My third check in for my reading project of Jane Eyre. Now three weeks in, my goal being 70 pages a week, I have just crossed over the 210 page line. This report was due on the blog this past Sunday and I don’t know how I forgot… but yeah. I forgot.
Pages 141 – 210 reveals Jane and Rochester staring to get to know one another. There is the fire in his bedroom (I am still confused about that one) and Jane rushes in and saves his life which he is overly grateful…. and then the next day…
gone. (Please don’t let him be bipolar….. I dealt with that in Wuthering Heights with Kathryn and I was about to kill her myself in the end of that one!)
Then we move on to the fact that Rochester likes to party PARTY and he is gone for what is it, like two three weeks, hanging with friends about ten miles away which in this time, is like being in another country! When he does return, he brings the party with him and then all those people proceed to stay at his house for the next two weeks… (so odd… I would go nuts having company that long!)
Of course, now enters Miss Ingram. Some hot mama from another family who despite her loveliness, her lovely singing voice,tallness, gorgeous hair, AND her talent at a piano… still remains single.
I instantly do not like her.
Next to Imgram (I can not recall her first name right now… Jane looks plain. Plain Jane. I mean, seriously, Jane’s hair will never do what Imgram’s does….
To conclude my recap here – I am now beyond an odd fortune teller part where if I am getting that right… is Mt Rochester (and what sort of insecurity is that???? Spying on his guests!) and if it wasn’t him.. then I misunderstood that whole part.
I leave you with this…. I am into the book. I have another recap due on Sunday – pager 210 – 280. I did not have time today to put up a rating but know I would not put it down now…. I am invested and now I have to know what will happen with the snarly lipped Imgram and the shy plain Jane.
Book Journey 
I was so mad at Rochester after that fortune teller scene…probably my least favorite part of the book.
I am still confused by it Jill.. .it was Rochester right? And why do that? To see what people wanted to know about? And why was Miss Imgrim kind of upset or weirded when she left after her telling… will I ever know?
I obviously need to reread this one! I’ve forgotten these kinds of details…sigh. Glad you’re into it now.
I am it is so odd to me that I am. I am using a Harper Collins newer version of the book but I dont think it has been tweaked at all….

I am not sure what changed this time Carrie other than the fact that I was going to read it no matter WHAT. It suddenly flowed for me…

I absolutely adore the gypsy fortune-telling scene!!! One of my favorites of the whole book.
Amanda then you are going to have to explain it to me… why did he do it? What was the point? 😛
I agree… “insecure” is a great way to describe him there!!! I love how smoothly Jane deals with him, though, putting him his place. And I love how he responds to her scolding, too. The more she pushes him away, the more intrigued he is. Lots to learn there!!!!!!! 🙂

I think Laura because of who he is and the power he has he is surrounded by a lot of “Yes” people. I think at this point Jane is a breath of fresh air… someone with a backbone…

its a book that slowly draws you in, but once you are in, you are in. Its one of my favourites.

Wow, it all sounds so bizarre and strange when you lay it out plot point by plot point. I forgot all about the fortune teller scene, that was so weird! I don’t think Rochester is bipolar, just troubled. And I am SO with you on Catherine. Hated her in Wuthering Heights.
LOL – he is still in the “bugging me” category…. from what many say – he does get better 😉
I’ve been meaning to reread Jane Eyre – it’s been many years since I read it and I don’t remember many details about it, but I do remember that I really enjoyed it.

I agree that Rochester’s actions are rather confusing for most of the book. It will make more sense soon 🙂 He’s a strange man, but with reason. And it’s interesting that in rereading again, knowing what happens, things he says have a lot more foreshadowing than you know to begin with.
Is it because he is a twin Crystal? A good one and a bad one? LOL 😀

Oh, I wish I could read this for the first time again! It’s never the same after you know what’s going on. I do think I’m going to re-read it some time soon. I tried to in December, but I went on vacation with the boyfriend and barely got into it.
Also, there really is no reason to worry about Mr. Rochester. The reasons for his moods will be revealed in time. He’s one of my favorite men in literature.
