Good morning. This is an early one today as Wendy and I are on the road at 6:30 am to get to our bike ride – The Tour Of Lakes by 7:30 am starting time. 30 or 60 miles…. we have not decided yet.
Yesterday afternoon I sadly had to return many (MANY) library books unread. *sigh*. I had renewed them on-line twice and then finally it came down to who was I kidding… as much as I wanted to read them… it wasn’t going to happen in the time frame I needed to read them, and really…. has it come to this? Book hording? Really Sheila? Holding books for my own selfish reasons making it impossible for others to read them…
What am I? Two?
SO back they went. As my habit would go – I had two to pick up that I had on hold. Of course I am not so cured that I left them behind… oh no, I hauled home the copy of Discovery Of Witches I have been so curious about and the audio of Every Last One by Anna Quindlin. What? Did you expect me to be cured overnight? Please! This will take YEARS of practice…. 😛

Don’t feel bad, I am guilty of doing the same thing with my library books-and I am a librarian. I am surrounded by tempting library books all day long so whenever I do return a stack, I inevitably take more home.
Do you think you’ll ever check out those books again and finish them? Usually I don’t. I ended up returning my copy of A Discovery of Witches without finishing it and I dread the thought of starting all over since it is so long.
Hopefully they will not start a reality TV show for library book hoarders…
I hope too Christina – there are a couple in there I am really interested in – A Thousand Sisters being one of them.
Ah, yes, the library deadlines…and I know that my problem (and maybe yours?) is wanting to read so many books that I take home far more than I can possibly read in the time allotted.
Sigh…but then, we know how long it takes to fill one of our requests…so it continues.
Good luck with your new ones. I loved Every Last One.
I know… what was I thinking? 😛
Sometimes when I drop off my books I only let myself use the book drop outside so that I CAN’T pick out more books. The deadline gets to me especially if I know I want to read something but have a lot of other things going on. I have a book due Monday that I still have more than half of to read. I am enjoying it, but I don’t know if I am going to get it finished or not!
I reserve them on line Jill so they are already waiting for me inside….. 😯
LOL
Good call on A Discovery of Witches. Now go read it! 😀
Oh I will – I remember you had a pretty awesoem review on this one Jill 😀
so what happens with me a lot is that i renew the books twice, return them unread, and then go buy them so i can read them at will
could be why i have at least 1000 books in my house!
hope your bike ride goes well…i envy you..i’m not at the stage in my life where i can do that!
Oh I hear you Diana – I am guilty of that too!
i think i would apply if there was a reality show for book hoarders!!
Wouldn’t that be a great show to watch? “Those people” might make us feel really good about ourselves Diana 😀
Think that happens to lots of us! Back they go, then by the time I get home, I’m on the computer getting back in the queue for them. Quite the cycle!
Exactly Julie…. what a sickness 😀
I used to be really bad with impromptu book pick-ups and book hoarding. 2 dresser drawers were filled with library books that were often returned unread.
I fell off the wagon recently and picked up 4 impromptus this week which will probably again be returned unread. *sigh*
I have piles of giveaway wins and a room full of boxes of books that my 6 yr-old calls the “book room.”
I won A DISCOVERY OF WITCHES. And I own EVERY LAST ONE which I started. I was enjoying it but haven’t picked it up for a while so I’ll probably have to start over b/c I don’t remember what happened thus far.
AH…. I have a book room too 😀
Sadly I have had to do this also. I am always so sad when the books go back to the library unread. I tell myself I can always check them out again another day. I loved Every Last One. I read the book though. Very good!
I started the audio this morning and am liking it so far Beth 🙂
I liked A Discovery of Witches. I hope you do get a chance to read it. “Overdue books” is the major reason that I buy most of the books I read. I like being able to read them according to my schedule even if it might be years from now. (And it might be.)
I really enjoyed EVERY LAST ONE (print edition) – I hope the audio is great!
I am liking it so far Dawn 🙂
I always feel so guilty when I return library books unread! :p
I do too Hannah…. its like I held them captive for a time for really no reason at all…
Yes! It’s not a good feeling. But I also don’t think it’s something we should necessarily feel guilty about, as long as we’re returning them when they’re due …
