Morning Meanderings… Last day to Register for BBAW (Book Blogger Appreciation Week)

Good morning!  😀

It’s a beautiful Saturday here in Central Minnesota… the kind that calls me outside to my bike.  I have the bike locked and loaded on the jeep for later today – but first I have a baby shower today and a house-warming.  Both early enough in the day so that I will still have later afternoon to ride a bit.

I also wanted to remind everyone that today is the last day to register for BBAW.  I too have to do this today… it’s been crazy busy around here and as soon as I am done writing this post I am going to get busy on that as I think you need to set a little time aside to do it.  Be sure to read the Awards Process page  and then on to the registration page , you will need a Google account or your twitter ID to log in.

Once logged in (I used my Twitter Id – it seamed easier)  I backed out, then went into that same page and now had a nominations link.  That is what I am working on now.

If you have not participated in BBAW before, I recommend you do.  It gives you an opportunity to recognize the blogs you love to read.  It really is fun and I love the community of book bloggers!  😀  Remember – today is the last day to register your blog and nominate.

In other news… as I love to participate in Alyce’s Saturday Snapshot meme,  thought I would use a few pictures from Honduras since it looks like I may be leading a team there in November of this year.  Honduras is always an amazing experience, and a country that in many parts, is extremely poorish.

Kids in the Tegucigalpa Dump

How cute are these kids? They would come and watch us work every day.

A shot of the landing strip. Tegucigalpa has one of the shortest landing strips in the world due to the mountains. A captain must fly the planes in to Tegucigalpa.

The flowers and plants of Honduras are GORGEOUS

So that’s it for this morning… Have a great day!  😀

Morning Meanderings… A BIG Bike Ride for a great cause

Today I am starting a two day ride for Camp Benedict, the ride I participate in for families infected of affected by AIDS/HIV.  We will start at 8 am this morning and bike 75 miles (with an option to do 100) to camp, then we get up Sunday morning and bike the 75 miles back to Brainerd.

It’s a great ride and a wonderful team.

For Saturday Snapshots (Check out Alyce’s blog, At Home With Books for more info) I thought I would post a few pics from last years ride…

Our team 2010
Friend and co-rider last year - Sheila W and Sheila D 🙂
Where we stay overnight (I know... so spoiled!)
Final stop on the way back (day two) me and Connie in the front. Connie is the organizer of the ride and the camp.

See you all tomorrow afternoon 😀

Morning Meanderings… Them’s The Breaks…

Good morning 😀

If you followed yesterday mornings post you would have read that I was UBER excited for my doctor’s appointment for the “6 weeks and get your cast off” appointment.  Summer has been slightly WARMER when it feels like you are constantly wearing a sweater over your left arm.

Yet – after the removal of the cast and the x-rays that followed, my doctor was not liking the lack of cartilage around the break.  Apparently, the cartilage is what protects the bones and with out that building up like it should I am overly susceptible to break my finger again.

Not cool for this girl who wants her life back.

My doctor said he wanted to have an orthopedic surgeon (henceforth known as: O.S. as this is two long words and I am typing completely with my right hand)  look at it so that is my next step coming up on Monday afternoon.  I am told one of two things will happen:

1.  O.S. will say that I just need to keep the cast on a while longer to fully heal.

2.  O.S. says this is not working, I go in for surgery, they re-break my finger and put pins in it so it will be stronger.

PLEASE help me pray for door #1.

I came home pretty distraught yesterday afternoon.  I actually cried for the first time during this whole accident.  But… going into late afternoon, after reading on my deck for a while, doing a little shopping, and an iced coffee…  I have come to terms with what will be… will be.

So… that said…

where does that leave me with today’s previously scheduled Warrior dash event that I have been signed up for since January?

Well…. I am back and forth.  I am going and I am at least cheering my friend on.  However, looking at the route, I think I can still do most of it, as long as I can go around the things that require me to use my hand.  I will be talking to the registration people when I get there today.  I am still undecided.

Have a great Saturday – whatever I do I should have some pretty interesting pictures for tomorrow mornings post.

Morning Meanderings… A Look Into My Saturday

Good morning!  I am sitting here with COFFEE CUP this morning reflecting over the past week.

It was… a good one.

On Tuesday we had our annual Queen Event for Book Club, on Thursday I went to the midnight showing of Harry Potter… the final movie.

July 2011 - Bookies Queen Event

I think that is a pretty good week.  😛

This morning I reflected a bit on my yard.  I love love love my back yard.  So for The Saturday Snapshot over at Alyce’s At Home With Books,  I went around this morning with the camera…

The view of my back deck. My favorite summer reading place is on this deck. I love the shrubbery around it... it gives it the feel of a sanctuary in the middle of a forest.
Apples coming in on the tree we planted 8 years ago to replace trees we lost in the tornado.

The two Silver Maples in the center of this pic are also replacement trees.
...and one of the hostas along side the house.

As for my weekend… today I have planned to finish the lawn, finish a book.  Hubby and I may go for a motorcycle ride later, or a movie.  Tomorrow I am doing the Tour Of Saints bike ride with my friend Amy, the first bike ride since my accident in early June.  I am excited to get back on track.

Any fun weekend plans?  I would love to hear what you are doing this weekend in your corner of the world!  😛

Morning Meandering: Hang On It’s Going To Be A BUMPY RIDE!

Good morning all.  I am sitting here with COFFEE CUP enjoying the absolute quiet of my home before the day explodes.

Ahhhhh…..

silence.  😛

In an hour I need to leave for Camp Jim where I will be organizing a potluck picnic with some amazing people.  Picnic starts at 4 pm.  I hope to be out by 7 – 7:30 and home.

Tomorrow is kick off to our serving week with the homeless.  Currently 17 people in the program in out county.  I need to purchase food and pick them up at 4:30 where my friend Jennifer and I will be staying with them on the 3rd and the 4th.  I have volunteers lined up for the rest of the week beyond that with me just popping in around 4:30 – 5:30 each day.

So that’s my next three days.  Taking a book along?  Yes.  Currently I am finishing up Escape From Zobadak which is pretty good.  I am having a hard time putting it down! 😀

For Alyce’s Saturday Snapshot I have a couple of pics from a couple of weeks ago when my friends and I were in Wisconsin Dells.

Good times!  Stop over at Alyce’s blog and link to your own Saturday Snapshots!  😀

I have another post to write before I head out here so need to move…. in the meantime enjoy the “bumpy ride” scene from Harry Potter (sssqqquuueeeee – 13 days!!) Yup… that looks about the way I feel.  😛

Morning Meanderings…Chicago Recap and A Road Trip

Good Morning!  😀

I fully expected to be on the road by now, sNOOKie and I are road tripping to Barnes and Noble this morning.  Sadly, this really is a road trip as B & N is in St Cloud, about an hour away from me.  I am hoping to get there early enough to talk with the NOOK representative and learn more about my NOOK….

then I just want to browse…  😀

Last week I went to Chicago with three of my friends for a much longer (MUCH LONGER – 10 hours) road trip.  It was a lot of fun and even though the arm cast was a hindrance, I am so glad I went.

For Alyce’s Saturday Snapshot, I bring these pics from the trip:  (go to the snapshot link and join in the fun!)

Ok – I am out.  Have an awesome day!  😀

Morning Meanderings… And now for something kind of cool…

Good morning!  😀

It’s raining here in Central Minnesota this morning, supposed to the entire weekend – and for once I really do not care.  Sure I had hoped to dive into the hosta garden today and love on that, but there is always next weekend.  Today I really should focus on packing and looking for the NOOK charger, and making a list of things not to forget before I haul myself to Minneapolis tomorrow late afternoon, to catch an early flight Monday morning to New York.

BUT TODAY – is not about that…. today… I have a couple of fun things to share.  😛

First, recently WordPress made an upgrade that allows us to add our Google Calendar to our blog.  I didn’t even know how SSQQQUUUEEEE that was until I really thought about it.  Here is part of beauty of that… I have three email addresses.  My home/personal one, my work one, and a book one.  The book one is the one I use to communicate with you, and with authors and publishers, and it is the one that the book requests go to.  Since it is not my default email – many times book tours I have committed to, honestly can be forgotten as I do not always have time to connect with the book emails every day.  HOWEVER – I do seem to find time to connect with this blog every day.  SO – by adding the calendar to my blog – I can put the upcoming tours on it for me, and you as readers of this blog to peek to see upcoming events too… such as:

  1. Wordshaker group review date
  2. If I am attending a particular author event
  3. If I am participating in a meme, read a thon, etc….

I don’t know – I am just excited.  So you can find it in the future by clicking the new Events tab at the top of this blog…. but for today you can also link to it here.

If you want to know how to do this yourself – feel free to check that out here:  WordPress and Google Calendar.

Next – and this one is for Alyce’s Saturday Snapshot – which is a fun thing to do every Saturday!  A couple of weeks ago out town had a Positive Charge event.  Over a three day period anyone in town could come to this particular photographer who was heading this and write on a piece of poster board what was so awesome about our town.  Once you made a poster, you had your picture taken.  Over 1,000 people/groups participated.  These posters will be hung all over town, and some made into billboards.  It was actually exciting to see the turn out of our community for this event…

Here is the one I did
This is the one my Pastor did (Way to go Mark!)
This is Don, a friend and fellow bike lover!
Did you know that this years Super Bowl half time show costumes for the dancers were made right here in Brainerd Minnesota?

Ok… That’s my post!  Hope your day is wonderful and productive!  😀

Morning Meanderings… Real Sour Cream? No contest!

Good morning!

I feel like I am sleeping soooo much lately.  I used to stay up until midnight (and after) almost nightly and be up by 6 no problem and do it again.  As of the past month seems like I can not stay up past ten without drifting off and then I am sleeping to 6:30 unless I make myself get up to get things done.

Enough of that…. today I want to talk about sour cream.  I know, right?

I try ( emphasis on TRY) to eat healthy and make healthier food choices when I am at the grocery store.  As a standard, I will purchase for our household the light sour cream and if it is just for me, I buy the fat-free.  Apparently it has been a long LONG time since I have had Real full fat sour cream.

As I mentioned yesterday, Thursday evening I went with my cousins to a restaurant called Poncho and Lefty’s.  It is a nice place to eat in Baxter Minnesota and one of my favorite things to get there is the chicken nacho’s.  You can get a half order which is still HUGE and I share it with my cousin Cheryl.  This week, I brought the leftovers home for Al and ummm…. well, they never got to him.  😳

At home as I am picking through the to go container I am marveling at the texture and taste of the sour cream and thinking, “what is with this sour cream, does it come from magic cows?” Yes.  It was that good.

Then it dawned on me…. its REAL sour cream and not the stuff I eat that is a sour cream IMPOSTOR, tasteless and nowhere near as creamy, fluffy…..

Oh…. I am not sure I can go back to the stuff in the frig.  😛

Chicken Nachos - SOOOO GOOD!

Ok… for Alyce’s wonderful Saturday Snapshot I have to (I HAVE TO) use a picture from last weekend and I apologize to my frequent visitors that have already seen these pictures but I am still going a little “Whoa…. can’t believe I did that!”  😀  For those of you that have not been here and are thinking WHAT IS SHE DOING AND WHY?  AND WHILE WE ARE AT IT WHY IS SHE WEARING A YELLOW PROM DRESS THAT MAKES HER LOOK LIKE BO PEEP?  You are welcome to click here to read about the Polar Plunge.

You can also go to Alyce’s website and feel free to link to your own Saturday Snapshot.

There is no turning back now...

I am in!

Today promises laundry to fold, a large tub to store (LONG STORY), a trip to the library, a possible (POSSIBLE) drive to the bike trail with my hiking boots to scope out what is happening and when will the snow go away, more Floor Hockey recruiting, steaks and potatoes for dinner, and helping at church tonight sell Missions Banquet tickets for the service tonight and all three tomorrow, and I have to start making a dent in Cutting For Stone.

Whats in store for you today?

Morning Meanderings…. It’s “P” Day!

Good morning!

Current temperature in Minnesota….

I am leaving here shortly to drive 2 1/2 hours to put on a prom dress and then plunge into the water with my team the Snow Queens to raise money for Special Olympics.

Yup…

today should be interesting.

I think on my way home I get to treat myself to a book store stop.  😀

As for my picture today for Alyce’s Saturday Snapshot…here is a fun one from last February.  Al (hubby) and I were at an equipment auction in Florida.  We had been there ALL DAY walking and walking and walking looking at equipment for our business.  I was trying hard to be a team player but I was exhausted from all the staring at big yellow things.  😀  After I took this picture and showed it to him he said he could have done the same thing when I was in the book stores.  He said he could have laid on the floor and piled himself with books.  LOL… I wish he would have.  😛

This is what happens when you are at an equipment show too long 🙂

Final morning thought… I chose a winner this morning from yesterdays “Choose the next book I read” post.  I used random.org and the winner is:

Sarah E who chose Rooftops of Tehran

I will be reading this book over the next week and once complete I will mail it to you!  Congratulations!  😀

See everyone tomorrow.  I will respond to comments later tonight after I am home… dry… and warm.  😀

Morning Meanderings… From The North Shore

Ok….

First off brrrr….

I started my car this morning to drive into town from the cabin for internet service and it was -13.  That’s a negative.

But – I am here…

and that’s a positive.

Last time I was at the cabin was the first weekend of November when we had a girls baking and crafting weekend here.  I made it to the cabin yesterday around 3:00 pm…. got settled and watched a little tv. set up my paperwork, read a little…. and promptly fell asleep.  😯

Ok… so much for day one.

However today is a new day and I am excited to get started.  I am in a little cafe in Silver Bay Minnesota.  There is a table of 4 older men… and another table of a family.  I am the only one with a laptop…. much as it has been any time that I have come in here for internet.  Even the internet is mine… we have Verizon so I get internet wherever I have phone service.

There is a new sign in the cafe.  It reads:

“No Work Boots Allowed In This Dining Room!”

If I ever do write that fictional story in my head – that line above has to go in it somewhere.   😛

Today when I go back to the cabin I will be writing the day away.  I am ready.

Tomorrow morning I need to head back home early as it is our week serving the homeless and I have to help set up at noon.  I plan to be on the road about 7 am.

But – I still have today.  😀

For my picture today for Alice’s Saturday Snapshot I leave you with this:

Ahhhh….. the North Shore.  😉
