Morning Meandering… Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream! I’m just saying…

Good morning!  Happy Friday!

It’s feeling fall here this morning.  I have already been outside with the dogs and yeah… a bit chilly for sleep pants and a t shirt but the trees are looking gorgeous as the weather man said they would this year.

Anyway… I did mention ice cream.

I am really not a big fan of ice cream but occasionally a flavor will draw me out.  A couple of summers ago there was a limited edition called Key Lime Pie.  Of wow…. that was bad.  Lets just say I would go downstairs to do laundry (which is next to the freezer) with a spoon.  ‘nuf said.

Then recently at the store, I seen this limited edition Pumpkin Pie ice cream.  I am not even sure why it called to me… I am not a big pie person either and if I were to have pie, pumpkin probably would not make my top 5 choices….. yet there it was…

For the record – I thought it was ok…. different, good – but not a “have to have”.  Remember though… not the Pumpkin Pie fan… my college son however, who I sent a text to about my find, made a special trip to the store last night in Mankato to find this ice cream.  His #1 pie of choice:  Pumpkin.

Moving on… we are nearing the end of banned books week and we are down to only two more clues – today and tomorrow.  If you have missed any of them, I have organized them here for you so you can quickly catch up and get in on tomorrows big banned book giveaway.

Today your clue comes from Laura at Book Snob, with her review of The Handmaid’s Tale (one I have yet to read but own and want to!)

In other banned posts going up today and each one worth a bonus entry for tomorrows giveaway – please take a little time to see:

Sarah from Sawcat’s Book Blog has her review up of The Hunger Games

Krystyn from Someday I’ll Get There wrote up her review of The Diary Of Anne Frank

Crystal from I Totally Paused has her review up of Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince

Reagan at Miss Remmer’s Reviews reads from To Kill A Mockingbird

And for all your year around banned book curiosities… Bonnie runs the Banned Books Blog which I am thrilled to be a contributor to.  These reviews not only let you know what each book is about – but why it was banned.

There’s the banned plan!  As for me….I think this morning I will have a little tea, a little reading and maybe this afternoon a bike ride or a walk with the dogs.

  1. Ice cream is my weakness and I come by it naturally. My grandfather and my father were both addicted. Gramps used to go to an ice cream shop in Phoenix where they filled a vegetable serving bowl with scoops of various flavors. If you could finish it, you got the next one free. Gramps won so many times they put him on an honor roll and banned him from the competition! BTW, Gramps was skinny! I have to avoid it, and if the only flavor was Pumpkin Pie, my denial would be easy. Sounds yuck!

  2. I’m pertty good with ice cream, not something that calls me much anymore, although soft serve vanilla with sprinkles is one of my favorites. The kind I crave, if I want ice cream, is Party Cake Ice Cream from Turkey Hill. It is vanilla with balls of cake and lines of frosting mixed through out. The cake is pink, green and yellow and the frosting is blue. That one I have trouble resisting!

  3. Just saw a display of Godiva seasonal coffees….Pumpkin Spice, Chocolate Truffle and a Carmel Pecan that all looked good!

  4. I love the fall, and today is the first day I’m really noticing the shift. The leaves are starting to change, the sky is that deep shade of blue you only see in the fall, and the air has a hint of crispness teasing us with the weather that’s coming in another few weeks. I think today is a good day for a Pumpkin Latte – I’ll skip the pumpkin pie ice cream. 🙂

  5. I am DEFINITELY an icecream person. I love pumpkin flavored stuff–right now I am drinking pumpkin spice coffee. And oh man, Dairy Queen usually does a pumpkin pie blizzard. Heaven!

  6. I am not a fan of pumkin in any form, except for carved on my front porch. I stood in line a Starbucks yesterday and the three people in front of me ordered the pumpkin spice thingy. I could see the barista’s finger poised over the button for it, but I ordered a hot chocolate instead!

  7. I LOVE pumpkin pie…and ice cream, but only certain kinds. It’s best to get a really good brand (like the one you’re showing).

But my all-time favorite ice cream is coconut. Yeah, probably doesn’t sound that awesome. But I have to avoid the one store in the neighborhood that carries it now that I’m trying for healthier choices. Otherwise, it sort of leaps out of the refrigerated section and into my cart. Now how does that happen? LOL

You really must read The Handmaid’s Tale. Soon. I’m rereading it, and it’s chilling the second time around, too.

    • The coconut ice cream would be all yours Laurel.. 😛 I used to love coconut as a kid and even eat it out of the bag that mom had bought for baking.. but one day I got sick while eating it – one having nothing to do with the other but have not been able to eat it since or anything flavored with it.

  8. I love ice cream but chocolate or Moose Tracks are my favs. I was never a pie person other than the occasional cherry pie with ice cream(vanilla for that) or pumpkin, I’d always choose cake. But lately I’ve noticed I sometimes pass the cake and grab a piece of pie. As for pumpkin ice cream, I’d definitely give it a try.

  9. I’m not a pumpkin pie person, but the pumpkin pie cheesecake from the Cheesecake factory is really good. That brand of ice cream isn’t carried out here, so can’t try it.

  10. I’m not a cake person. I used to make a cake every week so my husband could take a slice each day in his lunch — and his mother claimed I made the best cake! But I rarely tasted a single crumb of those cakes. I prefer pie, and one year when I was growing up, my mother made me a birthday pie — with candles and all. I think it was pumpkin pie, which I like a lot. I tend to buy vanilla bean ice cream, though I like putting things in it — like slices of banana or crumbled walnuts or pecans. Pumpkin pie ice cream wouldn’t call me, though I might try one bowl of it.

Thanks again for the shout-out about Banned Books and for adding another couple of reviews to it today.

  11. Mmmm, pumpkin. I saw a recipe yesterday for pumpkin cornbread…I might have to make it one of these days!

  12. We don’t tend to have Pumpkin Pie over here and I’m not supposed to eat ice cream, but that kind of sounds like something I’d like to try!

I haven’t had it in years, but something I used to like was strawberry cheesecake ice cream by Haagan Daaz!

  13. Back in the days when we made homemade ice cream (before I couldn’t afford the calories), we once made cinnamon ice cream, which was to die for … especially with warm apple pie.
