It’s Monday! What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

My past week started out kind of slow… I had several books/audio at the point of being done… but nothing done.  Then midway through the week the dam broke and everything started finishing up one after another.  Here is what my week looked like:

As  for this week I have some good things happening I am pretty excited about!


Yes… another Berg.  My second.  The first went so smoothly and left me admiring this author enough to reserve four more of her audio (all of which are now on my kitchen table).  This one currently resides in my car cd player.


 


Last Monday I was at a loss of what to listen to on my IPOD so I asked you what you would recommend.  Between the Monday post and the Audio Suggestion post I ran on Tuesday, the suggestions flew in.  This was one of them and having started it yesterday I have to say I truly love this story so far being told by the dog, Enzo.   I am finding it funny and sad all rolled into one.

 

 


My friend Angie from the Bookies book club suggested this one and I know a recommendation from Angie has to be good.   This one is just starting in my Kitchen CD player.  It sounds fascinating!  (click on the picture and read for yourself!)

 


The Butterfly Garden is the book I am starting today.  I discovered it at Wal-Mart and after reading the back about the author being raised falsely as the child of a man on America’s Most Wanted, I knew I had to know more.

 


And finally this book was recommended by my friend Wendy when we were at Barnes and Noble last week.  I know many of you have read this book.  I have not.  But… I will.

 

 

I have a few I hope to finish up from past weeks, in the event I finish up the reading I have listed here.  And one more thing… if you are  not aware, or in case you forgot, this weekend is the BLOGGIESTA and it is not too late to sign up.  I have participated each time and always come out learning something new or updating a blog project that I have put off.  Stop by to check it out, it is not too late to sign up.

  1. Good job on getting to The Forgotten Garden! I was thinking of reading it soon, but just kind of didn’t. I did read some other really great books though. Enjoy what you have coming up!

    I’m attempting audio (again), this time in my car, and so far it’s working for me! Yay! I’ll look for Racing in the Rain on audio next. I’ve heard so many great things about that book.

  12. Enzo…what a wonderful narrator. I really loved this book, too. And Night is an amazing story! Our 10th graders read it and it is one of their favorites, though parts of it are difficult (obviously, it’s the Holocaust)

  14. I’m glad you picked up Testimony. I hope I didn’t lead you astray. Night is excellent but difficult to listen to in parts. The Butterfly Garden is one I recommended at book club several months ago but never got around to reading it. I’m anxious to hear if it’s any good.

  19. Looks like a good week last week. And this week you have some “emotional” reads. Testimony sounds very interesting… not sure I would want to read it though. I read Night years ago – a powerful little book.
    I have Open House by Berg on my shelf…maybe I’ll pull it out to read sometime sooner than later.

  20. Oh! I loved Night, such a good read. I read it quite a long time ago and it still has stuck with me. So so good. I hope you really enjoy it!

    Also, so glad things picked up for you! My reading did this week, but not so much on the writing front. 😛 Oh well! There’s always next week!

    1. I am actually taking a weekend to write in the next couple of weeks here Danielle – going up to our cabin alone with my lap top, a notebook, pen and my recordings….

      I hope to knock out some really good writing then.

  21. I have read several of Berg’s books and never been disappointed by any of them. I checked out your blog about choosing audio books and can highly recommend:
    Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly
    Soulless by Gail Carringer
    and all of the Chaos Walking series by Patrick Ness

    Also I agree with not changing a writer’s work to be politically correct in our era.

  28. I am new to Elizabeth Berg as well and so far have loved the two that I’ve read. Testimony is a good audio, it takes a few chapters for you to learn the characters, but then it takes right off. Enjoy.

  29. I’ve heard some great things about Elizabeth Berg, I remember one of my coworkers when I worked at the public library was constantly trying to get me to read one. Maybe I’ll pick one up one of these days. 🙂 Enjoy.

  30. Wow, what a good reading (and listening) week you had! I really enjoyed The Art of Racing in the Rain, as did my book group.

    I’ve found Elizabeth Berg is sort of hit or miss. I have loved some of her books and others are just so-so. My favorites are The Year of Pleasures and The Art of Mending (which I think was set in MN):

    1. OOH!!! I have both of those waiting on my table Sue – i had no idea they were centered around Minnesota (boogas however for my map as I already have my Minnesota peg….LOL)

  34. I have both Night and The Forgotten Garden sitting on my shelf; in fact, they’re sitting side by side waiting to be read. One of my resolutions this year is to read more off my shelf and I’ve ordered my books in preference of what I want to read first. Both of those books are in the top ten, along with Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy series.

  35. That Garth Stein book is on my reading wish list as well….I read anther book by the author (Raven Stole the Moon) and thoroughly enjoyed it. Loving the cover on The Butterfly Garden too. What I’m Reading this week (or now at the very least)….ARC eBook of Broken by Susan Jane Bigelow (YA sci-fi/dystopian novel….pretty good so far, can’t wait to see how it turns out) and Pride & Prejudice & Zombies (my first zombie novel…should be interesting).   37. Late start today, had a doctor’s appointment this morning, got my med situation back under control which should help my reading situation too as my arms hurt a lot last week, even to hold a book.

    The Art of Racing in the Rain in on my TBR stack and will probably be one of my Just For Fun books.

  44. Night is on my I-Must-Read-Before-I-Die list .. I’m definitely getting it this year (after I see a noticeable difference in my TBR piles). The Butterfly Garden sounds great; I’ll be looking for your thoughts on that. I’m off to add my link and to read some of your reviews and such!

  47. I am reading ‘Oh Beautiful’ by John Paul Godges. It is a family roots memoir, beautfully written. My only complaint is that it heavy to hold.

  49. My reading of the Plum series has slowed way down–although I’m still reading it. I’m just about two books behind, number wise. A few more if you count the in between books (which I don’t know why I keep reading).

    Night is such a powerful book. I hope you find it worthwhile!

    Testimony is one I want to read as well. I think I might have packed it away though. 😦

  50. Elizabeth Berg is a great find!! I can never remember which books of her that I read though for some reason … the titles just don’t stick with me. She wrote one books about a woman whose friend is dying of breast cancer that just tore me up … so so well done and so so sad. I would highly recommend it but I cannot remember the title.

  51. I enjoyed Testimony, so I will be curious to see your thoughts on it. I know that it got some mixed reviews when it first came out. It was my first Anita Shreve.
