Morning Meanderings…

Woo!  Sorry about my lateness…. I have been up, but doing other things and prepping my day…. and honestly I have so many things going on in my head right now for the “topic” of the morning that I couldn’t choose….  (yeah, I know my coffee cup is upside down)  😀

So fair warning – I have no idea which direction this post is going to go.

Ok – for starters…. is anyone reading, listening too, have read,  or considering The Passage by Justin Cronin?  I was in line for it at BEA.  Justin Cronin was there signing the books and he gave out his last book to the girl right in front of me.  Apparently his full shipment for the signing had not come in.  I did not know a lot about the book, other than it was plastered everywhere in large signs all over the convention center.

When I came back home, I found it on Audible.com and downloaded it to my IPOD.  It is 15 35 hours of audio so you know – C O M M I T M E N T.    I am probably a couple of hours in and seriously the jury is still out.  I loved the beginning, then it went a different direction and was odd and I was lost…. then it connected to the beginning so I was back – but now I am confused again….

Second random topic – I am excited to participate in the Book Blogger Appreciation Week which will take place in September of this year.  More info on this will be on a separate post.

Third random topic – you know I mentioned that I went to Eclipse with my friend Wendy.  What I did not mention is that she is crazy.  A complete loony.  Ok, maybe not – but here is the full size movie poster  she left in my office:

I also have June comments awards to do – and yes, I am doing that for July too…. just need to get things organized around here.  🙂

I hope you all have wonderful 4th of July plans!

  1. How funny! I was going to ask you if you were going to join in the BBAW for the “community” category! I hope this means YES!!

Despite the hoopla surrounding The Passage, I’m not even tempted to go there, so I can’t give you any advice, but I’m sure others will weigh in here and help you out.

  2. Am I the only female in North America who has no desire to watch the Twilight movies? 😉 A movie night with a female friend sounds delightful, and the poster is funny. There’s nothing like good friends.

  3. No, laughingstars66, I’m right there with you! I did see the first one, but against my will…my teenage grandson dragged me there!

No way am I ever standing in line to see another one, nor will I read the books! So there, that’s my rebellious stance for the day! lol

But Sheila, that poster is hilarious!

    1. Laurel – the movies have gotten better since the first one…. 🙂

The poster actually scared me…. I flipped the light on in my office and there was Edwards big head….LOL

  4. That poster is a riot! Actually I am thinking of getting into the whole series just to see how close or far it is from the Sookie Stackhouse series.

    Have a great 4th!

  5. I am reading The Passage right now (approx. 100 pages in) and am on the fence so far. I am afraid this might be a case of high expectations gone wrong. I read one blogger who said she loved it so much that she read it in two days! At my current pace it will take 2 months to read. Here’s to hoping it gets better and WOWs me.

    Have a great weekend!

    1. Nothing really big Lisa – We are probably going on a motorcycle ride with friends either this evening or tomorrow morning. Sunday we are at out church Potluck, picnic, baptism in the morning to about 1 pm – then nothing but relax and enjoy the day! 😀

  6. I’ve read The Passage awhile ago and I definitely agree that when the story changes, it was can be confusing. It’s not going to make my “best of 2010” list but it is a fast read.

  7. I started to read The Passage at the store and loved what I got through, I was already buying 3 other books so I had to pass on it. I will be getting it though.

I’m excited to see what categories you nominate yourself in, I’m sure you will win them all 🙂

Thirdly, can we just foget that Twilight even exists?

    1. Ryan – good about The Passage, I would like to read your thoughts on it.

The category nominating has really been the hold up here Ryan…. its an odd feeling for me – but I love BBAW for the chance to do community with other bloggers so I am in.

And thirdly – I cracked up when I read your Twilight comment and the answer is no, we can’t Ryan. Not yet…. there’s another movie coming out… 😀

      1. Can’t we just pretend it isn’t coming out. That they decided nobody in their right minds would want to watch it so they scrapped it? 😉

      2. Ryan you just keep cracking me up! I seen this comment in my email and I just started laughing…. I need to dig deeper into your deep seeded fear of Twilight…..

        😀

  8. your friend wendy is a hoot!!!

the audio may be a commitment but so is the book…that thing is like a doorstop….i have it sitting next to under the dome and a suitable boy

  9. Sheila, I am in. The process of listening to the Passage also. I got it from audible too. I have listened to the first part (about) 7 hours. My whole book is about 35 hours long. Are you sure you didn’t get the abridged version? As far as Twilight. Read the first books ,will not be reading the rest saw the first movie have no desire to see anymore. Both daughters have read the entire series multiple times and go to the midnight showings.

  10. We are going to sit tight this week end and chillax…we can watch the most incredible fireworks right from our driveway…they are from the arboretum that is almost next door to us. I have not planned our menu but it will be traditional…incredible hot dogs with yummy toppings and gourmet s’mores…and a Skinny Girl Margarita…of course!!! You have fun, too, and put coffee cup right side up!!!

  11. Shelia, I had the library audio of the passage; it was 25 discs. Is yours the abridged version? I liked the reader Scott Brick, but the story was not to my taste so it was a DNF.

  12. LOLOL! I love that poster! I am sorry for not dropping by more. I’ve been on a push to get a first draft completed. Hopefully I’ll be done by the end of this month.

  13. Cool poster. Isn’t it great to have slightly nutty friends. They make our life so much more interesting and enjoyable.
