Morning Meanderings… The Occasional “Non Bookish” Perks Of Writing Reviews

Good morning.

Obviously there are a lot of perks to reviewing books.  First of all the delicious books that arrive on your doorstep and you get the pleasure to read and chat about.  And of course there is the conversation itself that generates around the book, and of course, the relationships we book bloggers build together as people who love to read and love to chat books.

Occasionally, we can be asked to review something other than books just due to something we mentioned we enjoy and I think that is kind of fun too.  In the past I have been given the occasional movie to review, at one time reader glasses, and a couple of years back… a bookshelf.  😛

In my mail yesterday, this arrived:

Telestrations is a “telephone like game”  Sketch, Pass, and Guess!  It is no secret that I love board games, and this would not be the first board game I have been sent to review.  I think when we are at the cabin in a couple of weeks with friends I will try it then.  😀

I also had a few books trickle in this week:

Yesterday we car shopped – we think we found something, Hubby is processing (its how he shops, looks… and thinks….) So we will know more on Monday but I am excited to hopefully have that over with.  😀  This morning I am going to church and then packing for my week at Camp Benedict that starts tomorrow afternoon.  I will talk more about that on Tuesday morning.

If you are a book reviewer, have there been any cool things that you have been asked to review other than books?  Have there been any not so cool things you have been asked to review?  (I remember once they asked me to talk about Ug Boots…. I told them they had no connection to books or to my life whatsoever… I couldn’t do it.)  😛

  1. That looks like a fun game!! I reviewed a chair and herbs..weird combo I know!!! Your hubby sounds like mine. It once took him over 6 months to purchase his last motorcycle!! 😀

    1. LOL – a chair???? That is kind of awesome 😀 Yes Al (hubby) takes along time to process things where I just want to get it done… I tell him we could never be on the Amazing Race together because I would want to go go go and he would want to think about it 😛 Oh – and also… I am very directionally challenged 😀

  2. Mostly my non-book review items have been movies….and that’s great, because I LOVE movies….

On Amazon Vine, we are sometimes allowed to choose various non-book or movie items…even appliances, although I’ve never picked those! If they had some computer gadgets, I would go for it.

    Enjoy your camp experience!

  3. I have taken a few things from Amazon Vine to review that have nothing to do with books like toys for my grandson. Together we have the best time trying them out and playing with them. Quality Grandma time and then I usually blog about it on a Saturday or Sunday. Plus at 4 years old he knows great stuff comes in those Amazon boxes 🙂 Toys today….books tomorrow!!

  4. Sounds like fun. Can’t wait to see what you think of it.

    Happy reading!

  5. I have had the following offered to me to review ~ movie dvds, music cds [which i love], a dress, eyeglasses, tea [yes!] but nothing closer to weird than a new kind of beverage called coffee tea! which was kinda weird now that i’m recalling it “)
and then what do i say in my review as it’s all my personal taste …;)

  6. I’m jealous about Fireproof! I just recently encountered her name, when I found out she’s from Nebraska! And now I want to read her, even though I’m too late to make it to her talk at the library a couple weeks ago, boo.

  7. I have been asked to review a bookcase, reading glasses and a book calendar. I can’t think of anything too off the wall, although sometimes I get requests to put link ads on my site from places that have no relevance at all to books. 🙂 Enjoy your time at camp!

  8. I have never been asked to review anything but books, I tell you I would not have turned down an offer to review Ug boots. 🙂
