especially interested in how to make a blog widget. Good luck, Sheila!
I’ve been planning to put up a new header photo to mark the change in seasons (I want to get rid of the snowy pic that’s there now!).

    1. Sure Mary! My weekend has a couple “to do’s” but it has been a long time since I have paid attention to some blog details that I should be doing.

I have wanted a better header for a while now, even tried to hire a couple different bloggers to create it for me but one didnt see my vision and the other was too busy so I am going to try it on my own. 😯

  2. I always like seeing what you do to your blog during Bloggiesta…and hey, when you mention tacos and enchiladas, I think we should figure out a way to add those features…lol

Today I’ve been cleaning up sidebars and pages…and doing some mini-challenges. I’ve also been trying to comment on blogs, but for some strange reason, Blogger is giving me an error code every time I try to do so. I noticed a comment from you using Blogger, so apparently you didn’t have that issue.

I think I’ll wait awhile and see if the problem “heals” itself…ha-ha!

Would this be the Ostrich Approach?

BTW…thanks for the cinnamon roll and coffee you left at my blog….

    1. A taco and enchilada feature? Meme? Sidebar link? LOL Blogger comments are currently down… I did get one in this morning but have had errors ever since so have moved on to working on my list. 😀

You are welcome for the breakfast items… I figure we both need our strength today! 😀

  3. I think I will try my best! I never knew a blog was so involved. I am not that technilogically savvy but I might be up to the challenge! T.G.I.F! Happy Blogging…

    1. I hope you are Regina – I always learn something new each Bloggiesta – your blog is like a room… it is amazing what happens when you apply a fresh coat of paint and move the furniture around.

  4. I think my favorite part of this weekend, besides being able to devote the whole weekend to working on my blog without feeling guilty, is seeing what everyone else is working on. I feel that with each blog I visit to see their to-do list, my list grows, but I guess that’s a good thing!

I encountered some errors this morning while trying to comment on some blogs as well, but it looks as if it might be resolved.

    1. That is so true Kristin! I am still in my pajamas… have been up since 7 am and now making an egg white omelet. 😀 This afternoon I have a couple task to run and do but for the morning I am going to make a dent and feel good about ti 😀

  5. Good morning! Does it matter where your blog is? I have two blogs one is on blogger and the other is on wordpress. Right now both of them are private.
My idea is to make a cookbook for my kids online so that when they both grow up and leave the house they will have access to a few good recipes from home. I want to try and put up pictures with step by step but I am not sure how to go about it. 😦
Maybe one day soon. I will get my blog together. LOL!

    1. Nope it doesn’t matter what platform you use for blogging. The online cook book sounds like a great idea and if you have time this weekend the Bloggiesta would be a great way for you to pick up ideas on how to go about it. 🙂

    1. Hey Reagan! Get back to work! LOL….

I have to run up town here pretty quick and tear down a room we used this week for the homeless – they found a home!!! YAY!!! Then to get my nails done… I know… I know… but I will listen to audio in the car and read while I am getting my nails done so not a complete MIA 😀

  6. I like your story about finding Bloggiesta when you first started. I wish I’d have that but I did figure out so much from other bloggers. People who post discussions and blogging tips are so amazing! I do have a question since this is my first Bloggiesta. Do most people update their original list as they go or make update posts? I notice most people already have some things crossed off their lists. I want to do whatever is more common.

    1. It really helped me Erika…. I devoured ever mini challenge, asked questions EVERYWHERE… when I was done… I was thrilled with the look of my bog and the knowledge I had obtained. I highly recommend Bloggiesta…. without it I am not sure I would still be blogging today! 😀

      1. Oh and to answer your questions… a lot of people cross off from their list (there is something satisfying about that LOL) and that is what I will do too but it is whatever you choose to do 😀 Have fun!

        1. Thank you! That is what I will do then. I kind of like to see what other people have crossed off their lists so that does make sense. I am also twittering when I finish a task which is satisfying as well!

  7. I just signed up, it’s my first time participating so I was unsure…but my blog and I need work so I figured there’s no time like the present to start.
You have a great list and I am looking forward to seeing your new header!

  8. I like your list.
I have several posts to draft too. But, i cannot Bloggiesta due to working the entire weekend.

I look forward to seeing your new header. I need a header, that would be one item on my list. actually, I am going to make my blog to-do list to go thru bit by bit on my own. The mini-challenges seem to be a good starting place to help formulate what should go onto a to-do list such as cleaning up labels, and purposefully commenting (more often), etc.

Have fun this weekend! I am confident you will accomplish much on your list.

  9. Happy Bloggiesta! Looking forward to seeing your new header, and can’t wait to tackle the mini-challenges! 🙂

  10. Yea! This is my first bloggiesta, though I’m not sure why since I’ve been blogging for two years. Guess I just never got around to it. I’m so glad I joined up, though. I got so much accomplished this evening. In fact, my eyes are beginning to cross so I’m heading to bed.

    Have fun tomorrow!

    1. Awesome Jenna! I left the house around 2 pm today to run some errands, then we had dinner and a movie with friends and now I am back in the house after 11 pm…. GAH … how did that happen?

Excited to get more done on Saturday!

  11. Looking forward to seeing your new look–again! 🙂

I’m participating and have some of the same things on my ToDo list but. Your mini-challenge fits my top goal to a T. Gotta break that lurker habit.

But I can’t really do more than lurk and look at the mini-challenges, learn and plot until late Saturday as my trip home is finally happening (my 2wk visit at Mom’s turned into 3mo) so spent Thursday and Friday packing. Traveling Saturday.

Had hoped to leave a few of the 20 comments tonight while my hair was drying but my browser was being bratty. Got too many tabs open probably. Plus itunes and an ebook and my note ap… bad habit of mine. whatever the cause I’ve run out of time as I will be worth nothing to Bloggiesta to say (nothing of my husband and cat) for Sat. nite and Sun. if i don’t get some sleep before my sister calls me in 3.5 hrs!!

  12. Wow! You’ve accomplished so so much this week! And your site looks SO different! But I love it! How fun to change things up so much.

Thank you again for hosting your challenge, participating so much and congratulations on accomplishing all of these things! Wow! 🙂

Hmmmm... what do you think?
