Banned Book Week is a week I look forward to every year. If you are not familiar with this week, there was a time I was not either… but chances are – you have read a banned book. Here is a little taste of books that are on the list:

Last year I read and reviewed only banned books during the Banned Book week and it was a lot of fun and informative too!
This year, now that I am a seasoned banned book reader 😉 , I want to do more. I will be hosting some giveaways here and am asking for book bloggers to assist me, by either a) reading and reviewing a banned book during this week, and/or b) sharing your thoughts on a banned book you have already read. I need a minimum of seven participants – one for each day of Banned Books Week.

I’m really surprised by some of the books on this list. Little Women? Seriously?! The people who make these decisions must be crazy!!!
I know Crystal! It really is some of them I have to look up on line because I can not think of why they would be banned….. Huck and Finn? Because they are two troublesome boys who do not act as they should and may give other children ideas? Uhhh…. and yet we let our kids watch Bart Simpson and Family Guy…..

You posted a list of some banned books months ago and I thought…really?!? These books are banned? So I read a few of them and have had them scheduled months in advance just for this week. I’m excited to read everybody’s posts on these!
I am too Angie, I just got involved last year for the first time and was shocked at how many good reads (many of them classics) were on this list.
I recently read “In Cold Blood,” but have been struggling to write my review. This is just the nudge I need!

I would also review The absolutely True diary of a part-time Indian. The Awakening by Kate Chopin (one of my favorite books ever written) I just wrote and article for the Women’s press on powerful women characters and it is in the September issue. I talk about Chopin’s main character. I would love to participate in whatever capacity you need except over the weekend of the 24,25 because it is my anniversary and I will be busy celebrating 18 years with my husband. Thanks.

I didn’t realize how many books were on the banned books list! WOW! When I was younger (I’m in my late 40’s), no books were banned in my parents’ house, and my mom was a PK. I don’t ban books in our household, either! :O)

I will admit that back when HP came out, I pitched a set of 4 or 5 HP books out (I had bought the paperback set back then , around ’01 or ’02), since I was listening to too many people tell me not to read them. About 4 years later, I realized how crazy I had been to throw them out, and I remember that my mom had not restricted my reading when I was growing up (and I didn’t turn out to be a bad person!). So, I’ve definitely not banned any books in our home since! (* waving my hand*, I actually own a paperback book of “Lady Chatterly’s Lover” the my mom owned! Ha!

YAY Barb! I had that same reaction with The Davinchi Code… everyone as saying it was bad… but I finally came to realize it is a book. If it says something I do not like – I do not have to read it…. turned out – I loved that book!
I was floored to see Little Women on the list (and Mrs. Dalloway–wow). If I’m not mistaken George Eliot’s Daniel Deronda was on a list somewhere, but I can’t confirm that. Do you know if that’s the case, Shelia? (as for Harry Potter, i’m putting the reviews of ones i’ve read so far on my new blog).
