Morning Meanderings: First BBAW Mini Giveaway

Good morning!  I am still wiping the sleep from my eyes as I write this.  Today is not only a busy life day (work, work out, pick up my IHN guests and get them to place they are staying, BOOKIES book Club, and my hubby’s birthday), it is also a busy blog day (morning meandering, Immanuel’s Veins tour stop date, and my BBAW Interview Swap).

I feel like I should be popping Fred Flintstone vitamins and Red Bull.  😛

So it is early – but I need to get this party started.  I love BBAW!  This week holds within it everything I love about this book blogging hobby.

  • Recognizing other book bloggers
  • giveaways and celebrating
  • Wonderful bookish topics
  • Community! Community!  Community!

What I wanted to do this week was to ask a question each morning of BBAW along with my morning chat and Coffee Cup.  AND I am going to make the giveaways something that I really enjoy.

Today’s giveaway is for one of my guilty pleasures – really good chocolate and a great cup of tea.  Both are wonderful accomplices to a good book on a cool Fall evening.

To enter – please let me know in a comment what that one book is that you recommend time and again and you feel is a must read.  This giveaway is open for today only and the winner will be announced at tomorrow mornings meanderings.  USA or Canada addresses please.

Have fun – oh, and don’t forget to check out my week-long BBAW Giveaway too, your comment here also gives you an entry there.  😀

  1. More of a series but nevertheless, The Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. I can not begin so say enough good things about this series. It is a time commitment, since each book is well over 800 pages, but anyone who has read this agrees that it is worth the time. Of all of the books I still believe The Outlander (the first novel) is my favorite. It is the type of book that has a little bit of something for everyone.

  2. This year I have been recommending John Betcher’s books The Missing Element and The 19th Element. He is a self published author from Red Wing, Minnesota and his suspense novels are so good. He is working on Book #3 in the series and I really hope he finds a publisher.

  3. There are a lot of books I recommend over and over. One of them, though, is The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. It’s bookish, it’s mysterious, and the setting’s gorgeous. Plus: The writing is amazing!

  4. Good morning! One of my current favorite books is THE SWAN THIEVES by Costova…a bit of mystery, a bit of flashbacks, art history, a bit physic thriller with the glaring theme of obsessive behavior…it’s an engrossing read!

  5. I have two books that I have throughly enjoyed. One is OUT OF THE DARKNESS by Lilly Gayle. Vincent Maxwell is a vampire who wants to be human again and discovers that Dr. Megan Harper has discovered a possible cure to vampirism, so he worms his way into her research and into her heart as well. Can a vampire and a mortal find a way to blend their lives and in the process find happiness together?
The Other book is Sleeping With The Lights On by Brenda Whiteside. A great love story with heroine, Sandra Holiday who has pitfalls and summits, conflicts and resolutions that keep a reader spell-bound and can’t wait to find out what happens next. I am now a fan of both authors and can’t wait for their next books.

  6. I’m currently recommending Deep Creek by Dana Hand, a historical true crime novel that’s really engrossing.

By the way, happy birthday to your husband.

  7. And I thought I was busy! You’ve got a lot on your plate.

One book that I always recommend is Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett. One of the best historicals I’ve ever read, but not inaccessible to non-readers of the genre. My mom is not a big historical fiction reader, but she loved this book too.

  8. I am always recommending “The 5th Horseman” by James Patterson to others. The 5th Horseman was my first read of James Patterson’s books. I have been hooked since.

Thanks for the great giveaway Sheila and the opportunity to participate.

  9. Wow…that may be one of my favorite prizes ever!

I find myself trying to make everyone read An Abundance of Katherines by John Green

  10. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho is a must read for young and old. A book about finding your personal journey offers inspiration to the reader. My kids are tiny, but I will read this book with them when they are a litte older.

  11. For well told fantasy I would go with the Last Herald Mage trilogy by Mercedes Lackey. For a excellent mystery you can’t go wrong with Agatha Chrsitie but And Then There Were None is my all time favorite. And last but not least for a great book to read in the fall I would recommend The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson.

  12. It really depends who I am talking to because I’ll read almost anything, but many people I know only read within one or two genre. For those who like good writing, history and a long running story line, I highly recommend PILLARS OF THE EARTH and its sequel WORLD WITHOUT END by Ken Follett. There are many good Christian Fiction authors. One I have enjoyed the past year is Deeanne Gist. Good historical details and a nice sense of humor. For those who like suspense, I recommend Julia Spencer-Fleming. It is set in the Adirondacks of NY, my home territory.

The one book that really impressed me this year was IMPATIENT WITH DESIRE by Gabrielle Burton. A story in mostly journal and flash back form about the Donner Party.

Vanilla Carmel tea, yum. I hadn’t seen that yet.

    1. Three for Pillars Of The Earth – I think that one has to go on to my winter reading musts. 🙂

AND the tea is actually one that Ryan from Wordsmithonia recommended to me and he was right… so good!

      1. If you can get PILLARS OF THE EARTH and WORLD WITHOUT END on CD to listen to, try it. The gentleman who does the reading is excellent. They are long – 32 CDs and 36 (or 38) CDs – , but well worth it.

  13. I honestly believe that every woman in America should read A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Housseini. It is quite an eye opening novel! I can’t tell you how much I love a hot cup of tea on ….yes I will say it…a cold FALL evening.

  14. I would recommend A Thread of Grace by Mary Doria Russell. This book is memorable and beautiful. thanks for this lovely giveaway. Tea is my favorite drink all year long.

  15. I enjoyed your delightful post and todays was great. A Sea of Love by Santa Montefiore. This author transports me to faraway lands and gives me hope.

    1. I really enjoyed Before I Fall too Charlie! great pick! Stop back this week – I think I am going to do a gift card for Amazon and if you have access to Amazon you are eligible to win 😀

  16. I recommend The Gate to Women’s Country by Sheri Tepper. I find that not many people that I recommend it to have read it. I would describe it as dystopian feminist fiction. She has a lot of other books that range from fantasy and science fiction to fairy tale re-telling. And her writing is very intelligent, which is what attracted me to her books in the first place.

  17. Yummy chocolate and tea. What a great give away you are hosting. The tea sounds delicious.

The one book I am always recommending is Wuthering Heights. That was one of the first classics I had to read in school and loved it and when ever someone asks for a classic title i recommend that.

  18. Zoya by Danielle Steele. Even if you aren’t a lover of the author or historical fiction, I can’t imagine this book not affecting you in some way.

    It was amazing.

  19. I have so many favorites. One of my recent favorites is The Accidental Bestseller by Wendy Wax. It’s a story about writing and friendships.

  20. Ohhh…Just one?? Well, I’m big on memoirs & one of the first memoirs i read was “If I A Missing or Dead: A Sister’s Story of Love, Murder and Liberation by Janine Latus or Loose Girl: A memoir of promiscuity by Kerry Cohen Hoffmann. I couldn’t put either down. They were addicting and I was sad when I was done reading the book because there wasn’t more to read!

  21. Tea or chocolate just go with books and reading don’t they? I recommend Cry, The Beloved Country by Alan Patton. Everyone I know who’s read it was really moved by it. It is a modern classic. Thanks for the chance to win.
