Morning Meanderings: The Tackling of P & P

Good morning … 😀

If you have been around lately you may have heard my soft mumbles (maybe even some grumbles) that my book club is reading Pride and Prejudice for our annual October classic read.  For me, this is the first time reading it.  And with life being a little exceptionally busy lately as well as the draw of other books… book club is Tuesday evening and I am on page …

7.

I am hoping that it will come together this next couple days especially, but looking ta my lovely copy I have 375 pages to tackle…. if I could read this over the next three days I only need to read 125 pages a day…

say I can manage 3 hours a day for reading these next few days that is 41.6 pages per hour.

That’s 1.4 pages per minute….

😛

In other words…

I think I got this.

My book club wears hats of the era for classic month… a few of us…. no names mentioned (to protect the goofy of course) go a bit farther and try to dress entirely around the theme of the book.  😛

In other news, it has been a couple of weeks since I have been able to participate in Alice’s Saturday Snapshot.  Time limitations, you name it, I just did not get it done.   I do however have a few pics from a recent event….

my hubby’s birthday.

In mid September we went out to eat with a few friends and celebrated Al’s birthday.  It was a pretty good time.

L: Robb, Al, and Chad

It you would like to participate in the fun at Alyce’s At Home With Books, Saturday Snapshot, click on over and see what is happening!

I have to run… I have a small commitment this morning and then breakfast with College son who was in town for one day and heading back to Mankato this afternoon.

  1. Very cute…and you are brave…I read P & P years ago and don’t think I could ever tackle it again!!!

Start speed reading…I am in shock that you are not listening to this one!!!

  2. Such nice pictures of your hubby’s birthday. Looks like all are having a good time! Hmmm…I’m a big Jane-fan, although P&P is not my favorite. I do think those books read a little slower, probably because of the archaic language. I know it always takes me a while to get up to speed with them. 🙂

  3. Good for you! Wasn’t that first sentence worth it all? Just keep plugging along, sometimes it also take a bit to get used to the “dialect”. I floundered a bit at the beginning of The Help, trying to get into the rhythm of it, but once you do, it will go most smoothly! It’s just the same, but they’re speaking kind of stilted, old fashioned English!! 🙂

  4. page 7??? Aww… You can do it. It’s a very easy read. As soon as you get a chance to sit down with it, you’ll breeze right through it. 🙂 Good luck with it, Shelia!

  5. I hope you will love P&P. Sometimes classics take a little while to get into or you have to be in the right frame of mind. I started reading Jane Eyre when I was in junior high but didn’t finish it till I was in college. It just wasn’t the right time for me and I don’t think I’d have appreciated it like I did when I was a little older! Of course you don’t have years 🙂

Have you watched the movies so you at least have an idea of the story? That is what jumpstarted my love of Jane Austen-or was it Mr. Darcy…

  6. If it were anyone else I would say P&P would be hard to read int hat short of time. But we are talking about you, Sheila! You know you are Wonderwoman! I know you can do it! Sadly, I have never made it through the book. I have enjoyed the movie though. You can do it!

  7. It looks like you guys had a great time! I would love to see photos of your book group when they dress up. Good luck with P&P! I love the book, but it’s generally a slow read for me.

  8. I burst out laughing when I saw your total pages of … 7. Just struck me as funny. Ah, you’ll get it done. I do the same thing dividing out pages per day, pages per hour, how many can I read on my train ride. Didn’t think anyone else did that!

    1. It is funny Leslie! 😛 We always choose the October classic read months in advance to give us time to read and I have known about this title since July. 😯

Sometimes breaking it down makes it seem more doable.

      😛

  9. I’ve never gotten more than a chapter into Pride and Prejudice, though I’ve tried to read it at least twice. I’m determined to get through it, and soon! I wish you good luck with your reading!

  10. These are some wonderful photos. You and your husband look so happy! Glad you had a good time!
    Happy Birthday to your husband!
