Morning Meanderings

aaI woke up this morning to a great smelling pot of coffee (if you have not tried Cameron’s Chocolate Covered Cherries coffee – bagged by the bean, I would highly recommend it.  Smooth and not bitter.)  LOL I sound like a commercial!

I was reading the Amazon top ten list for 2009 this morning… not the editor’s picks, but the customers picks.  It is funny as the two lists are so different and looking over the Editors picks, I seen a couple I would consider reading and on the customers list there were more I would like to read as well as some I have.  I had read none on the Editors List.

aa1.  The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown: This would be a “yeah I want to read it” for me.  I am excited as I have actually won this book when I participated in the Dewey’s Read A Thon last month and won in hour 10!  I cant wait to receive it!

aa2. Liberty and Tyranny:  A Conservative Manifesto by Mark Levin – This one holds no interest for me.

aa3.  Glenn Beck’s Common Sense – The Case Against An Out Of Control Government Inspired By Thomas Paine  : Again, this one I would pass on.

aa4.  Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man by Steve Harvey. Uhhhhh…. no.  I am good.  Thanks though.

aa5.  The Help By Katherine Stockett. yes, yes – 1,ooo times yes!  In my opinion, this should have been number one on this list.  The book is amazing!  Dont miss out on this book!

aa6.  Eat This, Not That by David Zinczenco. I read this earlier on this year and it is a fantastic book.  This is one I will return to again and again.  Considering my recent eating habits… I should probably turn to it soon.

aa7.  Diary Of A Wimpy Kid, The Last Straw by Jeff Kinney. These look great and I have not had the opportunity to read any of them.  Have you?

aa8.  Dead and Gone by Charlaine Harris (Sookie Stackhouse book 9). I haven’t read any of these yet either.  I know!  I have heard such good things and once I get one in my hot little hand I am going to read it!

aa9.  The Last Olympian by Rick Riordan. I honestly dont think I have ever even heard of this one.  It looks readable but I have no background info on it and dont recall seeing it in the reviews I have read.

aa10. Cook Yourself Thin by Lifetime Television. I would buy this for sure.  I like these type of cook books and am always looking for healthy recipes.

So… which have you read?

Which would you like to read?

What books are not on this top ten customers choice that you would have put on it?

a big improvement

  1. Of course, I’ve read “The Help,” and I’m glad it’s on the list. I think I would consider “Dead and Gone” and the cookbook. I also like healthy recipes.

Funny that none of Jodi Picoult’s books are there. I know Dan Brown is often on these lists, but I’m not a fan.

    1. HI Laurel! Yes – you wrote a great review of The Help! I have enjoyed Dan Browns work since The Davinchi Code…. I really liked the puzzles and how they work them out…..

  2. The Last Olympian is the last book in the series of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. It’s a YA series and a good one. It’s on Greek mythology in modern day setting.

I still have to read Lost Symbol

  3. I have absolutely no desire to read the Levin or Beck book. Beck actually gives me a headache when I try to listen to him. I”m not sure what would happen if I tried to read something he wrote.

The Percy Jackson book is wonderful. These are some of my son’s favorite books to have read to him.

  4. I did read The Lost Symbol and if you are familiar with Davinci Code, it will be what you want it to be–lots of interesting factoids and lots of action.

The Last Olympian is wonderful! However, being the final book in the series–you should go back and begin with The Lightning Thief! I heartily recommend the series.

    1. Hi Julie – yeah, thats what I like – the puzzles and the mind games…. love that.

I am going to have to see how many books are in the Last Olympian series…. I hate it when I am behind…. do many books and all that 🙂

    1. heindenkind, meh? LOL 🙂 Have you read any of his other books and did you like them?

I am wondering if they are comparable as I did enjoy Davinchi and Angels and Demons.

  5. I loved The Lost Symbol. It moved me. It’s not really about Freemason’s either. It’s a much more interesting story, especially how it unfold.

I will be reading The Help after the first of they year.

I know several people who have read Mark Levin’s Liberty and Tyranny and found extremely interesting.

  6. Hmmm, I don’t think I’d realized the two sets of lists — am going to go check out the editor’s list next. Glenn Beck? No thanks. I’ll see if our library has the “Cook Yourself Thin” book so I can check it out before plunking down cash. I’d forgotten about “The Help,” and am about to proceed to my library site — I’d read rave reveiws of it elsewhere. Have finished “Lost Symbol” — it was OK. I like all the scientific aspects, especially the idea of the power of thought, which so fascinates the Katherine character. Brown took a lot of that from a real-life science author, Lynne McTaggart, and her book, “The Intention Experiment. (I love stuff like this.) All the experiments and equipment Brown describes in HIS book are described in MCTAGGART’S book, and are used by real-life scientists.

Thanks for all the book recommendations!
