Good morning! 😀
As you know I have been planning to go to BEA however, my roommate of the past two years will not be attending this year and I have been roommate searching. For a few days there I was even considering not attending, which really bothered me as it is something I look forward to all year.
Over the past week a few people came forward with possible opportunities I was looking into. Then thanks to Twitter, I discovered Gail also did not have a roommate this year, hers was also not attending. I had met Gail last year at the BBC. We started chatting and emailing and as of yesterday morning we are booked! 😀
Seriously – just typing those words is such a relief!
SO lat night I finished the BEA registration that had started and stopped over the past few weeks. That felt good too! 😀
The final piece was to book a flight and I had been watching Orbitz and knew there were plenty to choose from. Last night I made three attempts to book a flight and each time after I filled everything out and hit submit…
it would come up with a message that said sometimes seats get booked quickly and that one in so longer available. 😯
This happened two more times and I logged on to my credit card account to see what was happening there. Sure enough, every time I tried to book a flight my card put that into a reserve hold on those dollars. At that point I stopped thinking my credit card company is going to lock up the card thinking it is fraud… three attempts for flights.
So anyway…. that is frustrating.
I will try again in a few days, or if I have time this afternoon I may call Orbitz and just let them know what is happening and find out how do I actually find a flight that exists.
Anyhoo.. thats what is happening here. I can still bask in the fact that I am for sure going to BEA. I am excited and now planning out what I want to do there.
Hope your Tuesday is lovely. I have book club here tonight and I am excited for what is sure to be an interesting review of The 19th Wife. (Review, discussion, and food we had with the review will all be posted tomorrow)
Oh, and those participating in the Monday meme and the egg hunt – remember to qualify you must also comment on those blogs that had the eggs. I am seeing entrants who have not done that part. 😀

I missed BEA/BBC last year, but so looking forward to going this year! It was great meeting you the year before! 🙂
Thanks Jennifer – you too 🙂 I love connecting with all of you 😀
I’m going to BEA for the first time this year! So excited! 🙂
Oh you should be excited! 😀 Once I went I could not believe such a place existed! Its like heaven on earth!
I can’t wait to see you again!
You too Kathy! Getting to see and catch up with people is such a great part of BEA!
Hello! I won’t be at BEA this year as it is the first time in two years I have not had a book released. Moving across the country definitely impacted my writing schedule. So have a wonderful time and I look forward to hearing all about it! Re: airlines, I’ve found that Orbitz does NOT offer the best prices. I use it only to figure out what flight I want to go on, then I book it directly to the airline’s website. Most have a “lowest price guarantee” now, so they have the same deals, and in fact they are often available on the airline websites after Orbitz has sold out because the airlines only release a certain number to be sold on other sites. Also try Priceline. It’s really good at getting deals.
Thansk for that advice, I was really frustrated as I thought it would be an easy process.
Good luck getting that flight….everything else seems to be falling into place….
I think this will all work out for you.
Thanks Laurel. I know it will but I didnt have time to mess with it. Today I worked all day came home cooked and cleaned and had eighteen girls over for Book Club tonight. Its not 9:30 pm and I am wiped out so Orbitz… will ahve to wait another day. D
Please explain what BEA and BBC are? I’m new and confused
Sure Cheryl, BEA is Book Expo America and happens in New York the end of May or early June… you can look it up bu Googling it and you will be astounded (I was). The Javitz center holds an amazing three days show where authors and publishers gather and promote their upcoming releases. You can even pick up more than a few of the awesome books coming out later this fall or early next year. Thebooks are free, you just need to get them home.
BBC is the Book Blogger Convention and that is a one day program helping us book bloggers connect with publishing companies. These are like training sessions, and tips, to better blogging, better reviews. 😀
I hope everything works out for your flight! I’ll be enjoying the experience vicariously and via Armchair BEA. 🙂
Some day Alyce… you must go 😀
I think those sites only get a few seats. Have you tried Hotwire, Priceline, or the airline directly? I’ve found in past flights that getting it through the airline directly has been as cheap or cheaper than the Orbitz type sites.
Good luck getting your flight. BEA just seems to expensive and I suspect my introverted self would be too unhappy in a crowded hall like that.
Hi Sarah, thanks… am hearing that about flights now. I will probably start working on it again on Thursday when life slows down to a simmer 😀
I used to love working BEA. That might be the only thing I miss about working in the publishing industry. Well, that and the free books.
OOH – working it… sounds like fun! 😀
Try Priceline or Expedia, too; those are great resources for flights.
I decided not to go to BEA this year, so I will be Armchair BEA-ing it! I look forward to your thoughts during the event, and I can’t wait to see the load of books you pick up!
Thanks, I will try that. 🙂 I will miss seeing you however I always think armchair BEA sounds like a lot of fun too 🙂
I should think about attending BEA this year… I live just 16 miles outside NYC! 🙂 I don’t even know when it is (yikes)
Mari are you kidding me?????? If I lived that close I would be there every year. Seriously you should go. You make such great connections! Oh and June 4-7. 😀
I think you will have a blast and Gail will be a great roommate! Hope you get your flight booked!
I will Staci – thanks 🙂
I’ll be doing the Armchair BEA thing again too. Good luck on your flights. I find the airline sites are usually the best and are the easiest to use, but I use sites like Expedia to check prices.
Reagan always did our bookings in the past… she made it look easy 😀
Sheila I am so happy you found someone. I managed to get some roomies so it will make the trip barable now. I can’t believe I didn’t see you in 2010. Looking forward to finally meeting you this year 🙂
YES! I am looking forward to it too! 😀
Glad you are still going. You would really have regretted it if you hadn’t!
You just need to go one of these years Angie and take all that stress off of me… roommate searching, someone to hang with… 😀
