Good morning and Happy Mother’s Day!
It is a lovely day here today in Central Minnesota. I have a few commitments this morning, think hubby and I are joining some friends later for a motorcycle ride, and later yet… a road trip to hopefully pick up the chair I posted earlier this week as my hopeful Mothers Day gift (*fingers crossed!)
I did have some books enter the house this past week:
Some great reading here! AND on top are a couple of audio and I have already dug into Come Home.
Then this past Friday I went to garage sales which I have not done in probably over a year – mainly because I used to always look for books and I have no need of doing that anymore between the review books, books i purchase, and Library sales… HOWEVER, I have a friend who RAVES (” a brand new crock pot, still in the box $5! One of those buffet things I have always wanted! A set of dishes that int he store would go for hundreds of dollars, I got it for $15!) about her finds and so…. I caved… and then this happened:
This is why I can’t go to garage sales. It was a large church sale. I was minding my own business, wandering through nick nacks, shoes, blankets…. alas over to the books just to see if they had any treasures….
I love Claire Cook, had to grad that one. I read Pamela Morsi a long time ago and found her hilarious, better grab that one, I have The Help in hard cover, but what if I want one to loan out so grabbed that one, I have a copy of Mrs. Kimble, but I think it will be good when I review it so I can do a giveaway now too, Small Island – new to me, Thirteenth tale I have in hard cover, and Bel Canto I have always wanted to read – I already have, but again… what if it would make a good giveaway.
See my problem? 😯
This week should be a nice one for me, not too heavily overloaded. Now that the weather is getting nice I am getting selfish about evening meetings and commitments, I want to garden, I want to ride bike, I want to read on the deck in the new (ahem) chair, I want to be outside!!! 😀 Next weekend I will get to go to the cabin with College son. I can not wait!
Looks like you had fun! I know what you mean about garage sales. I never even used to look at the books and now it’s ridiculous. 🙂 My plans for the week are work, work, and more work. 🙂
Ugh about the work work and more work! I hope it is at least fun work 😀
I had a garage sale on Saturday last week, only three people looked at the books! I did give away about 10 ARCS. I just won’t have the space to keep them. I think I will have enough room for my TBRs when I move, there is a built in book case with six shelves in the apartment. After i saw that I didn’t pay much attention to rest of it!!!!
LOL Carole! I do giveaways for the books I have read and do not wish to keep or take them and donate them to the library or library sale. Other ideas may be a nursing home or hospital. 😀
Since I am moving to a senior retirement apartment, I will donate the rest of the ARCs to their library. I don’t want to flood them with books right away!! When they run out of shelf room, the rest will go to the library.I hadn’t thought of nursing homes and hospitals. Great idea.
Glad I could help 🙂
It looks like you received your copy of The Four Ms. Bradwells…hope you enjoy it.
I haven’t read that Claire Cook book….must check it out! I also want Wife 22…..
Today, my daughter is taking me to brunch at a restaurant we love.
Spent yesterday with my son and his wife.
Have a great day…and hope you get the chair!
I did receive it – thank you Laurel 😀
I think we are going for the chair later today, looks like a motorcycle ride this afternoon. 😀
Happy Mother’s Day!! Have a wonderful day. I’m thinking I may have to check out some garage sales lol.
Garage sales are dangerous! 😯 LOL 😀
I hope you get that wonderful gift. My hints here for one just like fell pretty flat, lol They seem to think I would fall getting in or out, tee hee!! Have a great Mother’s Day!!
My hints were missed as well Lori, first of all he thought I bought it for myself.. then when I said he needed to get it he said “oh”. 😛
We will see…..
Sheila have a good Mother’s Day-how was the ride? I hope you get that chair-I want that chair.
Last weeks ride went really well Esme, this one yesterday thought kicked my hiney…. I dont know why but I was hurting by the time I was done. I have to get out there more I think 😀
Hey! I have Small Island on my shelf! Haven’t read it yet, though. Let’s see who gets to it first!
Do you? OOH a challenge… lets talk more about this Ryan, I love reading with other people 😀
Happy Mother’s Day, Sheila!
Garage sales are dangerous for me too, so I try to avoid the temptation. Fingers crossed that you get your dream chair! Looks awesome! 🙂
Thanks…. I want to sit in that chair and READ! 😀
Happy Mother’s Day, Sheila! I think those books saw you and called your name because they needed a new home.
LOL… I pick up books like I pick up stray pets Kathy 😀
That’s plenty of books to keep you going! I try not to buy books as I have enough here to keep me going for quite some time… but I still managed to buy a couple when I was down in London last week (my excuse being that I’d forgotten to take one with me!).
I shouldn’t buy books for the exact reason on you just mentioned… 😀 My excuse for buying books is I want to contribute to the written word 😛
You sound like me at book sales! My husband has practically forbidden me to attend any until I clear some space on the shelves. 🙂 I hope your Mother’s Day is wonderful – and you get to read some Insurgent!
Thanks Carrie! had a great Mothers Day, but did not even get to pick up Insurgent due to a motorcycle ride all afternoon, hanging with hubby and going to pick up my chair…. (SSQQQUUEEE!) and then…. two hours assembling the chair 😛
Oh well… tomorrow is another day 😀
Oooo, so many books. I have The Thirteenth Tale on my shelves to read someday 🙂
I need to read it too Kim, I have heard it is good. 😀
I had to avoid thrift stores for the very same reason, I have some piles that are getting a little ridiculous!
So many books… without homes… what are we to do? 😀
Happy Mother’s Day to you!! What some great books that you acquired during the sale!! I wouldn’t be able to resist those either!! I unfortunately have been sick since Friday night so this weekend was a bit of a drag. It rained all day yesterday and my son had his Junior-Senior Prom. But today was a lot nicer and I was able to spend some time outside reading for a bit!!
Have a great week!
Staci I am so sorry you were feeling sick! Glad you are on the up swing! Books… what a crazy hobby…. LOL 😀
Oh, cheap books are far too dangerous! It’s so easy to fall into the (delightful) trap of “just one more…just one more”. 🙂
EXACTLY! Books at cheep prices and as I shared, most of them I have… none only do I overdose myself on books… but I but them for friends to make them book addicted too! I think… I am a dealer! LOL
Yes, I do see the problem, which is why the library is my favourite friend…
LOL! I hear you 😀
You’re lucky. I went to a large community-wide yard sale and couldn’t find many books! I did manage to find 2. But, your selections look great. I’ve been wanting to read Bel Canto. I hope you like it.
