Ok…. before you read this post please humor me by pushing play on the video below. I will wait here. ……..
It is 6:30 am…. feel free to synchronize your watches. I am up and dressed warmly, grabbing a blanket, my folding summer chair and I am out the door…. I am meeting Amy at O’ seven hundred.
The Destination:
The Brainerd Library Fall Book Sale
The Mission:
To be the first two people waiting to get in to the sale
Why, you may ask would I care if I was the first one at the sale? It is something I have always wanted to do. The doors actually do not open until 9 a.m. Around 8 am people will start to gather and form a line. When they do unlock the doors they only let so many in at a time.
This spring when they had the sale…. I lallygagged. I got coffee…. took my time going through town and when I arrived at 8:15…. I was way back in the line. WAY BACK. I was a mere speck to the people in the front… and for the first time in Library Sale history, I was not in the first group that entered the library. I was in the second group.
Never again.
Amy, who is just a wonderful friend understands my need to be first – at least once. If for no other reason than I think its kind of funny to be all huddled in chairs, covered in a blanket, like we are waiting to purchase really good concert tickets. It certainly should be picture worthy…..
So this morning – I have notified work I will be in late…. tomorrow morning you are welcome (and encouraged!) to tune in and see what we accomplished on our mission. 😀

go hon…
Hurry now and get there first…..
Looking forward to hearing about al the loot you got and how many toes you tread on…
*** finger cross for you hon***
🙂
Thanks EH! We made it first 😀
Oh, I know that feeling! If you don’t get in first, you could miss some really good sales items…or lose out entirely. Imagine that?
I remember doing this over the years when I was trying to get school clothes for the kids…or way back in college (in the dark ages, before computer registration!), we used to have to line up hours ahead of time to register. If you didn’t, you’d risk not getting that important class that you needed in order to graduate on time.
Good luck!!!
Thanks Laurel- it was a success 😀
Good luck! I can’t wait to see what you get 🙂
Thanks Amy! 😀
Hope you get some good ones, Sheila. Can’t wait to see your post tomorrow!
Darcy we had a blast – I just love hanging with book people 😀
Yeah whenever my library has a sale I’m there uber early because so much is scooped up so quickly. Last time I walked out with two bags of books but several people had to have people help them to their cars! Good luck!
That’s right Ladytink – and they ask that book sellers do not come until the second day, but they sneak in there anyway.
Oh I just know you are going to find a lot of goodies…looking forward to tomorrow!
We had fun Jo-Jo and I have a couple funny pics too 😀
Can’t wait to see what you get!
Thanks Julie!
You crack me up! 😀
Still, I’d probably be more likely to do this for a book sale than for most things …
😛
Hannah if I can find a way to make a memory out of a simple event…. 9 times out of 10, I will 😀
Oh, absolutely!
Hope you got some good books! I can totally understand yo had to get there early. I mean, you almost out of reading material, aren’t you? 😉
RIGHT Leeswammes! 😀 What ever would I have done? LOL
Gosh, that sounds just like the library sale that we have here in “Mayberry by the Sea,” (a.k.a. Pacific Palisades, CA). Ours start at 8:00 a.m. and people are lined up by 7:00. When the rope goes down, you’d think the Kentucky Derby was starting…CHARGE!!!! My solution was to volunteer to work at the sale. Workers get first pick of the books. I found a first edition of a book I love, so it’s worth it!
M L, we held the first and second spots at 7:02 am. The third person came at 7:20 and they trickled from their. By the time the doors were unlocked the line went around the building.
Sheila…you are amazing…this is so funny and so sweet…you probably own a million books…have fun and I can’t wait until tomorrow to see your haul!!! I would be like this at Nordstrom’s…
I do like books Patty and these books contribute to my library give away selections (the you choose what I read and then you win). PLUS I love a bargain! 😀
Library sales are dangerous places! All those beautiful books at all those beautiful prices… it gets difficult to practice restraint!
I know KM! Paperback and hardcover is 50 cents a piece – I just go a bit crazy at those prices…. you will see from the pics tomorrow.
Sooo… Where you the first there? And what goodies did you get? 🙂
I was Nikki-ann and my friend Amy was close behind me 😀 Pics and the “tell all” will be tomorrow morning.
I played the music while I read your post..made it sound uber exciting and I could picture you two staking out your spots. Can’t wait to see the great finds you snagged!!! 😀
Staci I even tested the music with the post and it ended pretty close to the time I finished reading so it worked for me. 😀
I LOVE it!! You remind me so much of myself it isn’t funny! I hope that your mission was successful and that you were able to get the pick of the litter this am. Just the thought of my library book sale gets me excited and puts a smile on my face.
Sarah, it was a lot of fun and what was funny was that the spring sale everyone crowded tight against the door and it was quite a mob.
With Amy and I in the front spots we just relaxed and sat on the 2 foot high high wall that frames the building and everyone else kind of followed that example.
First of all, the Mission Impossible music was AWESOME! Secondly, I can’t wait to see what you got!!!
Thanks LR!
Can’t wait to see what the “Mission Impossible” delivered!
I have awarded you a ONE LOVELY BLOG AWARD – you can find it here 🙂

HI Baychriz and thank you 😀
You crack me up….the perfect music ! I can’t wait to see your purchases. I hope there was no pushing and shoving. 🙂
Jill I thought of that last night and had to dig through a few You Tube videos to find the right length and how I wanted it to play out…. LOL 😛
Hope you find all kinds of amazing books!!
Thanks Vicki – I think I will do ok. I am really looking for a couple treasures….. 😉
Oh how exciting! A book sale is the ONLY time I would ever get somewhere at the crack of dawn. Totally worth it and can’t wait to see what you come home with.
Book Whisperer I wish I would limit myself to just a few “early events” but seems like I am always on board for something in the early hours…..
I am thinking of taking next Wednesday off from work to recoup.
Hey girl I hope you make a killing!
Just call me Annie Oakley! 😀
I hope you got some awesome books! I love library book sales like that!
I did Amused! 😀
ROTFL! I am going in an opposite direction. I’ve put myself on a limit to the books coming in. I’m running out of book shelf space and refuse to get another shelf. Hope you were able to get some good ones!
J Kaye I love the Library Sales and pick up a big majority of my personal library from these sales. Most I am will ing to read and give away but there are a few that stay in my personal library. 😀
How fun! You have a knack for making life quite exciting. 🙂
Care I love this comment! I do like to take things to the next level when possible.
This will be a sale to remember….
I love it : ) I have never done that, but since I did the sorting of our library donations, I sort of had a preview sale. One reason I have so very many books. It is probably a good thing I don’t work at the library any more. My sister works for one in Northern Virginia and keeps an eye out for specific books I am looking for.
The only time I went early to be at the front of the line was in college when Simon and Garfunkel came to perform. I was nearly crushed against the doors, so I don’t do that any more. A good book sale, however, I would be tempted.
Pat, they have a group called friends Of The Library that set up the sale and I know they get first pick of the books. I have thought about being on the Friends Of The Library committee, but the only thing holding me back is I dont want to work the sale – I want to shop it. 😀
