Good morning! 😀
It’s raining here in Central Minnesota this morning, supposed to the entire weekend – and for once I really do not care. Sure I had hoped to dive into the hosta garden today and love on that, but there is always next weekend. Today I really should focus on packing and looking for the NOOK charger, and making a list of things not to forget before I haul myself to Minneapolis tomorrow late afternoon, to catch an early flight Monday morning to New York.
BUT TODAY – is not about that…. today… I have a couple of fun things to share. 😛
First, recently WordPress made an upgrade that allows us to add our Google Calendar to our blog. I didn’t even know how SSQQQUUUEEEE that was until I really thought about it. Here is part of beauty of that… I have three email addresses. My home/personal one, my work one, and a book one. The book one is the one I use to communicate with you, and with authors and publishers, and it is the one that the book requests go to. Since it is not my default email – many times book tours I have committed to, honestly can be forgotten as I do not always have time to connect with the book emails every day. HOWEVER – I do seem to find time to connect with this blog every day. SO – by adding the calendar to my blog – I can put the upcoming tours on it for me, and you as readers of this blog to peek to see upcoming events too… such as:
- Wordshaker group review date
- If I am attending a particular author event
- If I am participating in a meme, read a thon, etc….
I don’t know – I am just excited. So you can find it in the future by clicking the new Events tab at the top of this blog…. but for today you can also link to it here.
If you want to know how to do this yourself – feel free to check that out here: WordPress and Google Calendar.
Next – and this one is for Alyce’s Saturday Snapshot – which is a fun thing to do every Saturday! A couple of weeks ago out town had a Positive Charge event. Over a three day period anyone in town could come to this particular photographer who was heading this and write on a piece of poster board what was so awesome about our town. Once you made a poster, you had your picture taken. Over 1,000 people/groups participated. These posters will be hung all over town, and some made into billboards. It was actually exciting to see the turn out of our community for this event…

That’s fun!
it was fun Hannah…. the photographer is actually right next to the office I work in so I was able to see all the coming and goings of people… it was fun to see what they wrote…. they are all on Facebook under Positive Charge. 😀
Oh, very cool! Are you going to be on a billboard? 😀
I have no idea…. there were a lot of awesome ones about the lakes and fishing, great family life, etc…. I would think those would take precedence…. of course – maybe I will show up at the library …LOL
Sheila, I love your picture. Promoting the library is always a good thing. I want to know though, are you modeling one of the Superbowl costumes? I mean, the lights are out, so…..? LOL
LOL – NO!!! Ha ha! I am not in the Super Bowl costume…. 😛
I think that is our local Kicksters, it was Cindy Clough who designed the costumes.
I didn’t know that about Google calendars, but I did know that we can now embed Google docs, which I’ve been having fun with. I love the photos!
I haven’t tried the docs yet Kathy – I will have to think what I could use that for….. 😀
I may try that for the next Wordshaker read…..
Sucks about the rain, however we are just getting over a week of rain here, and are having a beautiful week! NY may be warm this week, because in Philly it will be in the high 80’s so check the weather before you pack.
have a lovely time at BEA 🙂
I am so glad to hear that New York will be warm 😀 I am packing in that direction anyway….LOL 😀
Those photos were all so neat! Of course I love the message on yours – and had no idea about the Super Bowl costumes.
I dont think I knew that myself until a day or two before the Super Bowl. I have known Cindy for years and thought that had to pretty exciting for her. YAY Brainerd! LOL
That is such a neat idea! I wish my town did something like that, my sign would say we have the best used bookstore ever. 🙂 I didn’t know you were into bikes Sheila! What kind of bike do you have?
I have a Specialized. It is my baby 😀 I do a lot of biking this time of year. Coming back from BEA i have a three rides that following weekend – Friday – 60 mile, Saturday 60 mile, and Sunday a 30. The weekend after that is the MS 150 and that is 150 miles over a two day period – SO EXCITED!!!
Oh wow! Specialized are great bikes. Sounds like you have a lot of fun rides!
Wow, what fun to promote a town. Creative and wonderful snapshots.
I like that a lot as I am all about community 😀

Great posters and photos of others….thanks for sharing, and also for visiting my Saturday Snapshot today.
Thanks Laurel – it was a lot of fun! 😀 We could write anything we wanted about our community!
You are awesome, Sheila! I had no idea that we could put a Google calendar on our blog (something that obviously has been available on Blogger all along). Not until you brought it up here did I think to check if we could do it on Blogger. How cool! I thank you for helping to make my blogging life just that much more simple!
Have a safe trip to New York tomorrow. You are leaving tomorrow, right?
LOL – I didn’t know until I received the email Michelle of how to do it step by step…. what a relief this is to be able to have everything in one place. My blog…. my precious…..LOL 😛
Oh and yes, I leave tomorrow late afternoon from the cities, Reagan and I fly out Monday morning. It’s on my calendar 😀
I had no idea they were doing that. So fun!
Isnt that a cool idea Angie? I would not have known either if Redhouse Media was not right next door to my office. 😀
What a neat idea!! I might see if my town would like to do something like this!!
What a great way to promote good community huh Faith? I love that!
That’s a great way to promote your town. I’d probably do one about our library too. I think ours is top-notch!
Here’s my snapshot: http://myreadersblock.blogspot.com/2011/05/saturday-snapshot-may-21.html
It was awesoem Bev – over 1,000 people had good things to say about our community…. love that!
That’s fun. Your poster’s the BEST!
Thanks 😀

Thanks Elizabeth 😀
Fun post, Sheila. Great pics too. I didn’t know about the SB costumes – that’s really cool!
That is pretty cool huh Mary? YAY Brainerd!
What a great idea, love your shots. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Irene 😀
What a terrific project! Thanks for sharing the photos.
Every one in a while this little town on mine does something right 😀
Somehow I missed that we could put the calendar on WP blogs… but mine is such a mess I’d have to separate out personal and book stuff to do it.
Positive Charge is a great idea. I wish my town would do stuff like that.
I think it is new Leslie…. and yeah. I did actually create one just for book stuff…I am hopeful it will help me keep track of reviews and events. *fingers crossed*
What a great idea for a community event! Love your poster.
