Another wintery morning here.
Huh.
I was kind of hoping I would wake up and it would all be gone. 😛
I was going to write this morning that this time of year I love to listen to audio books, and while that is true. I realize that I listen to just as much audio now as I do the rest of the year, the only difference is I probably listen to more audio this time of year in the house. In the spring through fall I take it outside with me while I rake, mow the lawn, work in the flower beds, garden, bike, etc…. Now, I listen to it when I get home from work and I am in the kitchen planning dinner, or working on laundry, cleaning, or playing Candy Crush on Facebook. (Yes yes.. I said it… do not judge. 😛 )
I love having audio cds to take in my car as I tend to travel quite a bit year around, but when it comes to audio I can put on my IPOD or phone, I use Audible.com. I love it a the audio books are reasonable, when you first sign up your first one is free then you can choose to get one or two a month, any audio you want!
I think the first year I used Audible I was on the one credit a month plan but by year two I loved audio so much I bumped it up to two. They roll over so you dont lose them. They also have great sales throughout the year like $4.95 sales where you can choose from hundreds of audio books for that price. I stock up!
I decided to talk about audio this morning because I love to encourage people to try it. I was not an audio book listener until about 4 years ago and now I probably double my book count each year because of it. I review a lot of audio here and below listed a few of my favorites if you are looking for good audio. I know many other book loving audio listeners could add to this list:
The Help by Catherine Stockett
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
Stories I Only Tell My Friends by Rob Lowe
Into The Wild by John Krakauer
The White Queen by Philippa Gregory
The Fault In Our Stars by John Green
Will Grayson Will Grayson by John Green
Backseat Saints by Joshilyn Jackson
One Second After by William Forstchen
A Grown Up Kind Of Pretty by Joshilyn Jackson
The Last Original Wife by Dorothy Benton Frank
The Husbands Secret by Liane Moriarty
I could go on and on, but this should get you started…lol
In other crazy awesome news, just this morning I found out I won the KOBO giveaway at Alison’s Book Marks! I am so excited as I know when she received hers she loved it! I am very curious about this and will be sure to update once I have it and am using it. 😀

Great list of audios! You know I’m a total addict. Congrats on the Kobo!!!! Hope you love it!
I dont know where I would be without the audio Candice! 😀 I have three going at a time usually – one in the car, one on my phone, and one on the IPOD
Woo hoo! Congratulations on your great win!!
Thanks! 😀
I keep trying audio books but I tend to get distracted easily and then I lose track of the plot lol
I tend to do better with biographies and the like instead of plot driven audios.
I can understand that 😀 I have heard that form others as well.
I also listen to audiobooks, almost always in the house while cleaning or in the car on my way to work. I love Audible, I’m on the two a month plan, I just wish they had plans that offer 3 or 4 books a month. I go through an average of one a week.
I can go through them that fast too Amanda. I pick up audio from other sources as well to feed my need 😀
I love listening to audios – usually have at least two going – one in the car/house and one on my phone/iPod that I use while at the gym or out walking. I just signed up for an Audible account and am loving it. I’m on the 1 a month plan for now, but will probably up that to 2 a month soon, especially as my training for the 1/2 marathon (walking) kicks up in January.
From your list, I’ve only listened to A Grown-Up Kind of Pretty which I really loved – it was my first JJ book. I recently listened to the whole Stephanie Plum series, except for the first book, by Janet Evanovich – great series to do on audio – so funny and Lorelei King does a phenomenal job as narrator.
Congrats on your win…enjoy!!!
k2reader, I agree on the Janet Evanovich as a great audio! I am a very visual learner and prefer the written word but Evanovich has so much comedic timing and relief that it plays wonderfully!
Nice! I am training for a half as well!
I am thinking of upping my membership to two a month, too… I have to figure out how to do that! I am in no rush, though, because I just got an insane amount for Christmas and I am kind of worried there will be Boxing Day temptations, too…
I think just go into your account settings. 😀
I am pretending it is really hard. 🙂
I listen to everyone rave about audio and it makes me crazy…but it just does not work for me! So sad…I think the problem for me is that I really only like reading one book at a time…and audio just doesn’t feel like reading a book does for me…I guess it’s just a personal preference!
Patty dont feel bad – it doesnt work for everyone. I could not always do it either.. I thought it was just crazy. Now I love it.
You’ve got some good audio choices listed up there. I’m a multi-book audio listener too. I’ll join you in encouraging those that don’t do audio to try again. It’s an acquired “skill” and sometimes takes a few books before it clicks. And while there are heaps of fantastic audiobooks out there, there are also some books that don’t work in the format and some narrators that … ummmm… should stick to writing. And congrats on the Kobo!
Thanks Leslie. 😀
Great audible year 😀 I only started listening to audio this fall and I enjoy it
Isnt it great! Like Leslie said not all books are great on audio but when you find the good ones with awesome narration…. WOW. 😀
Congrats on winning the Kobo!
Thanks!
Perhaps I will break down and try the audible plan. Thanks for a list with which to wet my feet!
Sure! Glad to be of help. 😀
sheila, found this via a WordPress suggestion of posts for my own audio book article; i had no idea that the credits roll over each month and you don’t lose them, i think that’s a terrific idea and way to do things; best wishes on your listening 🙂
Thank you! 😀
I can’t wait to hear what you think of your new Kobo! (It will not be sent out until next week – probably Wednesday, but I’m not 100% sure). Congrats!
You and I have very similar taste in Audiobooks – as we have discussed in the past. There are actually two on your list that I haven’t read yet! Yay! I just finished my first book by Joshilyn Jackson and I’m OBSESSED, so I will have to listen to Backseat Saints and I need to check out One Second After – completely new to me!
I’ve gotten a couple of audios from the library. It’s great, only you can’t rely on the condition of the CDs : /
