Good morning and Happy Tuesday!
About a year ago my cousin told me about My Fitness Pal. It is a free on line site where you can plug in “all about you” and then daily, type in what you have eaten and drank, and calculates it for you. It’s actually pretty cool when I use it. It even tracks exercise and then gives you more calories to eat (woo hoo!) when you work out.
I have dabbled with this site off and on the last year and just recently trying to do it daily. And of course, I have a story.
Last week I had a crazy busy day (shocked, I know…) and after working out and living life at the end of the day I still had around 500 calories yet to use. I was reading around 9 pm and was craving chocolate. The only chocolate in the house was some Ghiradelli chocolate chips I had recently used in banana bread (oh yeah… that is awesome!). There was not many left, maybe a cup worth and I sat down with a cup of coffee and those chips. Mmmmmmm….
The next morning I thought I should plug those chocolate chips into my fitness pal for my previous days calculations. I was guessing it to be around 300 calories.
Nope.
Any guesses?
………………..
…………………
……………….
647 calories.
I blew it on chocolate chips. 😯
I will not be doing that again.
SO again, my plug for My Fitness Pal, holds. Sometimes it tells you things yo do not really want to know… but on the flip of that… it is good to know the damage one can do while “innocently” snacking.
Ok.. .on to funner (yes. my word) things.
Remember last weeks Library Sale? And I offered up for you to make a choice of what book to read for me and then I would go from there and read them and pass them to you? I chose one winner on Sunday and now here are the other two and the books you chose for me to read:
#92 Judith at Leeswammes’s Blog
#96: Barbara from Freedom Acres chose for me to read:
YAY to the winners, please email me your addresses to: journeythroughbooks@gmail.com and once I read these books I will pass them on to you! 😀
Have a great day everyone… it is windy and gloomy here which is a bummer, but I am at work all day, the gym, and then a meeting tonight so I guess better today than a day I have off 😀
Looking forward to your thoughts on them! 🙂
I am too 😀
My Fitness Pal sounds like a great idea. I kind of ate a bunch of semisweet chocolate chips left over from baking cookies over the holidays. I was craving chocolate and there they were. I will not be plugging that into My Fitness Pal because I don’t want to know…:)
I have Mudbound on my Kindle but haven’t read it yet. I have heard it is an excellent book club book. I’ve also heard good things about Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter. I hope you enjoy them both!
Thanks Christina, I first heard aout Mudbound at book club, it sounded wonderful but we had many great choices and it did not win the vote. I was so excited when I found it at the book sale!
Oh my, those chocolate chips were a killer! Congratulations to the winners – I think they chose some great books for you to read.
Live and learn Kathy….LOL
I liked Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter, but I loved Mudbound. Enjoy your week!
Thanks Helen 🙂
I train for triathlons and marathons and a fitness coach once gave me great dietary advice: “You are in training. As long as you aren’t eating processed food, forget about diets.”
I don’t eat any processed food. I haven’t thought about what I eat since.
That is great advice Ryan!
Lol – shocking!!!
I use LoseIt.com for that same thing ’cause I always “estimate” my calories far off actual count.
Sitting down with coffee and chocolate chips sounds outrageously delicious, though. Mmmmm
It was sooooo good…. just not good for me. 😉
I loved both of those books! Enjoy!
I had to laugh about the food/exercise calculator. I joined a site called Spark People that does the same kind of thing.
I must admit I don’t go there anymore, though…lazy, perhaps?
Or maybe I don’t want to know….lol
But I do keep a food diary with calories….
LOL…. sometimes we just do not want to know Laurel 😀
Whoopee! I’ve been dying to read Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter for ages! I’m emailing my address right away. Thanks, Sheila.
YAY Barbara!!!!
Ah, MyFitnessPal doesn’t lie, does it? 🙂 I’m also using it and I like it that you can enter your exercise calories and it then allows you to eat more – that keeps me moving for sure.
Thanks for drawing me as a winner!! But… I’ve already read the book (I was so pleased to see you got this book that I just wanted to say: read it, never thought about the giveaway). So, the only action you need to take is… read the book! Please do, it’s wonderful.
It doesn’t lie… it’s cruel! 😀
Thanks Judith – I will read it!
I’ve definitely fallen to the chocolate chips before – although usually encased in a large buttermilk pancake and drenched in real maple syrup. That is my biggest temptation, so you’d think I’d keep those ingredients out of the house for days when I’m not strong enough to resist.
I haven’t heard of the fitness pal, but I have used the livestrong site to count calories consumed & burned. It is enlightening.
MMMM… in pancakes! 😉
Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter was one of those books I fell in love with right away. I can’t way to see what you think of it.
Thanks Ryan! 😀
I just started using MyFitnessPal today. I was using an app on my phone, but it didn’t give me my calories back. I love this! It will definitely keep me in line. I ate a roll today as a snack and I felt so guilty when I logged it in because the calories and carbs were like WHOA!
Anyway, thanks for blogging about it or I wouldn’t have found it.
I am so glad Laura… it is shocking what we think is “no big deal” and it is! I think what surprises me the most is how little protein our bodies need a day unless we work out – then it sky rockets!
Oooh! Somewhow, I missed Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter in your stacks! I listened to the audio (narrated by Kevin Kenerly) and of course I’ve something to say about it! LOL, Don’t worry, no uber-long comment from me this time (I have a spoiler-free review up on my blog if you’re interested :-)); But the bottom line is that I loved it!
I’m eager to see what you have to say about Mudbound. I listened to When She Woke (narrated by Heather Corrigan) earlier this year and it was my first Hilary Jordan book. I didn’t dislike it; but I wasn’t as impressed with it as others have been; but that might due to its highly derivative plot… Anyway, I would be open to more Hilary Jordan, so I’ll look forward to your review 🙂
I have yet to get to When She Woke (also in the TBR)… I am glad to hear crooked letter was awesome in audio!
And comment freely, I love to hear from you 🙂
