It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

The Mondays come around fast don’t they?  I was gone all weekend and just popped in the door around 4 pm on Sunday afternoon.

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

I love being a part of this and I hope you do too!  As part of this weekly meme I love to encourage you all to go and visit the others participating in this meme.  I offer a weekly contest for those who visit 10 or more of the Monday Meme participants and leave a comment.  You receive one entry for every 10 comments, just come back here and tell me how many in the comment area.

As I was saying above, I just came home Sunday afternoon from our cabin up North where I spent the weekend hanging out with a couple of wonderful friends.  We had wonderful weather as we did some exploring, road carts down a ski hill and even went to a Library Sale.  (more details on all this with pictures on Tuesday during the Morning Meanderings.  🙂


I did not get squat down for reading this weekend but did a little during the week:

Review:  Seven Year Switch by Claire Cook (I sooooo enjoyed this fun beachy read!)


Author Chat with Claire Cook (how fun is this woman?)

Review:  The Icing On The Cupcake by Jennifer Ross (a sweet read that didn’t quite hit the mark for me)

Review:  The Accidental Adult by Colin Sokolowski (a humorous closer look at the guys who struggle passing into adulthood)

(I have a few reviews I need to get posted too)


That’s it.   Not the most productive week I have had but that’s summer.  😀  I am going to set my goals lower for this week as I have a few books to finish up on and if all goes well I am going to the cabin this next weekend alone to do some cleaning so I will get in some good reading time as well if that happens.   Here is my new books I plan to start this week:

Yes, another Claire Cook book.  I am anxious to read her again!

One that has been on my shelf too long…

Another one from the TBR shelf…. my friend Angie (By Book Or By Crook) was recently reading this one and spoke highly of it at our last book club gathering.


This one is on my personal book shelf – unread but it needs to be so it is coming on the list!


So that is the lofty plan.  I hope to read each night this week and really have a pretty open week to do just that.  If I go to the cabin alone, that gives me 3/12 hours audio each way so that helps too.

  1. Life As We Knew It is a well done. So well done in fact that it made me anxious. I couldn’t bring myself to finish the series. It is on a school reading list in our area and I image that the kids will have a lot to discuss if they have any memories of being in the area during Hurricane Katrina. Have a great week. I can’t wait to see what everyone is talking about this week.

    1. amcatoir, I have a friend who is reading another book along this same line except it has to do with complete loss of all electronics…. I cant remember the title but it sounds really interesting!

  3. Happy Monday, a bit early! Just finished Seven Year Switch and Wildwater Walking Club, both by Claire Cooke. Loved them both and just what was needed for a HOT week in Ohio! Also completed Life Without Summer by Lynne Griffin–sad, but engrossing first novel. I’m listening to Little Bee by Chris Cleave–troubling but timely. I am now turning pages fast in Reliable Wife by Robert Goolrick. It’s been quite a reading week for me! Your choice Sold by Patricia McCormick is an important read and its writing style is beautifully simplistic and poetic. I’m going to put your other two choices on my TBR book.

  7. Sounds like you had a fun girl’s weekend, love seeing the photos. Another Claire Cook novel so soon, that’s recommendation in itself, I’m keen to read Seven Year Switch.

  11. I was disappointed The Icing on the Cupcake didn’t live up to it’s cover. I love the cover, but your review of it left me lukewarm on reading it. Have a great week!

    1. Kylie – thats how I felt about it. I hate to discourage anyone from reading a book, but there were some gaps in the story that didnt fit and I had to mentio that. I have seen reviews that loved this book, and some that are like mine so it could go either way 🙂

    Life as We Knew it is intense. I read that and the second (The Dead and the Gone). I want to read the third one, but it’ll be a while.

  15. Sold looks really interesting and I hope you enjoy it. I am somewhat behind in my reading, but that is life in the summer. I can’t seem to stay focused and besides, the weather has been beautiful and there is so much going on right now.

  33. I like the cover for The Wildwater Walking Club…interesting title. I am reading Summer at Tiffany and loving it. I’m also reading Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind after my aunt recommended it. It’s a funny read. Have a great week!

  35. I love The Wildwater Walking Club by Cook. It looks like a self discovery, friendship book. I love those books. I’m curious about the Whiskey Gulf. I love the color of whiskey. That deep, rich color. I always wanted to name a baby, a cat, a dog Brandy. Never have had the chance. Good books. Thanks for coming by.

  36. I have Life As We Knew It on my list for this week too-it’s one of my book club’s August picks. My friend said that reading it made her want to stockpile supplies in a shelter under the house, but we are reading another book about the end of civilization as well for August, so maybe she’d just hit her apocalypse threshold.

  38. I am normally very not domestic, but the idea of going to a cabin by myself for a weekend to clean sounds wonderful. Of course, I would probably spend two hours cleaning and the rest of the time reading, so perhaps I just like the idea of going to a cabin by myself. 😉

    1. I am not either Trisha but this last weekend was fun but I was busy the entire time. If I go back alone I can get the cabin cleaned up – wont take long, and spend the rest of the time reading and maybe go and blog a bit in a coffee shop. Totally selfish – me time 😀

    1. LOL Sue – the cleaning is a must! We had not been there in awhile and I have traces of a mouse. GAH! First time! So I need to go clean out the cupboards and unfortunately set a trap or two 😦

    1. Hi Zee! I have been trying to do more author interviews. That was a goal at the beginning of the year and I kind of let it slide. When I went to New York in May and met so many authors I was reminded how much I enjoy chatting with them 😀

    1. Oh yes Jenners – we sign a release form before we can ride. It was a blast and you do have some speed control. I actually did a little flip video of the ride but not sure if it is “blog worthy” or not 😀

  51. Your picture is probably from Lutsen! We did the alpine slide one summer when visiting. I was too chicken to go too fast, I think I held up the people behind me. Have a fun weekend by yourself.

    1. Hi Darla – it is! How crazy fun is that ride! 😀 We bought the bracelet for 5 rides which was enough. It gave us a chance to have that initial “what have I gotten myself into” ride…. then the little more relaxed ride, then by the third time it is the “can I catch air if I go faster over the dips” and 4 and 5…. well, its time to quit or we are going to get hurt! 😀

      1. Thanks for stopping by, as far as the pictures on the side bar, I just put the ones of hubby and I. My daughter pointed out to me that I had the kids there but not one of us…I got about 50 pages into Dracula In Love and it is starting out pretty good!!!

  64. I love the covers on The Wildwater Walking Club, Life as We Knew It and Sold. They all make me want to pick them up and start browsing. The first two give off a warm and fuzzy feeling but Sold does not. Definitely not. A bit disturbing in a way hard to articulate which makes the draw even stronger.

    Have a great reading week. Spending a day alone in a cabin sounds delicious. I could really go for that about now. Time alone is as necessary as water and breath for me and I’ve had very little of it in the last two weeks.

  65. I have read a couple Harlequin Intrigues. My “junk food” summer reading. There are several authors I like in this line. They are quick reads which this time of the year is about all I can handle. I brought a tub of books with me on the trip, but don’t think I’ll get much read. Finished an Intrigue last night. I brought several anthologies and will probably start one tonight. I am reading ISADORE’S SECRET by Mardi Link. It is a non-fiction account of a nun’s murder in a remote Northern Michican town in 1907 and the secretiveness surrounding the case even today.
    We started IN A SUNBURNED COUNTRY by Bill Bryson in audio book on the drive to Nashville. It is a 5 hour drive. My husband took it back with him, so I’m not sure when I’ll hear the rest of it. He is funny and enjoyable. If you haven’t read any of his books, you should.

  66. I know that my list included the last couple weeks and not one week like yours, but do you mind if I do a little happy dance because I was able to read more? Seriously, I don’t know how you do it, week in and week out. You work, have a much busier social/family life than I do and you consistently amaze me. Keep it up, I like being amazed:)
