Good morning. I am off early today having arranged a CRAZY err.. fun morning at the gym doing Group Power at 5:45 am. 😀
On Monday I listed the books I planned on reading this week and then… in yesterday mail came a book I had ordered:
With the movie being released on February 14th I feel like I have been missing out on something by not having read this one. Amazon says this about the book:
There were no surprises in Gatlin County.
We were pretty much the epicenter of the middle of nowhere.
At least, that’s what I thought.
Turns out, I couldn’t have been more wrong.
There was a curse.
There was a girl.
And in the end, there was a grave.Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she’s struggling to conceal her power, and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.
Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town’s oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.
In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.
I didn’t realize until it arrived that is was 563 pages. 😯 A real chunkster! Perhaps… I should have gone with audio…. 😀

I loved the audio – the narrator (can’t think of his name right now) was fantastic! I listened to the first two, but read Beautiful Chaos and still had his voice in my head reading right along with me. You will fly through the book, just be warned you might not be able to put it down! Enjoy!!
I wish I would have went audio… oh well 🙂 I like a good book on the shelf. 😀
I’m thinking of reading that too. Maybe next week. Same reason. Want to see it before the film releases. Hope it’s as awesome as it sounds. 😀
Right! The movie release pushed me to read it. There are a few others coming out as well that I need to read 😀
I would think the audio would go more slowly…except, of course, you can be doing other things while listening….
That’s right on both accounts Laurel, while longer – I can listen to it while cooking and cleaning which usually gets me through a read faster. 😀
I loved the book when I read it. I chose it as the best book I read in 2009. I even won an autographed copy. I will be seeing the movie too but I won’t be standing in line waiting. Movies aren’t as intriguing to me as the books they are based on. I’ll probably buy the DVD when it comes out though.
I love books to movies – especially the good ones… we go opening night, yes, deal with the crowds but its still fun 😀
I’ve passed Beautiful Creatures over forever, but the trailer caught my eye recently, so I might give this one a go, too.
Now is a good time to do it Andi, you should read it with me and we could review together 😀
I love the entire series – and can’t wait for the movie! And I know it looks big, but it is a quick read, I promise. 🙂
Thanks – maybe I will get a start on it tonight 😉
I’m planning on seeing the film, but am pretty adamant about reading the books first. That’s just how I roll. With it being so big, I may not see the film in theater.
I am that way too – if possible book first
Hmm, why would you get up so early if you could stay in bed a bit longer? {shakes head in bewilderment}
I don’t know the book – hope you’ll enjoy it!
Went to the class.. trying to find a happy medium in my work outs and being able to get to work on time 😉 Of course now that I am home form work… I am TIRED.
I haven’t read this one yet but I’m thinking it will be my February Audible book! 🙂
That will be a good choice!
I got the first two of the series at the Festival of Books last year, but I’ve not gotten to it yet. I’ll see the movie eventually, but being the two movies I’ve seen in theaters this year is more than I saw in theaters last year, it will be once it hits DVD.
I had your same thoights but I did pick up the audio. Ummm….I’m 58 chapters in about halfway and so bored. Its not horrible but its just a realllllllly long drawn out book. I’ve seen other reviews mention the same.
Narrator is good and so is the audio as a whole. Never read an abridged book, this might have been the right time. Lol.
