Literary Blog Hop – In It To Win It!!!!

Literary Blog Hop, My Book Self Book Journey. Wolf Hall

Woot!  Give it up for a literary blog hop!  This time around the hop is hosted by My Book Self, stop over there and check out the other participants.

I am scraping in at the last minute here, setting up my post but I did want to participate as there are some great literary fiction reads out there that you (and I!) should not miss!

I am giving away a beautiful copy of:

Wolf Hall, Book Journey, giveaway, literary fiction

Feel free to “oooh” and “ahhhhh”.  Yes, Wolf Hall the winner of the Man Book Prize in 2009 and now about to become a mini series on PBS.  Considered to be a mix between Downton Abby and Game Of Thrones, I think we are in for a real treat.  I know I will be watching!

Here is what the book is about:

Winner of the Man Booker Prize 2009 ‘Lock Cromwell in a deep dungeon in the morning,’ says Thomas More, ‘and when you come back that night he’ll be sitting on a plush cushion eating larks’ tongues, and all the gaolers will owe him money.’ England, the 1520s. Henry VIII is on the throne, but has no heir. Cardinal Wolsey is his chief advisor, charged with securing the divorce the pope refuses to grant. Into this atmosphere of distrust and need comes Thomas Cromwell, first as Wolsey’s clerk, and later his successor. Cromwell is a wholly original man: the son of a brutal blacksmith, a political genius, a briber, a charmer, a bully, a man with a delicate and deadly expertise in manipulating people and events. Ruthless in pursuit of his own interests, he is as ambitious in his wider politics as he is for himself. His reforming agenda is carried out in the grip of a self-interested parliament and a king who fluctuates between romantic passions and murderous rages. From one of our finest living writers, Wolf Hall is that very rare thing: a truly great English novel, one that explores the intersection of individual psychology and wider politics. With a vast array of characters, and richly overflowing with incident, it peels back history to show us Tudor England as a half-made society, moulding itself with great passion and suffering and courage.

  1. Hey! Love the question, I think Michelle Pfeiffer would be a wonderful match, she’s a bit gutsy and could definitely show him a thing or two! Just wondered if your competition is international being a Brit? And finally already a follower of your wonderful blog 🙂

  2. Hmm, in keeping it British, I think the present Princess Catherine Middleton would give him a good dose of reality!

  3. How about Anna Wintour….or Meryl Streep as “Anna Wintour” in The Devil Wears Prada. Politically, I’d hook him up with Chancellor Merkle

  4. Hmmm….Am gonna go with Angelina Jolie. Because Angelina! Also, a mix of Downton Abbey and Game of Thrones? I need that book like asap. I follow you on wordpress reader. Hooray. Happy reading and thanks for the giveaway!

  5. I’m rather a fan of Helen Mirren. She is a clever, talented and a ‘here for the long haul’ kind of lady.

    Already a subscriber.

  6. I would love to see Henry VIII married to Elizabeth Taylor. (I know you specified “from today’s world” but she’s only recently deceased so I hope that’s close enough…) I honestly can’t decide wether they’d be in love, in hate…or both, à la Richard Burton. She was known for both her passion and her compassion, so I’m leaning towards both. At the very least, I’d love to see what she would accomplish as queen with her Hollywood star power combined with a royal crown. What do you think?

  7. Paris Hilton……because she can she can “out wayward” Henry VIII and would turn Henry’s “murderous” rages into “suicidal” rages in around 30 seconds

  8. I’ve got to go with Lisa Vanderpump. I know she’s already married but I feel like it would work(or any of the real housewives really).

  9. I’m going to say Emma Thompson, because she would put that guy in his place pretty quickly! 🙂

What a great giveaway! I have been meaning to read this one, but I’m a bit anxious about reading the whole thing before it has to go back to the library!

  10. Considering the survival rate of his wives, I nominate any and all of the Kardashians. lol I am DYING to read this book, btw! It’s going on my Amazon Wish List.

  11. Kathy Bates was the first name that came to mind. I’m subscribed to emails through the wordpress widget elfgurl3(at)yahoo(dot)com. Thanks for participating in the hop!

  12. My first thought has been mentioned already but as a runner up I would guess that Hillary Clinton could give him a run for his money!
I’m a follower via Bloglovin as Stacy Renee if that counts!
