Morning Meanderings and Random Ramblings of an injured book junkie

Good morning.  At some point I will post a couple positive bike pics…. maybe yet this morning… I don’t really know what I am doing now.  The scars are starting to dry up which means…. itchy.  Itch all night and nothing I can do..

This morning I am anxiously anticipating the weird shower of not getting the cast wet – yet not taking so much time that I am late to work.

Worse than the shower is the shaving….. one handed shaving…. frightening!

The road rash under my nose has now dried into a crispy ugly half mustache scab which I can feel every time I talk.

Tomorrow morning I leave for 5 days to Chicago and I am looking forward to…. and dreading the “being on the go” at the same time.  (more on this tomorrow)

I want to read but seem to always be tired.

Tonight is book club  – and I am helping out with VBS registration… hoping I will be able to both somewhat successfully.

I have reviews to write, and an audio interview yet that was planned to go up Saturday…. but yeah, instead I dove into the pavement…. always the life of the party….LOL

Ok so lets talk about my dog Elmo for a minute as this makes me smile (yes, even with the crispy mustache)…   Elmo is 15 years old and a shih-tsu (after all these years I shill can not spell it and do not have time to look it up… so know this about me… sometimes… words elude me.)  😛

Anyway – in Elmo’s old age… he has taken to sleeping with his tongue hanging out – which does nothing for my heart as I keep thinking perhaps he has passed…  ANYWAY he is also afraid of the camera (I think he thinks it will steal his soul), so I can never catch a picture of him with the tongue thing… its like he knows I am coming….

YET the other day, there he was…. sleeping in the bed… tongue out.  I grabbed the camera and got him!  (Of course immediately after he got up surprised and left the room… (possibly soulless)

Elmo..... his morning look

LOL….

Here are my current statistics:

Biking:  172 miles

Rollerblading:  18 miles

Broken bones:  1

One more random pics and then I have to go:

Hospital pic that just hit Facebook.... got to love my team!

Got to go!  Hopefully a review will be up later…. hopefully.  My one fingered typing takes a wee bit longer to get across what I am trying to say.  😀

  1. Aww Elmo is soo cute. We have a shih-tzu here named Oreo that looks part Gizmo from Gremlins to Ewok from Star Wars and acts like part cat, part goat (whatever she sees drop to the floor), watch dog, etc. Hope your arm heals fast and you feel better too.

  2. Geez, I hope you fee better soon. I also have a shih tzu–a 4 year-old named Madalyne (and a 12 year-old peekapoo named Cassie. I don’t want to hurt her feelings by not mentioning here…even though she doesn’t know I’m posting this comment and can’t read anyway.)

I don’t think there is a correct spelling of shih tzu. I go with “shih tzu”, but there’s shih-tzu, shihtzu, shih tsu, shihtzu. Who knows?

  3. Sheila, I forgot to ask what condition your bike is in after the accident. Does it look as mauled as you do? Sorry, I mean does it still look like a bike or does it resemble a modern art sculpture? 😀 I’m sure your trip to Chicago is going to be “interesting” with all your injuries. Hope it goes well.

    1. HI Barbara, I popped the tire (first time ever!) and knocked the gears off my bike. The guys who were helping me fixed it but I took it to the shop on Monday anyway for a full check up. I want it to be safe for my next ride. 🙂

It looks good though and it I rolled it to the bike rack to take it home and it rolled good too. I love that bike…

  4. Could you please e-mail me some of your energy? I had a dog who would never let me take her photo. That was so frustrating! Every single time she would turn her head away! Feel better….

  5. Elmo is a sweetie. I’m surprised you can even work at the computer. You sporting types are tough cookies. Someday that photo of you will make you, or your grandchildren, laaaaugh. 🙂

  6. I can’t believe you’re able to post with one hand! You are one great blogger! Hope you get through all of this without too much more discomfort….Yikes, in all my years, I haven’t yet broken a bone, but then again, I haven’t done all those things you’ve done.

I’ve been pretty careful. Knock on wood!

  7. Sheila, are you flying or driving-if you are flying take a pillow-on the flight for your arm-You may experience swelling given you were casted recently and you will want to be able to rest it comfortably and elevate. (I have experience on this one).

    Elmo looks so cozy.

  8. Sheila, I’ve been on a bit of a break from the computer and came back to find you messed up! Take care and let yourself be tired a bit – your body telling you to rest. Healing is hard work. Be kind to you and I think you’ll be on the road to recovery. Sorry about the itching. Not much to be done there. Again, body healing.

  9. I adore the picture of Almo with his little tongue hanging out! So sweet. Give in to the tiredness, your body is telling you it needs to heal. Give it time!

Have a safe trip to Chicago!

  10. I was so sorry to hear about your accident, and I am glad you are starting to heal. I’ve had a few broken bones over the years and it’s not easy, keep your chin up… you can do it! Have fun in Chicago!

  11. That Elmo is one adorable dog!

I have a 17-year-old cat who sleeps really hard. He gives me dirty looks when I wake him up to make sure he is still with us, but I feed him so he tolerates me.

  12. I shoot so many photos of Maisie, but most of them turn out blurry or she’s not even in the frame. Getting a good one is rare! :p

I think the itchiness also means it’s healing. So, as annoying as it is, it’s probably a good sign.

  13. Hope you feel better soon! I had to laugh at your facebook photos….the bike graveyard. LOL LOL
when I did the 3day60mile walk for Breast Cancer, they also trucked our suitcaes to a new camp each night and we had to find them in a “graveyard” and then find our tent. There were hundreds of them…and they were all pink.

  14. On an average day, you type more with one hand than I do with two! I’m amazed that you still manage to get all these posts out AND comment on people’s comments. Are you super-Sheila, or something?

  15. Adorable dog. I’m sure that his soul is still in tact – at least pieces of it. One picture cannot possible steal the entire thing!

I’m sorry to hear about your injury. But it’s great to hear that you aren’t letting it keep you down. I would probably totally be a sucker about it and use it as an excuse to lay in bed and do absolutely nothing.

    You rock!
