Is it just me…. or are my morning posts later than usual this week? LOL. I feel like I am sleeping more. I woke up at 5 am when hubby got up (I believe he is insane) to meet up with his friend Kevin and go to an auction today. I thought I’d sleep another hour, hour and a half… but no. Opened my eyes again at 7:45 am. And I napped yesterday.
This is all just so embarrassing.
Anyway – I didn’t wake up to share with you my sleeping habits (although reading the above paragraph I see I did just that). What I really want to share is that this coming Wednesday is my official one year Blogoversary. (insert SQUEEEEE here). Now – if you look back you will see I had posts prior to June 9th 2009, and before that I have posts going into 2008 on another blog –
BUT…
to me my Blogoversary is the day that I officially discovered the book blogging world (prior to that date I thought I was journaling what I read for me). I remember the day, June 9th because someone commented on my blog.
I know right? Super scary. A comment! I shudder to think of it…
Here’s what you need to know about that. I didn’t get comments unless you were a friend of mine or a family member. A comment outside my tiny world was unheard of. But there was one. And it kind of freaked me out. How did this person find me? If I click on their name will it take me to some site that will cause me to instantly want to delete the comment?
So I clicked on it. And…. they were a book blogger. What I saw was reviews and giveaways (wow, giveaways?) and I thought – amazing, there are two of us in the world who do this! (Yes, you can laugh…. I really had no idea)
And then on their blog they had a sidebar badge that said I am a member on Ning Book Blogs. Well… what is that? Click. Ahhhhhhhh….. and my world grew 10,000 sizes that day.
So anyway, you get the point why that day, June 9th, is the day I wish to celebrate. And it is sneaking up on me fast. Last year I did have a Blogoversary Party using the date I started my original blog. Check out that post as that is how I plan on doing this years as well. I will go forward using this June 9th date only so please make a note to stop in on Wednesday for the one day giveaways and invite your friends to come too, it is going to be a blast!
Today I am off to help a friend shop for a new bike and then hopefully meeting my friend Heidi to do some rollerblading and book talking. Two things we love. I have a review coming up later and I am still trying to figure out how to most efficiently do my mailbox post with the BEA books (all have arrived but one box). Catching up…. catching up… 😀
GAH! Got to run – the mailman just arrived with my final BEA box!!!!!
I’m glad you’re allowing yourself to catch up on sleep, too — not just on all the tasks. 🙂 That’s important.
I don’t remember the day I discovered the book blogging world, but I love your story!
I love that story too Hannah, timing was everything as about a week after that was the first Bloggiesta. I learned so much during that weekend and just absorbed it all. I wish I had a picture of what mu blog looked like before the Bloggiesta and after. The over all look changed and I learned how to do so much more than type a review in a box.
😀
That’s so neat, how it all worked out like that for you.
Sheila, I think I must have met you (online, of course!) right after that, on Book Blogs (ning!!).
I had my one blog from April 2008, but didn’t get any comments until I discovered the book blogging community and added my Reflections blog on June 17, 2009. Which reminds me, a blogoversary for that one is coming up!!
I don’t think I’ll do big celebrations for the blogoversaries of all my blogs, though…lol.
Maybe just Reflections, Rainy Days…hmm, the list could go on.
Anyway…a side note. June 9 is a big number for me, but not about blogs. That’s the date (in 1970) that I met my second husband.
Funny about the dates we remember. Actually, I do recall a lot of rather trivial dates…that one’s not trivial, of course, but now I’ll be sure to remember your blogoversary.
BTW, how did you get the cool background color here? Was that something “extra” or done by a designer?
Laurel, the color came out of the Fall Bloggiesta. I will have to think about how I did it again but I believe it is standard in wordpress and it has to do with the CSS codes. Natasha (Maw Books) patiently walked me through it step by step.
The beauty of wordpress is that if you goof it you can back to the original with the push of a button, I was still scared to death though. I am walking out the door now (and not opening my BEA box until later although I want to), but let me look at this more closely later today and I will get back to you. 😀
Ps…. you are right, yo did connect with me right around the time of the Bloggiesta – and I still have your interview in my left sidebar.
Wow, that’s some will power, leaving when you haven’t opened a just-arrived box of books! 😀
LOL Hannah – I was already running late to meet my friend when it came. I have been trying to wait until my son is around as he loves to read too and opening the box together is even more exciting 😀
OK, OK, I guess I can see that. :p
Well, I guess I am just a rookie, as my “Book Blog Discovery” Day (I didn’t even know there was such a thing) was about a month ago when I stepped into your world of Books, Mary Tyler Moore, Gilmore Girls, and BEA! And have been stopping by every morning since! I could spend all day! One thing leads to another……
kay r – I love this! I am so thrilled that you enjoy my ramblings on books and such! 🙂 You really made me smile here!
I just started book blogging this year, but I keep…erm…many blogs, a personal blog, a pop culture blog with a few other ladies, a music blog. I used to keep a photoblog, but I discovered flickr and now I don’t really need it 🙂
The first unsolicited comment you get always makes things so wonderful. If I didn’t find book places, I’d never be able to talk books. I have no book friends any more.
Andrea, I was starting to think I’m the only one with numerous blogs! lol
I’m a bit obsessed with blogging and have nineteen at last count.
Nope I’m blog obsessed. Its bad enough I have facebook, which sucks me in with mindless games I can’t seem to stop playing. I also have a blog on livejournal for my friends that don’t do blogger.
Andrea, I have a confession…I have ten Blogger blogs and nine on Word Press. I haven’t tried livejournal yet, although I have lingered there…a time or two. Is there any hope for me? lol
I think we are in the same boat. I won’t even mention that I run a small meme on blogger for music fans.
LOL Andrea and Laurel – looks like you two have a lot in common 😀
I cant imagine trying to keep up on more than one blog. My personal one went to the wayside as this one grew. When I added the morning meanderings (which were a little bit about me and life stuff) I was nervous that people wouldn’t want to know about me…. when they loved that too – this blog covered all areas of blogging for me 😀
I’m with you Sheila! I can’t image reading more than a couple blogs much less writing ten! Does no one sleep anymore? 🙂 If you are sleeping more than usual, your body needs it so don’t fight it. I haven’t slept past 5:00 am in years. I’m jealous!
Happy Blogoversary Sheila! I know what you mean about getting that first comment. Was so glad that I found the book blogging community! 🙂
Thanks so much Terri! I am too, its hard to remember what I did with my spare time before this. I think I played a lot of word games on Facebook. 🙂
Sheila, I was telling my husband about you just this morning. No, I’m not a creepy stalker, but I do tell him (bore him probably) regularly about things I read and people I know in the blogging world. I described you as the Energizer Bunny of my blogging world. So….please don’t apologize for sleeping an additional few minutes. At my age (52), I’m excited if I sleep through the night occasionally.
I love your blog and am so happy that I found it whenever it was that I did (months ago). You are my inspiration about many things. Take care.
Kay – oh wow. Thank you. I really appreciate that. I just enjoy talking books and love that I found others with that same passion 🙂
Congratulations on your upcoming “blogversary!” What a great milestone. Wishing you many, many more!
Thank you M L Malcolm 😀
Oh my gosh Kay is so right – what an apt name for you: The Energizer Bunny!
:–)
LOL Rhapsodyinbooks! Some days yes….. some days… not so much 😀
I know we talked about this in NY-I still remember the day you emailed me and asked if you could use one of my reviews. Thank you for reaching out and becoming my friend.
That’s a great memory Esme. Who knew all that time ago that one day we would meet in New York and share a hotel room! LOL 😀
I love your description of discovering other book bloggers beyond your intimate “inner circle”. Whenever I see someone celebrating a blogoversary I try to figure out when mine is. I started blogging for my school library, but felt like that was part of my job. So I’ll go right now and figure out when my first post was for my personal book blog…
Oh good Helen – I think it is a wonderful mile stone for each of us to remember. My life has literally changes a lot this past year because of this. I have always wanted to be a writer and initially I blogged to use that as an outlet…. now I feel I am moving ahead on that dream. (More about that on a later date) 😀
Ha! You got up early compared to me. I didn’t set my alarm last night because I’ve got a cold and woke up at 9 a.m.! Not that it much matters because I have no energy anyway. But it does kind of cut into my reading time!
Lisa I usually don’t use an alarm unless I have to be up super early. I have an internal alarm that almost always has me up about 6 or 6:30 am.
Its the days that I have no commitment that my body says “whatever”. LOL
Congrats on your upcoming (1) year milestone; mine will be (2) years at the end of the month.
Thanks Diane!
I’m glad to hear the mailman finally showed up with your remaining books! Isn’t it awesome to have them all in the house? I am simply posting pictures of mine, no way I can list them all. And happy almost blogoversary 🙂
Amy, I will share in my mailbox post about this last box…LOL poor mailman!
Yayy, Happy Blogoversary!!
Thanks April 🙂
Just think of all the posts and reviews you have done in that time. Celebrate well. I’ll be thinking of you while we are in Key West. Maybe that B&B will have internet for more than 15 min.
Enjoy opening the box. It’ll be a mini-Christmas. I love getting the books I ship home.
Argh! my time is running out.
I know Pat – it is pretty crazy to think about. Crossing my fingers that you will find some free internet in your travels!
Congrats on your upcoming blogoversary.
I was shocked the first time I got a blog comment from someone I didn’t know. Some random person would actually read about my family and my ramblings?!?
