Sunday.
God bless friends and family that is for sure. This past week I was connected to a woman who lives a few miles from me who was done with the tomatoes in her garden and word came back to me that whatever was left was free for the taking. I hustled out the door with two large totes and a couple of boxes and let me just say…
it was not enough.
On my “SAVE THE TOMATOES” mission I loaded up with not only red tomatoes, but also green. Not sure what I could do with the green but always being a person who will figure it out later…. I grabbed a bunch of those too.
Ummmm…. yeah.
So basically, other than the recent trip to Wisconsin for the Mud Run I participate in every year (pics to come), I have been canning. Last night my first ever spaghetti sauce, and then this morning – 7 quarts of green tomatoes for fried green tomatoes.

We are going to a friends house this afternoon for the football game and ribs. A quiet gathering of about 6 of us which will be nice. Then tonight I plan to go for another batch of spaghetti sauce. Keep on keeping on. I love the feel of being productive and the details of caning keeps my mind nice and busy.
Books that came in this week…
Both books look wonderful.
I am connecting this post to The Caffeinated Book Reviewer for her weekly Sunday Post.
My first thought was, “fried green tomatoes!” lol You will love having those canned goods this winter!
Wow that really are a lot of tomatoes! Do you freeze the pasta sauce? Might have to give that a try next time I make some.
I think if you wait a few weeks they might get a bit more red. We got some green tomatoes from my boyfriend his parents as they ahd tomatoes in their garden and they told us to wait two weeks or so and then they would be red, we’ll see. I hope you’ll have a good week!
Yes, the movie and book of Fried Green Tomatoes came to mind! Love the photos and the jars of spaghetti sauce. Enjoy!
Holy moly that’s a load of tomatoes! You’re going to be all set for the winter, that’s for sure!
Your load of green tomatoes really is eye catching.
Last night I finished Margaret Coel lastest book. I enjoy trips to Wind River by review will be on my site sometimes this week.
Wow….I wish there were someone around here giving away green tomatoes. 🙂
They will ripen quickly. ENJOY.
Your canned tomatoes look quite yummy. I bet your spaghetti was DELISH with that sauce on it.
That is an amazing amount of tomatoes! The pasta sauce looks delicious. What’s next after tomatoes? Pumpkin butter?
What a great haul!! I’ve been wanting to start canning but I’m such a procrastinator. I love fried green tomatoes!!
I’m so impressed with all your canning. I’ve never done it myself, but my mother and grandmothers used to can and can and can. Sounds like it has been good therapy for you. Enjoy your evening with friends, Sheila and take care of yourself.
Yum-o so nice you were able to pick them up. I make my own Italian gravy as well..and fried green tomatoes..sound delicious!
Years ago I made green tomato pickles regularly and they are YUM! Yell out if you want me to dig out the recipe 🙂 Enjoy the footy and time with friends and of course happy reading!
Wow! You are amazing!
I haven’t canned in years, but one of my girlfriends and I used to spend a week putting up fruits and veggies: jams, sauces, pickles and more
I made a batch of green tomato salsa several years ago. The recipe was found on the internet. It was pretty spicy, but if that’s ok with you, then that could be an option.
You are set for the winter!
