Morning Meanderings… yet another Storm WARNING hits Minnesota (this time with lawn furniture casualties…)

Good morning. 😀

Excuse while I go grab coffee cup…. I am going to need the caffeine today.

Some people leave a trail of crumbs… I have of late, left a trail of grumbles regarding our rain.  I have grumbled on both Twitter and Facebook… and yeah, I have grumbled here.  I know some of you mentioned you would love to have the remain where you are at as your weather is warm and dry….

well I am talking EXTREME rain.  AT least every day this past 7 days, and pretty much 3-4 days a week all spring it had rained.  And not pretty watch my flowers grow rain… no it is  EXTREME “batten down the hatches she’s gonna blow” rain!

Last night the wind picked up so strongly it blew my framed pictures off the coffee table next to the open window.  Al (hubby) and I thought we heard an animal cry and I went and opened our garage overhead door (much to hubby’s amusement) so the poor thing could seek refuge if needed.

This morning I woke up and it is still raining and we are supposed to get hit with another round of storms this morning.  I understand that when we have had extreme heat, but we have not.

I took a quick walk around my squishy wet back yard this morning to see how things fared.  I had put the deck furniture away a couple of days ago so that is all fine but my yard swing did not fare so well…

This swing has been with me for 20+ years.  I know he was old, but he carried a lot of memories.  This is the swing I sat on when I got the news about my moms accident.  It is the one I rocked the boys on when they were young and the one I sat with one of my good friends was offered a promotion she was excited – and scared to take.  It has moved with us twice and sat in the yard since we moved here in 1996.

The rest of the yard was fine.  At least for this storm.  My hostas are extremely well watered.  Swimmingly even.

Now I need to get ready for work.  I am hoping this mornings storm blows by quickly and I can back to outdoor things I love like biking…rollerblading… sitting on my deck with a good book.  😀

Share with me your stories of sunshine… I miss it 😀

    1. I just read about the Duluth Minnesota flooding today Kathy… some animals died, a polar beat and a seal actually escaped their cages when the water raised that high… how insane is that?

  1. I am so sorry! Hoping maybe your hubby can fix the swing and maybe make it better than ever. They keep predicting storms for here but they keep missing us. My hubby is probably going to set the sprinkler out tonight. First time we have ever used it that there will be no kids run through the water unless by adult kids get a little crazy.

I am so glad you put the patio furniture away. That new chair needs to be protected 🙂

    1. He is so busy this time of year Lori, maybe I will save a stick or two of it and make something smaller… we did that once with our barn that I grew up with – when they tore it down they made me a bench out of the barn wood.

  2. Oh, now I feel guilty that I complained about the heat! I don’t like that kind of rain, either; soft rain, good. Stormy rain: bad!!

Destruction is never good. Poor swing.

  3. We had several weeks like that ourselves, but it’s looking like summer has finally hit in Mass. Today is an expected scorcher at 96+! The sun is shining though, the birds are hopping around the yard, and the squirrels seem to be looking for a tasty meal before the heat of the day hits. Here’s hoping you get some sun soon!

  4. That’s awful. We have lots of sunshine in Erwin Tennessee. I’s been unseasonably hot here. Not much rain at all. I miss the rain… They tell us it’s going to rain, but we don’t get anything. Glad you didn’t have to much.. 🙂

  5. Hi Sheila,

Sounds like you should be thinking of building a boat there. lol I know, not funny at all. It is either one extreme or the other. We are in a heat wave, with a heat alert warning. Very dangerous for some people with heart and breathing problems. Lets hope it all balances out so we can sit outside and enjoy a good book.

  6. We were just hit by a Category 4 typhoon and are currently riding out a tropical storm that is running up the Taiwan Strait. Today alone, the town I live in was doused with over 300mm of rain and it has probably rained over 100 days this calendar year alone. My entire life is the eradication of mold.

  7. I can’t believe the weather in your area. We need rain so badly. I hope your swing can be repaired. I love all the memories tied up in in.

  8. Oh, poor swing. I know it’s only furniture, but I totally understand how you feel. I have ‘things’ that have been with me for years and I would hate to see them harmed. They become family.

Your storms are making our news. Tom Skilling, weather guru for Chicago, keeps showing us the storm track and why we are soooo dry and you are soooo rainy. I feel like I shouldn’t be complaining about days and days of warm weather and endless sunshine, especially since that is what I long for all winter! But it’s three weeks now with only a tiny spit of rain, and the ground is cracking. My hostas are dried up and my water bill for the garden is going to be huge.

  9. here in chicago its another 96 degree day….the nice thing is the dog only wants to go out to do his business and doesnt expect a long walk! with the wind it doesn’t feel so hot an d honestly…if we are going to have SUMMER…then bring on…SUMMER! i’ll blow the sun your way!

  10. We’re expected to get severe thunderstorms in Montreal this summer. Today we have a high heat and humidity warning in effect. So sorry about your swing. It tugged my heart when you said you used to rock your boys on it. Is it fixable?

    1. I am not sure if it is fixable or not Laura. I was at work all day and now it is still gloomy out and I dont want to go look at it yet too closely. Friday I have off, I will look at it then.

  11. And I just thought it was the UK that was being hit by bad storms. We have had about 3ft of water in one day. Sorry to hear about your swing.

  12. I am so sad for you and your swing but at least you will always have your memories. We are smack in the middle of an early kill-me-know oppressive heat wave. I have no A/C installed at the house yet (way too early for me) so we will boil and the men here at work are so pampered they have turned the a/c’s on full blast and I am FREEZING when it’s 90+ degrees outside. So wasteful and ridiculous. I’m bringing a sweater tomorrow.

  13. Please send your rain here, we could really use it. Sorry about your swing. It is hard losing things that have so many memories (good or bad). The swing my father got for my mom several years ago is in really bad shape, pretty much beyond repair. She finally is ready to let it go.

  14. Sorry about your swing! Can it be repaired?
Up until 2 days ago we had rain every day for 2 weeks. Couldn’t even mow and the grass was getting high, up to your knees high. Thankfully it has slacked off and I got to mow the other day. Now it rains on and off, the sun shines and then hides.
Hopefully the rain will ease up and you can get back to your outdoorsy things. We either have to go biking really early or in the evening because even if it isn’t raining here, it’s so humid you can’t stand it.

    1. That is so hard when you can not even mow! Luckilly I caught a little break where I did manager to get ours done – but it was still a rainy day… 😀

Not sure what I will do about the swing yet…

  15. Sheila if Al can’t fix your swing then I’d say it is time for a new swing and new memories to go with it 🙂

  16. What a pity about your swing. Your weather is indeed pretty bad. We had some of that and there are promises for more this afternoon and evening. I’ll be sure to remove the garden furniture (thanks for the idea – I would have forgotten otherwise!).
