Morning Meanderings… I am only taking one book to BEA…. HELP!

Good Morning!

*finally*

I woke up at 5:15 am this morning when my hubby got up to go to work.  After this many years I usually do not wake up anymore when he leaves but this morning I did, let the dogs out, let the dogs in… and decided that is WAY TOO EARLY to start my day and went back to bed.

Next thing I knew it was 7:45 am.

I never sleep that late.

Maybe my body knows that as of 4:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon… I am on VACATION!!!

Yup…. VACATION!

For the next 8 days I am a free agent….

LOL…

well… I have a plan…

I am going to BEA.

Yup.  I leave Sunday late afternoon for the cities where I will meet my roommate for the duration of this event, Reagan (Miss Remmers Reviews).  Early (EARLY) Monday morning we will board a plane…. destination…. New York where we will hopefully see some of you, lots of authors, events, and oh yeah books.

Originally I had said I was only taking my NOOK.  I received this lovely little item from hubby for Christmas and I have barely used it.  I wanted it for trips so I would not lug my usual 8+ books (different genres for different moods… you never know….).  ANd the NOOK is going…. “Snookie” will be all charged up and ready to go, but one book…. ONE BOOK…

come on…

it’s tradition.  😛

So this morning I narrowed it down to 4 books and thought you could help me choose that book that will get the honorary spot in my carry on.  Each one is one I have been wanting to read and each one has sat waiting and waiting on me as I flitted to other reads, snubbing my nose at these patiently waiting books.

I read a review for True Murder at Amy Reads last year and thought it sounded amazing.  I immediately purchased it and then… found no time for it…. shelved it.

City of Bones was RAVED about by Amy P in my book club.  She read… her hubby Chad read it.  Her daughter Emily read it.  LOVED it and they have read the entire series now.  I bought the first book on her recommendation (as you see above that was a LONG time ago)…. set it out to read it… no time… shelved it.

Once Upon A Time There Was You by Elizabeth Berg is a library capture for my personal challenge to read everything Berg has written in 2011.

Stay was a hot item on the blogs a couple of weeks ago…. everyone was reading it… everyone was raving about it…. I grabbed it from my library and now as the time to return it ticks away it sits on a tall pile of other disgruntled library books that all feel their time could have been spent more wisely in the hands of someone who was actually going to read them.  *gulp*

So there are the choices.  I would love to hear which one you think should earn the coveted spot and trip to New York with me.  😛

(As for my day… wow… you would not believe how long it took me to write this post between…. dogs out, dogs in…. COFFEE making, oh – dogs want out again…. I stare at the sky – it’s going to be nice today, oh I made oatmeal, dogs in, Elmo breathing funny (he is old), I watch Elmo for a while, get ready in case we have to run to the Animal hospital down the road, pick out books to decide on for this post, take picture, edit picture on Picnic, write an email….. LOL)

  1. Hard choice! I couldn’t take just one! :–) I know there will be lots of books at BEA, but until I get there, I need backup books just in case… travel delays, hate the first book, whatever. I vote for two! LOL

  2. I’m having the same dilemma! It feels strange to be packing and only carrying one book, even if I’ll have my Nook as an option that has a bunch of books I want to read on it. I’m also grabbing some magazines, which I can ditch in NYC if I need room on the way back for books (!).

    1. If I take more books I will ignore the NOOK (I know me so well…lol) I have to get used to using it…. of course… now I need to decide what should be on the NOOK… I am sure everything I originally signed up for has long expired….. 😳

  3. Hi my Gardens of Time friend! I love anything by Berg but I have to say the I heard Stay was awesome so it gets my vote. See you on the game!

  4. hi there! my pick is Elizabeth Berg. am going to dinner with her tonight so I will tell her she is in the running:) Hope to see you at BEA! B

  5. I haven’t read any of them but I think I’d vote City of Bones. Have fun next week. It sounds like it will be a blast!

  6. Hey Sheila! Hope you have a safe and fun, fun trip. Maybe I will start planning and saving for next year. 🙂
I would be uncomfortable taking a library book. And it might seem silly but I try to minimize packing and weight so I would choose the smallest of the other three. If you don’t care about the weight my real choice is City of Bones…I’ll be curious how you like it.

    1. OOH that would be awesome Martha! 😀
I have thought about that with the library books but have taken them before on trips. I am curious about City Of Bones too…by description I would pass, but by description I would have passed on Hunger Games too and that would have been a mistake 😀

      Thanks for the vote! 😀

  7. Take the Berg book. Her stuff is easy reading. I myself have just put it on hold at my library. 😀

Uh, you really should tell Elizabeth Berg about your Berg Challenge!

    1. LOL – I wanted to but she is a hard woman to track! She does not email or an agent to connect with that I could find. I do have a post office place to mail something and really should 😛

  8. Have fun in NYC! Of course I’m totally jealous, but am trying to deal with it gracefully. 😉

I vote for True Murder. It looks like something I probably wouldn’t read, but it caught my eye so now I’m curious about it.

My blogging time sounds very similar to yours (lots of distractions, especially the dog wanting to go in and out).

  9. I’m trying to make myself pack only one book to take to BEA, too, but I’ve got no Nook (or any similar device for that matter). The key for me is not to have a total moronic lapse of brain cells and ship all of the bookish plunder back to my house without saving myself a book or two for my (immediately following) train trip to Boston. I’m trying to pack lighter this year in general, so this weekend I’m actually considering not even taking my laptop with me to NYC, either. Looking at my schedule, I’m not sure when I’d even make time for it! Does that make me a bad blogger? LOL.

I vote for Stay. I haven’t read it yet, but from previous experience I know that Deb Caletti is a safe bet! 🙂

    1. Megan – I hear you…. I just worked out my schedule and I am like… holy smokes…. dont let anyone tell me this is a vacation… no, its more like the amazing race…LOL 😛

I can not imagine going without my laptop… but I do hear you…. when will I have time? 😛

  10. I’d take the Berg book. I just picked that one up for myself. 🙂

Have a great trip. I’ll be following along virtually from my computer.
