  1. Yeah I had to run to the store. I did most of my reading in the living room. I was hoping to win a book but I doubt that will happen beacuse my blog site is untouched

  2. ^_^ Nice, simple challenge, how wonderful!

My read-a-thon was off to a bit of a rocky start (darn life’s obligations!), but the last half of it has been awesome. I went to a cafe for a few hours, and then a late-night diner, but now I’m cozying up back at home for the final stretch.

Good luck with the tail end of the read-a-thon!

  3. Well I was able to escape it otherwise but I have this school paper to do and I could not escape it… even if I would have wanted to. But I am still pretty happy about the amount of time I was able to spend reading.

I did all of the reading my room sitting on my precious blue arm chair. It must be the best chair in the whole world. 😀

Nope, I’ve been at home for the whole time.

Good luck with the rest of the challenge!

  4. ah, thank you for the simplicity. it is much appreciated at this hour!

i did a pretty good job of getting away from the normal hectic routine. my bf was very considerate and didn’t bother me at all! i camped out on my couch most of the day and only took short breaks to take the dog out and eat. the farthest i went today was to the mailbox to see if i had any goodies. 🙂

    thanks for hosting the giveaway!

  5. I wasn’t able to avoid the hustle and bustle of life, since I have three kids! But, they knew I was busy reading/cheerleading, so they didn’t talk to me as much as usual.

I divided up my time equally in the armchair by the fireplace, and reading/cheering sitting in my computer chair.

I had to leave the house a couple times to provide chauffer services for my kids activities :-). I was out for a total of 2.5 hours, I think.

    Thanks for hosting the mini-challenges!

  6. I was able to devote my whole day to the readathon. I haven’t felt sleepy once and am having a blast. I did all of my reading at home in the living room and dining room. I left my house twice-to walk to the library to get more audiobooks and later in the evening I walked to the coffeeshop for a power chai.

  7. Well, I wasn’t able to escape the hustle and bustle, because I am very easily distracted and I took more breaks than were really called for.

I did most of my reading in my bedroom, sitting on the bed – though I got through some pages while I was cooking and then I also took a bath with bubbles and did a bit of reading in there.

The only time I left the house was at the very beginning of the read-a-thon to buy lunch and snacks – should have done that BEFORE the read-a-thon, I know!

Good luck with the reading, and the challenge!

  8. So I started 9 hours late (I miscalculated earlier and thought it was 8), but I did do one reader like activity…I went to a Friends of the Library sale! I had a rocky start because my kids were bothering me (told you I needed a hotel room). Once they were in bed, it was a bit more successful!

I am reading in my domain…my library. 🙂

As I mentioned above, I went to the sale, went to lunch with my mom and then had to go to grocery store for snacks. Sadly, I didn’t have any money until Saturday so couldn’t get my snacks until then. But I’m planning on attempting to read on Sunday until my original start time…4pm…even after the read-a-thon is officially over! We’ll see…

  9. I mostly read on the futon in my living room. I also read a little on my bed while my roommate and my boyfriend watched some tv in the afternoon, and I read a bit on the subway and in the car on the way to games night.

The only times I left the house were to go pick up more pop and go for a walk in the mid-afternoon, and to go to games night at a friends’ house that I had already committed to before signing up for the read-a-thon.

  10. Were you able to escape the hustle and bustle of life?
Yes definitely.. The only thing in my mind was to read and to read more =)

Where did you do the majority of your reading?
There is a couch in front of a big window that covers the whole wall. I’ve been reading there for the most part of the read-a-ton. It has a table next to it and a lamp. Everything I needed =)

Did you leave the house (or wherever you were) at any time during the challenge?
    No I didn’t.. And I’m glad I didn’t =)

  11. I agree.. thanks for simplicity:

    1. Yes I was able to escpae the hustle and bustle… after 3pm. Before that no.
    2. I read almost excuslively on the couch. I walked and read when I was tired and was on the bed for 20 minutes before hubby went to sleep.
    3. Yes I left the house twice. Once for a birthday party and once to walk to the store (as part of a mini-challenge)

  12. 1. yes, which kind of surprised me. I was expecting some family to call & have me make travel reservations for them. So glad they didn’t. 🙂
    2. In my livingroom (on the floor or futon). I thought I was going to spend most of my time in my bedroom.
    3. Never left.

  13. I wasn’t entirely able to escape the hustle and bustle of life, or rather the hustle and bustle of the previous week caught up with me and I ended up sleeping away a few hours of the read-a-thon. Ah well.

I’ve done most of my reading on the living room sofa, or seated at the kitchen table.

Nope, I’ve been a hermit and stayed in all day.

Thanks for hosting the mini-challenge. I hope you’ve had a great day!

  14. it was great to have my blogging and real life buddy Anna from DIary of an Eccentric come over with her daughter and we all had snacks and a great time reading and making videos with The Girl’s cheers.

I read on the porch and in my new reading chair.

I left the house to go to the morning library sale and get more books on the cheap and to take the dog out to do his duties!

    thanks for a great minichallenge

  15. 1. I am bummed that I didn’t get much reading done. Life interrupted. I didn’t escape the hustle and bustle.
    2. I read on the coach when the kiddos and my Mom were asleep usually in the wee hours of the morning.
    3. I left several times.

On the upside – I have different plans for the next read-a-thon!

  16. I love unplugging from the cell phone, the TV, and the News. Just having a luxurious guilt-free reading day.

I did most of the reading on one of the couches or the happy green chair.

I did leave for about 4 hours for my artists meeting. Being an extravert, that was a good thing.

  17. Were you able to escape the hustle and bustle of life?

Yes. I warned everyone ahead of time and they were very good about it. What kept me from reading mostly was trying to figure out the blogging (first day of blog — there were things that took me a bit of time to figure out. And then, of course, I got immersed in the challenges…
Where did you do the majority of your reading?

Mostly on my bed.. I’d hoped to read outside but although the day was sunny the temperature was too cool. I did some reading in the living room on the couch but mostly on the bed because the books were spread out there and the cat was curled up.

Did you leave the house (or wherever you were) at any time during the challenge? No

  18. I escaped the hustle and bustle as much as possible with a 6 year old daughter, construction workers, and dog-sitting. 🙂

I did the majority of my reading on the couch in a lovely sun-filled room where we are house-sitting.

I was thinking I’d try to sit on the porch for part of my reading, but didn’t even make it that far! Too bad, cause it’ll be a lot harder to do that in October, I’m guessing.

  19. Nice challenge. I was not able to escape the hustle and bustle of life in the form of my toddler. But I organized a little play date for me at the house, with help of course and so was able to read for a while. I did most of my reading in my armchair in my room. I visited my mother and was able to do some reading on her bed!

  20. I’ve been holed up in my apartment all day. I had intended to take a walk outside to go to the store but decided I would rather read

most of my reading has been done sitting on my bed although I did indulge and spend a gloriously long time soaking in the bathtub while engrossed in my novel

    thanks for the challenge

  21. I’ve definitely learned my lesson from this challenge: don’t participate if you can’t really participate. I had work scheduled, and we already had two people call in sick this weekend (actually, one was quarantined), so there wasn’t any way for me to get out of work. So, 9/24 hours were spent there, and I was only able to read for like 2 of them.

Once I got home, I camped out in my wonderful papasan chair and started reading. But with my two little sisters bugging me every so often, it was a challenging matter.

And now, for the last hour and a half of the challenge, I’ll be out of the house again and unable to update 😦

Next time I’m making sure that I don’t have a huge time commitment come read-a-thon day. Or, you know, maybe I’ll just have my own read-a-thon on a weekend when I know I don’t have anything going on 🙂

  22. Were you able to escape the hustle and bustle of life?
Definitely. And it felt great to spend 24 hour just for me!

Where did you do the majority of your reading?
    Couch

Did you leave the house (or wherever you were) at any time during the challenge?
Hubby wanted to run errands so I took a book along with me for the ride

  23. 1. to escape the hustle and bustle of life would imply that i have a hustling and bustling life to begin with lol
    2. i did the majority of my reading on the futon in the guest room, the papasan chair in my living room, and my bed. at one point i sat myself outside for a while–it was quite lovely, with a warm breeze, but the sun got to be too much for me (i live in a desert)
    3. i left the house to get the mail, and that was it!

this was a nice, simple idea for a challenge 🙂

  24. Yay for easy challenges this last stretch of the Read-a-Thon~ 😉 I say you deserve a for that. ❤

    And, here's my post.

Less than 2 hours~ Let’s do this! XDD

    Kihana

  25. Were you able to escape the hustle and bustle of life?
I actually spent the whole 24 hours immersed in reading and blogging and tweeting. It was great!

Where did you do the majority of your reading?
On my couch and in bed! It was nice and comfy!

Did you leave the house (or wherever you were) at any time during the challenge?

I read at mcdonalds, the library, my mother-in-laws apartment, outside, in the car. I scene changed a lot today..haha.

  26. 1. Yes, totally cut off anything that’s not read-a-thon related…so good to be able to do that!

    2. I did most of the reading at my favorite char, but did move around quite a bit this time to the kitchen, couch, bed etc..

    3. Nope never left the house.

  27. Really awesomely simple challenge. 😀

Sadly, I didn’t manage to escape life as I know it. I did try to do all the chores before entering the read-a-thon battlefield, so the stress is less than what I experienced the in the past. 😀

Most of my reading were done in my room, in bed, because the event starts in the evening in my side of the world. I’m actually out right now, leeching the wireless internet in the mall while reading through my last book for this read-a-thon season and doing some cheering for other readers.

    Go read-a-thoners, go! 😀

  28. For some of the time I could but my attention was often required elsewhere so fully immersing myself in the stories has been difficult. I split my time between sitting on the sofa and by the computer (when I wanted to update and then got back to reading and didn’t want to move again). I’ve been inside the whole time.

  29. I didn’t escape the hustle and bustle. I read in the living room in my chair and on the floor.
I left the house to take my daughter to dance and to the mall.

  30. Were you able to escape the hustle and bustle of life?
I was able to stay at home and just escape. Those few times everyone started talking I had to remind them I was reading.

Where did you do the majority of your reading?
I sat in my favorite rocking chair

Did you leave the house (or wherever you were) at any time during the challenge? No I did not leave, I had my snacks and whatever I needed.

  31. (I don’t see my answers, so trying again)

Were you able to escape the hustle and bustle of life?
Yes, I just stayed at home.

Where did you do the majority of your reading?
At home, in my living room, in the rocking chair

Did you leave the house (or wherever you were) at any time during the challenge? Nope, I had everything I needed with me.

  32. I was able to escape, I had a very relaxing day.
I read some in my chair, but a lot outside, which was really nice.
I did leave the house. We went out to lunch!

  33. I was able to escape the hustle and bustle of life. I enjoyed being curled up in my recliner reading my book and reading the updates on blogs. I did leave the house to run some errands (grocery, pet store, and library).

  34. Were you able to escape the hustle and bustle of life?
Yes, for the most part of it I did manage too.

Where did you do the majority of your reading?
I did it in my house though I did spend a substantial part of the day in the library and in Barnes and Nobles

Did you leave the house (or wherever you were) at any time during the challenge?
Yes, I commuted between these places just to take a break.. but that was it. Oh ya, I did the walking challenge as well and managed to take a stroll for 20 minutes

    http://readingbetweenpages.wordpress.com/

  35. I’ve really enjoyed this!

I was able to participate fully and avoid any obligations except for walking the dog.

I read in my chair by the fire most of the time and was able to go out on the deck for a little while, too.

I stayed home all day and I did give in and slept for about 41/2 hours, though.

  36. I escaped nothing: I’m in the process of moving in and I just had too many things to do before the week starts. I had to run out and buy laundry things, kitchen things… everything! Moving to another country is a lot different from moving with your boxes of comfort. When I snagged time to read, I read on the only operational furniture I have: the bizarrely plastic couch that came with the apartment!

  37. “Were you able to escape the hustle and bustle of life? Where did you do the majority of your reading? Did you leave the house (or wherever you were) at any time during the challenge?”

I’m retired, so any hustle and bustle is self-made. I read mostly in bed or sitting on the sofa. I left the house for a walk, and that’s all.

  38. I *try* to escape life in small, locally owned coffee shops. I get a nice drink, sink into a comfortable chair (All the best coffee shops have comfortable chairs!), put in my headphones and read. It’s the best!

I actually read the first couple of hours at work during the read-a-thon, but that’s never uninterrupted because I have patrons coming in needing help. I then spent an hour or so reading outside, but the wind chased me back indoors!

  39. I did the majority of my reading on my couch in my living room or in the kitchen, waiting for food to cook. I did venture outside a couple times to give some lovin’ to my poor neglected dog and to get the mail. I also went outside to read…about 2 minutes before it started raining, so back in the house I went!

I don’t really feel like today was an escape because I did so much blogging. This wasn’t the hunker-down-and-read day that I thought it would be, but it was still a lot of fun!

  40. Were you able to escape the hustle and bustle of life?
Yes, totally. I prepared ahead, stayed home with my books and just read and blogged.
Where did you do the majority of your reading?
Right in my livingroom, either in my chair or the couch, my daughter was here for it and we kept switching places.
Did you leave the house (or wherever you were) at any time during the challenge? Nope, my hubby even went for pizza for us!

  41. This was my favorite Readathon. I only left the house once, to go to a wedding shower (that I discovered is actually for today, but that’s another story!) I had the fun French music going…my husband zipped out and surprised me with croissants and gelato for snacks…and I finished four French-ish books! My favorite part was visiting lots and lots of wonderful book blogs. Happy Day!

  42. Hi, Sheila! I was “unofficially” doing the Read-a-Thon, since I didn’t sign up for it anywhere, but I tried to follow along in the spirit of it.

I had to go out for a bit to run an errand, and then when I got home, someone dropped in on me (from out of town) so we visited a bit. But then she had to go somewhere, so I got back into it. Interrupted time: about an hour and a half.

Mostly I read on my comfy couch, although I sat at my Coca Cola table to read while I ate lunch.

Later in the evening, I read in my bedroom, which usually works out okay, except the temptation to sleep is there! I did go to sleep for a couple of hours, but then read some more.

  43. Were you able to escape the hustle and bustle of life? Oh yes:) I was holed up in bedroom all day:)
Where did you do the majority of your reading? In my bedroom sitting in my comfy chair or lounging on my bed.
Did you leave the house (or wherever you were) at any time during the challenge? No. I stayed home all day.

This was a lot of fun. I can’t wait for the next one:)

  44. Were you able to escape the hustle and bustle of life?
Yes, and it was great not having any obligations aside from the read-a-thon.

Where did you do the majority of your reading?
    Laid up in my bed.

Did you leave the house (or wherever you were) at any time during the challenge?
    Nope, stayed home all day!

  45. I wasn’t able to participate in the readathon, so do not enter me in the drawing. Hopefully, at another time you’ll hold another one and I’ll be able to join you.
It sounds like it was a lot of fun. I may just have my own mini-readathon one of these days.
    Congratulations to everyone who participated.

  46. I knew I had a lot to do that day so I didn’t officially sign up. I unofficially participated. So no, I was not able to escape the hustle and bustle. I did most of my reading at my computer desk so that I could check out some of the participating blogs. I left the house a lot to go outside to work in the garden.
