Morning Meanderings… Where Art Thou ______________?

Good morning!  😀

See what happens when I get a bonus day off… I come in late… taking my own sweet time, padding around my house doing things I usually do not have time for in the mornings I work like… reading all my emails, standing on my deck with COFFEE CUP and enjoying the fall morning, and then finally… sitting down to write my morning meanderings.

So I am at the grocery store… hmmm… probably three times since the weekend, and if that makes you shudder… well, it does me too.  I do not like grocery shopping (thus the reason I am in there almost every other day) and with it just being hubby and I at home… I usually do not need much.

However these past few days as I walk through the aisles I know I am forgetting something and it is a necessity item.  I find myself walking through the toothpaste and bathroom items aisle hoping something will catch my memory… and then I am in the cleaning supplies…. is it dish soap?  Laundry soap?  No… well stocked in both…

Garbage bags?  Toilet paper?  Shampoo?  No…. no…. and no….

Then… it is when I get up in the morning (errr…. the last two days) that I remember.  It is…

COFFEE FILTERS

Yup.  Me.  Without coffee filters.  It is pretty tragic really.

I have been using a paper napkin … probably not the best thing to do is run hot water and coffee through the blue flowered napkin die and the drink it… but… eh…. whats a girl going to do?  😛

I have today off from work because I had too many hours accumulated the last two weeks so I will be taking today off and next Tuesday is well.  This is good as I have a few house projects to catch up on, my lawn, and I am working on setting up my spread sheet for Banned Books Week which I am having some fun with.  😀  If you are interested in participating you can check it out here…  there are still some banned books I would love to see reviewed during the week like:

The Grapes of Wrath, John Steinbeck

To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee

Charlotte’s Web, EB White

Song of Solomon, Toni Morrison

Native Son, Richard Wright

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Frank L. Baum

Howard’s End, EM Forster

A Room with a View , EM Forster

Bonfire of the Vanities, Thomas Wolfe

Rebecca, Daphne du Maurier

The War of the Worlds, HG Wells

The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas, Gertrude Stein

All The Harry Potter Books

The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn

Crank by Ellen Hopkins

Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Enrenreich

Twilight by Stephanie Meyer

Just to name a few.  😉

Have a great day – I will be back this afternoon with a review of a book that BLEW ME AWAY.  I borrowed it from the library on audio but know I must own it…

  1. Oh, I hate when that happens! I have used paper towels as filters…the thick kind that you find in hotels, because that’s usually where I am without filters.

I still can’t get over Huckleberry Finn on that banned book list. Is Tom Sawyer on it, too? I read both of these books when I was eight. The first books I checked out of the public library in our small village…a whole other story.

I like the idea of standing on a deck in the fall morning sipping coffee. Thanks for the image, even though I can’t do that. No deck, and my patio is a mess left from when the gardeners blew leaves (all over my patio, of course!).

    1. Tow Sawyer is on it…boys behaving badly….. 😀 Apparently that sets a bad example…. yet I am thinking I had to monitor shows my boys watched on tv like The Simpsons and Family Guy…. uh yeah…bring on Huck and Finn! 😛

  2. A girls gotta have her coffee! I had no idea that Rebecca was a banned book. It is one of my favorites.

I was going to jump on the bandwagon as I know I have a copy of To Kill a Mockingbird that needs to be read. Then I realized I just packed up all of my books for a move. I will definitely put together a review of Rebecca. (read it before blogging)

    1. I am hoping Rebecca will be one I get to read next week… I have it on the shelf and have never read it. Next week I am only reading banned books 😀

Oh and sweet that you are going to review Rebecca, I hope you feel out the banned books form (linked above) so I can link to your review.

  3. I’ve used napkins before too. Now I have a new coffeemaker with one of those permanent filters. I had never used one before but I’m loving it. I just dump the grounds each morning in my garden, rinse it out and pop it back in. I never have to worry about remembering coffee filters at the grocery store – although last week I forgot coffee, which was much worse! That required an immediate trip to the store in the morning.

  4. Okay Initially I thought I was cranky because my husband is out of town and the smoke detector went off at 1 am-2nd time in a week that has happened-then I spoke to my husband in transit and the airlines did not check his bags he was quite cranky-5 am, but now I find out that Charlotte’s Web is a banned book-it is only 8:15-now I am furious-that is one of my all time favourite books-if I ever had a girl “Charlotte” was always one of my choices from the book.

….and the Wizard of Oz??????? who are these people

    Have a great day.

    1. LOL Esme… I know right? I havent looked up why Charlotte’s Web is on the list but I will…. may even have to read it next week… I am sure I have it around here somewhere… although reading it again will produce tears…. broke my heart…. really.

  5. I have done that before with the paper towels! Now I have a French Press for my coffee, so I don’t need any more filters. I love that it’s low tech. The only drawback though is that it only makes a few cups at a time, and they’re very strong, so it’s not so great for when we have company expecting a large pot of coffee to be on.

Speaking of lack of coffee…I am caffeineless this morning because I’ve had too much in the past week. I am so dragging right now.

  6. Lists, lists, lists! When I go grocery shopping, I always get the same thing (lunch stuff for work). However, for those times where I need something else – toothpaste, shampoo, etc – or I’m planning on making a special meal, I definitely need a list.

I work in a bookshop and we’ve got a few things planned for Banned Books Week. As far as blogging goes, I’ve decided to go back and re-read some of my childhood favorites (oh hello, Roald Dahl) and pick up a few new (to me) books from authors I love (Hemingway, Vonnegut).

    1. Shirley, I did a quick search, and I probably could have guessed this just from why other books were banned:

In 2006, some parents in a Kansas school district decided that talking animals are blasphemous and unnatural; passages about the spider dying were also criticized as being “inappropriate subject matter for a children’s book.”

According to the parent group at the heart of the issue, ‘humans are the highest level of God’s creation and are the only creatures that can communicate vocally. Showing lower life forms with human abilities is sacrilegious and disrespectful to God.’

  7. I still can’t believe all the books on the Banned Books list. It drives me batty. I’ve been talking non stop at work about the shame of it all. Considering I work with a lot of non readers, they think I’m pretty nerdy but I don’t care!!

As for the no coffee filters thing, that’s why I ended up going to a Keurig. I use the re-useable pod and make my coffee each morning. I love it!! I don’t think I could ever go back to a normal coffee pot. Hopefully you remember to pick some up next time your at the store 🙂
