When Lola comes home to her parents’ house to find a horde of relatives mourning her death, no one is more surprised than she is. The news had reported that one Lola Cruz, PI was found murdered in an alley, causing great alarm in the Cruz family. Before Lola can say “boo,” a cop comes to the house. It turns out the dead woman had a driver’s license with Lola’s information. Between avoiding an unsavory ex-boyfriend, sorting out mixed signals from the very interested but not yet committed Jack Callaghan, and filling in as a waitress at her parents’ Mexican restaurant, Lola tries to find out who the woman was and why she stole her identity. Was the woman hiding from someone who meant her harm, or is there someone out there who wants Lola dead?
This follow-up to Ramirez’s debut novel, Living the Vida Lola, is a red-hot, fun-filled mystery. Lola, a black belt in kung fu who loves to salsa dance, makes for a sexy, unique, and vivacious detective.
I read this book in late 2009 and loved the wonderful, full of life character that is Lola. Starting out by walking in on her own wake. Yes – her own wake! And the craziness does not stop there… page by page you fall in love with this fun loving family and everything they bring along with them.
I really picked up on a Janet Evanovich “Stephanie Plum” type vibe in this book so if you are a fan of the great Evanovich series, I believe you will be rolling with laughter at this one as well.

I’d read this book with a glass of water (I don’t drink and water just seems to do the trick for me) curled up in bed with no parents, children, or dog to interrupt me.

My favorite place to read is my bed surrounded by lots of pillows and with my little dog cuddling- so that’s where I would be, in my bed, with my dog, on a rainy day with the window cracked open so I can hear the rain falling and smell the rain. I would have an ice cold pepsi, and a snack of cheese puffs, or tangerines. Tangy, sweet, tart tangerines. That is my most relaxing way of reading.
BTW I just saw this book while cruising the web, last month or so and would love to read this, along with the second book. Being a half-latina I think I could relate to this Lola.
I’d probably be on the couch by the fireplace, with a cup of strong coffee! (But a beach in Puerto Vallarta would be good too!)
Oohh .. love the sound of this book! Believe it or not, I will be in my bed, with a hot cup of tea to refresh myself! I wish I had a more dramatic answer!

I would probably take it on vacation the end of May. I’ll start it poolside at our hotel with raspberry iced tea, and finish it up in a deck chair with a strawberry margarita on the 3 day cruise the end of the vacation.
I’ve seen both books mentioned. This one sounds like a lot of fun.. I like suspense, and love books with a sense of humor.

In my fanciful world, I’d be in a shaded plazita on some Caribbean island, preferably Puerto Rico, with lush waves crashing in the background along with subtle notes of a melodic vallenato tune played by local street musicians. Next to me on the stone bench that I sit upon, aged to perfection through revolutions and peace, would be a crisp mojito in a frosty glass showing signs of soft perspiration, with clear paths of where water droplet passed along lazily.
In reality, I’d be on my couch with my mojito minus the crispness because I used a mix and couldn’t find fresh mint sprigs. =( Oh well lucky for me I have an active imagination and can picture the latter scenario. 😉
