Morning Meandering… Birthday Weekend Check In

Sunday morning.  What is not to love?  Coffee, a good book planned for later, warm blanket and nothing on the agenda other than what I want to put out there in the universe.   I LOVE LOVE LOVE no commitment days.  They give me a chance to unwind, recharge, and prepare to hit it again.

So…. Friday was my birthday.  It was epically uneventful.  Its not that I had any big plans – I was just hoping to do something to make it memorable.  My day just got away from me.  My lunch date for that day had to cancel, my day went longer than I thought it would at work, and I arrived back home around 7:15 pm tired, and with no energy to do any of the things I was tossing around to make a memory.

It happens.

I was in a royal funk and had to remind myself that I am blessed in so many ways.  I have great relationships.  I am healthy.  I have a new job that inspires me and uses my creative energy. I can always make a memory and know I will push myself to continue to live each day to the fullest.

So.. Saturday.  I made up for it.  I went to St Paul and I ran the Valentines Run with my friends Belinda and Sheila and FROZE.  We had an amazing lunch and I stopped at Barnes and Noble on my way home and treated myself to the book club read (Patrick Ness’s A Monster Calls) as well as a few other books and a couple trinkets for my book room.  I went to Office Max ( I LOVE PAPER!) and purchased what I hope is a handy organizer as well as a few other things for my office.  I stayed in last night and watched TV and ate a sub.

Today… I am going to read.  I am going to maybe go to a movie, and I am going to cook something (not sure what) in my New Instant Pot that I super excited about.  I am going to organize a few things to make my week a little easier.  I am drinking coffee, and chilling in the recliner.  BLISS.  Really.  BLISS.

What are you doing with your Sunday?  What great read is lucky enough to spend time with you?

  1. Happy birthday! I think I mentioned it on FB…but it never hurts to say it again.

I love no commitment days…and my Sundays are often that way. I haven’t been to Barnes & Noble in a while…and it’s right around the corner. Maybe today?

I love hanging out there in the cafe, with coffee and a book or two.

    Enjoy your day!

    1. Thank you Kathy. 🙂 A couple of my friends got together and got it for me for my birthday. I have wanted one but could not justify it over the holidays. I bought the Instant Pot book yesterday and I will be browsing through that today 🙂

  2. We are deep in the book packing for the inevitable move🤞🏼that will happen sooner than later…saw the most wonderful place this week. And….besides a shower—eventually— I’m Halfway through a manuscript called “Breathing Room” by Steve Austen which is so intelligently done I am blown away. THEN I have Batman:Nightwalker from the library. Do hope it’s better than The Immortalists which I hated and returned….

  3. Please feel free to delete the above comment. I seem to have had an issue posting comments on your site…
I don’t remember when was my last no commitment weekend…
Good for you! Celebrate as long as you can. A week is pretty standard.
    Happy Belated Birthday!

  4. Happy Birthday!!

    ENJOY your Sunday!!

I made a banana bread and am now making some bread for a sandwich. I’m going to make a family favorite: Chicken Ciabiatta Sandwich with pesto as the spread, tomatoes, mozzarella, chicken, and lettuce.

    Have a wonderful week.

    HUGS!!

  5. ah, Sheila, too bad about the birthday day–but it’s nice to make a birthday weekend and you are right–NO commitments. coffee, a good book, maybe a movie, or better (and cheaper) a good NetFlix series to binge on. well, there goes the book. still–it’s your own time–make it special.

  6. Happy birthday! I like my instant pot especially for yogurt! It takes all day but its super easy and tastes better than store yogurt. I use it for oatmeal a lot too. Enjoy!

  7. Happy Belated Birthday Sheila! I didn’t do much yesterday. I worked yesterday morning and then came home and had a little laptop time, laundry, tv, and of course reading. I hope you have a good week!

  8. Happy belated birthday, Sheila! It is nice to have a low key day over the weekend, or just a day to get a few things done, whenever possible. I hope the week ahead will be wonderful. as your new year begins.

  9. Happy belated birthday! I have often worked on my birthday as a freelance, though I never did as an employee, at least I kind of choose to do it. One time years ago, I made a big fuss about having a day out one birthday and a big row with my now-husband, who thought it was unseemly over the age of ??. He capitulated and organised a trip out for me – I got a cold the day before and couldn’t go. That was The Worst.

I spent my Sunday working / running 18 miles / seeing my friend Gill for coffee / working. And doing some eating.

Hmmmm... what do you think?
