Morning Meanderings…. Woo Hoo! My Book Club Is In A Book!

Good morning!  I am running out the door to treat myself to a Carribou Coffee this morning so only have a minute to sqquueeee  and share that my book club has been mentioned in a book!

Last spring I was contacted by the author of this book because she had seen a post I had written about our book club and seen that we like to bring food that has to do with the book we are reading.  That is what the Book Club Cook Book is all about.  She had a list of books she wanted to be in the book and wanted book clubs to take a couple of those reads, read them and make food surrounding the book and then share with her (Judy Gelman) the review and the food we had.

Thats normally not the way out book club rolls, we vote on a book as a group and then read it – but I asked the group is some of us were willing to do a couple of bonus reads…. an additional book to our normal stream and they said yes.  We read and reviewed Olive Kitteridge and Little Bee.  We also read and reviewed Cutting For Stone for this, but we were not chosen for that read (although…. I have to say the food we served with Cutting For Stone was amazing!)

So there it is.  That was fun and exciting!

I am off to work and a work out later and then back home later to go through this book!  😀

  1. Congrats! What fun for your book club, but this doesn’t surprise me, as I think the way your book club cooks for the books you’re reading is very unique and something to spotlight.

  2. How exciting! Congratulations!

Our local bookstore holds a monthly Dinner & a Book event, where a local chef creates and serves a dinner specific to the book read. It sounds like wonderful fun but is a bit beyond my budget.

Our book group just serves light appetizers and dessert, so we’ve never tried this. But I attend another book group with 2 close friends, and we often go out to dinner before the discussion and try to pick something appropriate (Chinese when we read China Run and Indian when we read Thrity Umrigar’s The Space Between Us).

I may have to check out this book – it combines two of my favorite interests – reading and cooking!

  3. That is wonderful! I will have to pick up a copy of the book.

Incidentally, my afternoon book group will be reading Cutting For Stone next month. What foods did you serve to go with that book?

    1. Christina as you read through the book you will see references to Ethiopian food. I made the Dora Wat and it was delicious! I linked my review up above in the post, if you go to it I have the food pictured and tell a little about what we did. 😀

  4. Cutting for Stone wasn’t picked? That was one of my all time favorite food/book event! The food we had that night was amazing! 🙂 I’m very surprised
