It’s Monday! What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

I knew a week like this was bound to happen.  Between my busy schedule and battling this cold and fever I accomplished very little in the reading department.  Very little.

The Changing World Of Publication:  Getting Books To Readers (this was what took up all my weekend time, the Twin Cities Book Festival – but sooooooo worth it. 😛

 

Ok… I guess looking at that it does look like I was active.  It didn’t feel like it, but two reviews, a movie review and a bookish topic isn’t bad with being gone all weekend.  😀

 

I have a lot of reviews to write yet.  This week I am keeping it light so I can catch up on some of last weeks reading goals.  Coming off of the festival I am going with a book that was given to me for review, and one that was a blogger recommendation.

 

This book was given to me for review from author Carl Brookins at the Twin Cities Book Festival.  Carl currently has 9 books out and I am interested to see what this author, who is a member of the Minnesota Crime Wave, has to say.

 

 

I was reading My Friend Amy’s Faith in Fiction post this past weekend and she mentioned this book that I had never heard of.   When I mentioned that in a comment on her post she replied saying it was one of her favorite books.  On my way home today I stopped at Barnes and Noble in St. Cloud and they had a copy which is now… my copy.  🙂

I am ready for a little down time with a cup (or two) of tea and seeing what you are reading!  This is one of my favorite things to do each week.  Add your What Are You Reading post to the Linky where it says CLICK HERE and we all can visit the posts!

  2. I hope you like Silence. I read it last winter (jan or feb) and reviewed it. I found it to be a very profound book; it is one of the few books of my “books that you should read” type lists…actually, the small list of books that I want my children to read at some point in their lives.
    Be warned though, it is a bit heavy of a read (or at least I thought so). Stick with it because it soooo well worth the time…soooo well worth it. I do hope you like it, and that it leaves an impression on you as it did with me….a good impression. 😉

  4. I had kind of a down week too, it was disappointing! I got caught up in work stuff and it took me the entire week to read the first Harry Potter as a result. I had hoped to get through two books last week, but it didn’t happen!

  10. I liked your story about picking up Silence. Sometimes that makes a book feel like it was meant to come to you then. Remember the title and the bookstore having it (esp if it isn’t a bestseller) etc. I hope you enjoy it.

  16. I read the Bell Jar when I was a teen – I found it very depressing. Poor Woman! (the author and the character – or were they one and the same? being years ago, I can’t remember)

    I had a busy week in a different way – taking care of the house and the kids while my husband was away – so I had little time for blogs last week…headed back to read some of your posts now…

  22. I know what you mean about a slow week, I have had a couple due to illness and drama around here. Things have settled down, now I just need to learn to walk away from this computer and catch up on my reading. I spend far too much time staring at this screen instead of reading all the wonderful books waiting for me.

    1. Thanks Donna, Monday is a full day but a productive one. I worked out this morning, work this afternoon, meeting with a friend about a book this afternoon, another quick work out, supper and small group tonight.

      The tea sounds awfully good right now! 🙂

  28. What a FANTASTIC week you had! I have to admit that the past few weeks have been very light in terms of the number of books that I have read but the quality of the books has made all of the difference. I finished The Book Thief this weekend, thanks to you and your review (Loved it!), and started The School of Essential Ingredients. I haven’t read such a vividly descriptive book like this in a long time. I think that this is going to be another fantastic read!! I hope you have a fantastic week!

  31. You sound like you’ve been busy! I love the topic for your Twin Cities Book Fair. I think that’s an important question. And not only are there new books constantly being published, but there are books already published that should be on reading lists too! I imagine it would be daunting to those unsure of where to begin.

  39. You had a great week! I’ve had many where I just felt like “Whoa .. I didn’t do ANYthing”, but then I look .. and I did! (well, except for when I didn’t have reliable Internet connectivity for almost a full MONTH! URGH!!) Anyway, off to read your review of “The Bell Jar”

  41. I threw a Harlequin Intrigue on my reading table because I had little time to really seriously read. Right now I have a Harlequin Historical on the table for the same reason. This week will be the same since we are leaving for Florida on Friday. I’ll be taking Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows with me. Need to get it read before the movie comes out.
    Never thought I would be glad we wouldn’t have a trip anytime soon, but I haven’t accomplished much with 4 trips in less than a month. Our next one isn’t until March unless something else comes up.

  42. Newbie here; came through Desert Book Chick. Depending on how my week goes, I should be able to get through a few books (I already have gotten through one) and start up my book club’s next selection, Emma (I am attempting to read the book while listening to a podcast of the book as well).
